So in late 1969, when handsome Chase Andrews is found dead, the locals immediately suspect Kya Clark, the so-called Marsh Girl. But Kya is not what they say. Sensitive and intelligent, she has survived for years alone in the marsh that she calls home, finding friends in the gulls and lessons in the sand. Then the time comes when she yearns to be touched and loved. When two young men from town become intrigued by her wild beauty, Kya opens herself to a new life–until the unthinkable happens.
Where the Crawdads Sing is at once an exquisite ode to the natural world, a heartbreaking coming-of-age story, and a surprising tale of possible murder. Owens reminds us that we are forever shaped by the children we once were, and that we are all subject to the beautiful and violent secrets that nature keeps.

Read this for book club; one of the best we read. Wonderful characters and descriptions of swamp where main character lives.
This is simply a great book!
INCREDIBLE
This book appealed to every reason I read: great language, wonderful characters, intriguing story, and satisfying conclusion.
loved This book and highly recommend
I loved the way the book was written, both in the third person and as a narrative. It had wonderful descriptive prose that helped the reader “see” what it was like or may have looked like in the North Carolina swamps and life for the people who chose to live and hide there. It was interesting enough so that I did more research online. The mystery within the book was interesting and kept you hanging on, and the ending reveal was quite eye-opening. But mostly, the writing style was excellent. I highly recommend this wonderful story of a little girl left to grow up as a woman mostly on her own, but with the help of a few beloved friends.
Loved this book! read it in 2 days. It did start out kind of slow but due to recommendations from others I kept reading, it was well worth it!
I’m not a good enough reviewer to properly review this book.

My friends have it all over me regarding reviews of this book, so I’ll let them speak for themselves. What a great way to finish off 2018!
Now I’m going to go ugly cry.
I loved this book, loved the story of the little girl born into poverty and left to fend for herself in the marshes of North Carolina. The story of her survival was inspirational and I didn’t want to put the book down!
This is one of my new Southern favorites.
I would recommend this book, it left an impression on me.
I’m a voracious reader and having read thousands of books in my lifetime this is probably in the top three. It’s different, it’s brave, it’s practically ferocious. I highly recommend this read if you want to reward yourself with a novel you will always remember.
Enjoyable but presented an interesting point of view. Life from the other side of the coin.
Wow to spend a lifetime alone
In wonderfully descriptive language Delia Owens tells a tale of first love, growing up under very difficult circumstances, being an outcast and an overcomer, and being accused of a horrific crime. It was certainly a page turner for me.
I loved this book.
This was a facinating book that combined a murder mystery with a survival story and a love story. It was a real page turner. I recommend it as a great book club read.
Terrific writing so descriptive the novel draws you in. Great storyline.
Book Club choice. To be discussed in February. I think the discussion
will be a good one! Great character development and informative
biology lessons.
Best book I’ve read in a long time. A young girl is left alone, with no one to help her. Thank God for an old black man and his wife who help her. The town people, including the preachers wife, just calls her “dirty”, and tells her own daughter to stay away from her. A boy, friend of her brothers, teachers her to read, and she educates herself. An inspiration.
