So in late 1969, when handsome Chase Andrews is found dead, the locals immediately suspect Kya Clark, the so-called Marsh Girl. But Kya is not what they say. Sensitive and intelligent, she has survived for years alone in the marsh that she calls home, finding friends in the gulls and lessons in the sand. Then the time comes when she yearns to be touched and loved. When two young men from town become intrigued by her wild beauty, Kya opens herself to a new life–until the unthinkable happens.
Where the Crawdads Sing is at once an exquisite ode to the natural world, a heartbreaking coming-of-age story, and a surprising tale of possible murder. Owens reminds us that we are forever shaped by the children we once were, and that we are all subject to the beautiful and violent secrets that nature keeps.

could not put this book down. read it twice because it was marvelous.
Great read.
Right at the top of my ” best book ever”. Could not put it down and didn’t want it to end.
I couldn’t put this book down!
Great read. A family’s story that is unfortunately not that uncommon.
I loved everything about the book, especially the aughor’s magnificent use of the language. The book is beautifully written, and her ability to paint pictures with her descriptions make the reader feel they are part of the story. The story itself is both heartbreaking and inspirational. The twist at the end is one I never saw coming! Great read!
Main character who is out of the box. Who is made to feel less than. Who suffers bullying, ridicule and loss of innocence yet triumphs inspite of it all
I enjoyed this book from the minute I started reading. I haven’t read anything that I enjoyed more in a long time. I will read more by this author. I recommend it for all ages.
This is one of the best books that I have read. “The Great Alone” is also in this group.
I loved this book. It has mystery, coming of age, romance, beautiful nature imagery and much more. Great read!!
Sad and tragic story. I did not care for the narrator on Audible. Interesting read, but not my favorite story.
Great book for book clubs.
The Clark family lives in the Marsh, and live a very different life than most of us are accustomed. In some ways they reminded me of the family in The Glass Castle. Soon into the book a body is found in the Marsh. I thought from the title that it would be sappy so I hesitated to read it, but I’m happy I followed a friend’s advice and started it.
I highly recommend it to other book clubs (and have done so). Every member of our book club gave it high praises. Great read!
This book had me guessing and will stay with me for quite some time. Great read
Loved this book. Couldn’t put it down. Highly recommend.
I LOvED this book!!
Thoroughly enjoyed this book. Haven’t read this author before, but wil definitely search for more of her books. I did not see the ending coming.
Tragic but inviting, a story of solitude, abandonment, abuse and love. The ability and strength of one very young girl to survive, overcome, and find peace with her life is inspiring.
Lyrical but not a “feel good” book. I had nightmares the night I finished this book. Yes, I wish I had skipped this bestseller.
Mysterious and enchanting
