What a great book. Very suspenseful and fast paced.
I wasn’t able to put this book down, the pages didn’t turn fast enough. This -ish is heavy. I wish there was more romance. But it wouldn’t make sense if there was. I just wanted more. Cassie leaves you wanting more.
What to say about this book. It took me a while to get into this book. I almost gave up on it, so glad I kept going. The book is well written and the first half for me was a bit to much, very slow read, I kept going though and then bam! It’s like a switch happened and your heart rate is up and your mind is all over the place trying to figure it all out. Well done.
This is the very first suspense I have ever read. I tend to stay in my comfort zone but decided to give this author a try. Boy am I glad I did. What an incredible, nail-biting, crazy ride I went on with this story. The author had me captivated and guessing (wrong might I add) the entire time and then left me with a book-hangover for days to come. For a debut author, her words are wise and polished beyond her years. I will be one-clicking all of Cassie’s future novels from here on out.
I almost never read 3rd person stories. Mostly because I connect with stories when I can place myself as a part of the scene, an actor in that world. I’m not going to lie, in the beginning, I struggled to get into this story for that reason. But by chapter three there was a shift. The way Cassie Sharp’s prose was written worked some kind of magic over my brain, reeling me in and keeping me entranced. Unable to put it down because I needed to know what was going to happen next.
I can count on one hand how many times an author has pulled that off. And I really think it’s a unique gift, only held by a few, for an author to have such a firm grasp on their writing style to accomplish reaching readers that are unaccustomed to or put off by that style.
The fact that this is a debut work, speaks volumes of her talent and what we can expect to see from her in the future.
As an avid page-flipper, when something snags a memory, and I wonder if that lines up with previous information, building clues to solve the mystery, I will flip back, find the other clue, compare, and develop theories. I did that multiple times throughout this book, and never once was disappointed.
The plot is solid, ever-changing, and keeps you guessing to the very end. There is a meticulous attention to detail that only serves to illustrate the heart put into it, from the first page to the very last.
This story, filled with such unique, troubled characters, grabs you and doesn’t let go. Each character morphs throughout the tale, becoming so much more complex and interesting. The growth, the quirks, the detail, all lend to an extraordinary depth that brings the characters and the world to life on the page.
The plot of Where the Shadow Lies is filled with many twists and turns. The prose is beautifully constructed, filled with beautiful life lessons and words of wisdom. If you haven’t had the chance, read this one. You won’t regret it. I highly, highly recommend it.
