Talk about unlucky sevens. An hour ago, seventeen-year-old, seven months pregnant Novalee Nation was heading for California with her boyfriend. Now she finds herself stranded at a Wal-Mart in Sequoyah, Oklahoma, with just $7.77 in change. But Novalee is about to discover hidden treasures in this small Southwest town–a group of down-to-earth, deeply caring people willing to help a homeless, … jobless girl living secretly in a Wal-Mart. From Bible-thumping blue-haired Sister Thelma Husband to eccentric librarian Forney Hull who loves Novalee more than she loves herself, they are about to take her–and you, too–on a moving, funny, and unforgettable journey to . . . Where the Heart Is.

Read this after meeting the late Billie Letts at the Maui Writers Conference years ago where we were both instructors. She was such a wonderful person, I simply had to read what she had written and I was not disappointed. Well written with engaging characters. Highly recommended.
I loved this book about Novalee Nation who is abandoned in Sequoyah, Oklahoma. She is pregnant and hides out in the local Walmart until her baby arrives and is delivered by the local librarian, Forney
Hull. With the help of an oddball assortment of people, Novalee raises her baby and makes a life for herself. She is surprised to find herself …
Where The Heart Is by Billie Letts
OK, so I am really late to the show with reading this book. It has sat on my TBR pile for a long time. I picked it up while trying to rock my little one to sleep. Let me just say I was hooked. This is a great book! It had me hooked almost immediately.
I think it is a relatable story. Everyone knows someone …
I wanted to read this till the end.
Seven years in the life of a down on her luck girl, pregnant and alone, in a Walmart. Friends are the family you choose, and this book is full of family. And life is full of twists and turns, both good and bad.
This is one of those books I read after seeing the movie a thousand times. And even though, the book was just as good, if not a little better. The only big difference I remember was it was 7’s she was afraid of, and not 5’s. I so need to read another book by Billie Letts –Alice Bello is the author or Hate Him XOXO and Holding onto Hope.
Absolutely beautifully written!!!
A story you want see what happens to Novalee after she was abandoned in a walmart parking lot pregnant. This story shows the menaing of where the heart is.
Very unique and characters you can feel!
This book is so different from many I have read. Love everyone of the characters in it and this was a fun and easy book to read. Used it for our book club and they loved it.
Great story of overcoming your circumstances and finding your happiness.
Where the Heart Is has always been one of those movies that I will always watch when it’s on TV. I actually didn’t know it was based on a book until my library’s summer reading program had us read a book off of Oprah’s Book Club and I saw it on the list. What a shame that I went so many years watching the movie and not reading the book, because it …
