Investigation Duo Series PrequelBuried secrets can be deadly. Becky Morgan has a life most women would envy until a car accident lands her in the hospital. She insists she’s fine, but it quickly becomes clear she’s changed. She’s forgetful, paranoid, short-tempered. Her husband wants to write off her change in personality to the IVF hormones she’s taking in an attempt to get pregnant. Becky’s … pregnant.
Becky’s best friend, Jules Dalton, is a gorgeous, single woman, with a habit of sabotaging relationships. When Jules loses the man who could have been “the one,” she confronts the realization that being adopted at birth is contributing to her trust issues. She’s obsessed with finding out why she was given up and turns to DNA testing in hopes her matches will lead to her birth parents.
As Jules dives into her DNA results, Becky’s life soon becomes one she doesn’t recognize. Those closest to her are accusing her of things she simply can’t explain or remember. She’s terrified of losing everything: her career, her marriage, and her dream of becoming a mother.
Desperate to put the pieces of her shattered life back together, Becky needs her best friend more than ever. What she doesn’t realize is that Jules knows something that could explain everything away.
Becky has a dark past she’s unaware of. A darkness that’s coming for her.
It could also get her killed.

This was my first book by this author and I look forward to reading more by her. This book sucked me right in immediately and was quite a page-turner, although it did have its slow or confusing spots. I just kept reading though, and lost a fair amount of sleep, finishing it quickly! I love a good thriller, and the IVF and DNA aspects of the story enhanced my interest. No spoilers, but the book was satisfying overall, although I needed to suspend reality in a few places. I recommend this book if you like thrillers in general. I received an arc of this book, but these opinions are my own.
I’m so excited to have found this great new author. This novel took me by surprise. I absolutely loved it and highly recommend it. The author has several twists and turns that I didn’t see coming, and that final scene was amazing.
Cannot wait for anything else this author writes. Amazing!
Where The Truth Hides by Liane Carmen is probably one of the best debut novels I’ve read. It kept me interested and totally entertained. I couldn’t lay it down and go to sleep. I was compelled to find out how it ended and boy was it a great ending!
This book has it all. She takes you through IVF treatment for conceiving a child, a mom with dementia and DNA research to name a few. There are several facets to the story and all of them are interesting. The DNA side of the story was particularly interesting. I found her story line plausible and easy to follow. I was constantly trying to figure out what was happening in the background. I just knew it was something but, I couldn’t put my finger on it.
If you love a good story with a lot going on, likeabe characters, learning a little along the way, you will love this book. It was interesting, informative and just plain fun to read.
I received a copy of this book from the publisher for a fair and honest review.
The book was amazing. At first it was slow paced. The author was slowly bulding the story. And then it started.
I couldn’t stop reading it, because I wanted to know the end. And have to admit I didn’t expect it. I had a different end in my mind, I was sure I found out what the twist is. But no! The end was unimaginable. I never expected twist like that.
Really recommend the book!
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
I had not read anything by this author until this book. It was pretty fast moving. It was easy to read and had some twists. I learned a lot about IVF that I had not known before.
This is the first book in the Investigation Duo Series, and a debut novel by Liane Carmen. Impressive! This book is a GEM! Becky and Brian’s story is well written, and captivating. The storyline is intriguing, suspenseful, and emotional, with a well-built plot, filled with mystery, and twists and turns. Impossible to put it down! The supporting characters are interesting. The ending is great! I liked Becky, her husband Brian, and her best friend Jules, and I can’t wait for their next adventure! Kendra Murray did a wonderful job with the narration. She has a beautiful voice. I enjoyed it, and I highly recommend it. Looking forward to listening to The Dark Inheritance, the next book in the series! If you like Thriller/Romantic Suspense, this one is definitely for you!
I did not want to put this book down. Or even finish it. It was that good. The author has created a tightly woven suspense that leaves the reader paranoid about what is going to happen next. And who is doing it? And why?
Is it Becky herself? Her husband? Or one of her friends – one who is not really a friend?
I usually manage to figure out what is going on before I get to the end of a mystery novel but Where The Truth Lies had me stumped. And the ending was just brilliant. Completely plausible and it ties in so well with the story.
I cannot wait to read more from this author.
Wow. Wow. Wow!!!! This book was absolutely AMAZING!!! I literally could not put it down and totally binge read the entire book in one sitting. The mysteriousness kept me glued to the pages. My thoughts as I read the entire book were literally, “Why is this happening? Was someone in their house or is she paranoid? Jules, who is your birth mother? I have to know! Oh my gosh, did that just happen? What?! No way!” *turns to my husband sitting next to me* “Honey, this book is amazing!” The characters were just awesome and so realistic. Becky, our protagonist, is real and so very down to earth. Jules is the best friend we all want and I just adored her. Bryan was such a kind, considerate husband.
Then, there are the educational, very real life topics of IVF, adoption, and Alzheimer’s that really gives the reader a personal and up close realization of how each of these can impact a family and what people go through. I learned so much about the difficult process of IVF that I never knew before, got a glimpse of how someone might feel about their birth family when they are adopted, and the chapters written from the point of view of Becky’s mother showed me what people with Alzheimer’s deal with. The author obviously either did some very incredible research and/or has personal experiences with these topics.
All throughout, this book made me laugh out loud, cry, and feel so many emotions. I could certainly see this develop into an addicting book series and it would make a fantastic movie or television series. It has all the right suspense and cliffhangers to leave me wanting more and more and more.
Liane Carmen is an excellent, truly professional writer, and I can’t wait to see what her future books bring! You can be certain I will be first in line to buy the next one! May God bless this author and all of her writing endeavors!
