So in late 1969, when handsome Chase Andrews is found dead, the locals immediately suspect Kya Clark, the so-called Marsh Girl. But Kya is not what they say. Sensitive and intelligent, she has survived for years alone in the marsh that she calls home, finding friends in the gulls and lessons in the sand. Then the time comes when she yearns to be touched and loved. When two young men from town become intrigued by her wild beauty, Kya opens herself to a new life–until the unthinkable happens.
Where the Crawdads Sing is at once an exquisite ode to the natural world, a heartbreaking coming-of-age story, and a surprising tale of possible murder. Owens reminds us that we are forever shaped by the children we once were, and that we are all subject to the beautiful and violent secrets that nature keeps.

This book was recommended by Reese Witherspoon book club & a winner! I’m sure it’s being made into a movie soon. Written by a scientist with abundant knowledge of swamps, engrossing read.
Wonderful read.
This is the story of Kya aka the marsh girl, Kya is a very clever and innocent girl that has been abandoned by all the people she loved since she was a child and along her life, she also had to grow with a violent father.
I really enjoyed seeing the world and discovering feelings and love through Kya’s eyes and experiences.
At the same time, it was hard to read about how she was mistreated by people and how she isolated herself and learned to distrust almost everyone.
Because Kya was an outcast, when the golden boy of town appeared dead, people thought she committed a murder that may or may not have happened and submitted her to trial.
On the other hand I loved the poems.
This is definitely a must read…
This book was so beautifully written that it felt like I was actually there, surrounded by nature, wildlife and water. I didn’t want the story to end and it was one of those books that will stay with me for a long time! Congratulations to the author for this 5 star book! I will be looking for more books to read by her.
One of the best books ever! Loved it!!!
My three touchstones for a good read are: Makes me laugh, makes me cry, and makes me think… Where the Crawdads Sing made me do all three! You meet, , the main character at the age of six and follow her journey as she’s left alone to raise herself in the swampy marsh area off the shores of North Carolina. She is creative, resourceful and most of all, a survivor. I loved Kya and her story. You will too!
I just finished “Where the Crawdad’s Sing” by Delia Owens last night. I just checked it out from the library on Saturday, and wish I could have devoured it in one sitting. I was really impressed with her writing style. Her life as a wildlife scientist show through in her detailed descriptions of the feathers and shells that Kya collected. This book really hit me hard with Kya’s situation of a young child left abandoned in very sparse circumstances. How she survived was a miracle, how she thrived and overcame the situation seems somehow spiritual. Loved this book and am looking and watching for her next one. Thank you Ms. Owens for this lovely story.
A sad, but probably true to life, situation that shows how reiliant a girl can be.
Beautifully descriptive and wonderfully written.
Loved this book. Great story. Couldn’t put the book down. Didn’t want it to end.
Read in a day!! Love it!! One of my favorite books!
Really like this book a lot. Will recommend to my book group.

Loved this book!
This is one of the best books I’ve read in my recent reading. I enjoyed the coming of age story with the character having so many trials and finding so much grit to meet those challenges. The authors ability to use her language skills to describe both characters and the environment was compelling. I plan to buy it, recommend it to everyone I know, convince my book club to read it, and read it again!
Where the Crawdads Sing, words cannot say enough about this wonderful book. With all the hype about it I was skeptical. I was so wrong and am so glad I read it. The ending was unbelievable! The writer made me feel that I was living in that town and knew that lonely child and was with her through all of her growing up. If you haven’t read it please do, you won’t regret it!
What a delightful story this author tells. Murder, intrigue, romance all play an integral part. But even more so is the amazing journey of young Kya. From little girl to artist and author, Kya’s struggles are ones we can all identify with in some way – rejection, abandonment, and heart-break. She found an inner strength through nature and the beauty of the world around her. It’s such an encouraging book, I hope you’ll enjoy it as much as I did.
The best book I’ve read in a long time! Loved it.
I thought this book must have taken a lot of research as the characters were so well developed. I enjoyed it and was pleased with the romance that found itself back on track.
This was the best book that I have read in a long time. Beautifully written, wonderful story and made me want to recommend it to everyone ( which I rarely do because everyone has their own opinion on what is good). I didn’t want this book to end.
Beautifully written story.
