So in late 1969, when handsome Chase Andrews is found dead, the locals immediately suspect Kya Clark, the so-called Marsh Girl. But Kya is not what they say. Sensitive and intelligent, she has survived for years alone in the marsh that she calls home, finding friends in the gulls and lessons in the sand. Then the time comes when she yearns to be touched and loved. When two young men from town become intrigued by her wild beauty, Kya opens herself to a new life–until the unthinkable happens.
Where the Crawdads Sing is at once an exquisite ode to the natural world, a heartbreaking coming-of-age story, and a surprising tale of possible murder. Owens reminds us that we are forever shaped by the children we once were, and that we are all subject to the beautiful and violent secrets that nature keeps.

Excellent book. Well written and provided an atmosphere of the deep south as well as the poverty that can go along with this area. I would recommend this book to all.
This book was awesome, I could not put it down. It was sad, yet beautiful at the sametime.
Unusual story, surprise ending, gorgeous writing. Descriptions of marshes, swamps and ocean were so vivid I could smell the salt air! My favorite book (so far) of 2019.
Excellent! Don’t have the words to describe it that somebody else hasn’t already written. It is a must read.
Oh my goodness. Wow…just wow. What an incredible novel. I felt so deeply for Kya. Ostracized at a young age, cast aside by the adults who should’ve protected her, only to be cared for by a boy just a little older than her. I don’t want to say too much, because I don’t want to give any of it away. Just read this book.
This was my favorite novel of 2018. I absolutely loved it,
I loved the intricasies of language and the insights of natural phenomena.
Owens plotting carries the reader smoothly and draws them in without pushing or pulling the twists. One of my top reads, ever.
Wonderful!! The experience I had reading this book is why I read. Without even considering the plot and characters, I was captivated by the sense of awe and wisdom conferred by the natural world of the marsh. Then Kya, the Marsh Girl, sheds so much light on the dark underbelly of humanity, yet still allows for hope. She lived “I am a Rock” (Simon and Garfunkel) – listen to it with her in mind after you finish the book. The plotting of the mystery is deft and the reveal is exquisite. Wonderful!!
One of the best new books I have read recently.
Oh my….loved this book, I could not put it down, I could barely work during the day I could not wait to get home and curl up with it. Watching Kya the main character develop, I was cheering her on and wished sometime I could just hug her. What an amazing story. You must read this.Where the Crawdads Sing

Beautiful prose, unique story, wonderful read. A book that for weeks after you’ve finished. I didn’t want this book to end so soon.
the writer is so detailed about the settings for the story, you almost can feel the humidity, hear the insects and taste the salt in the air. mesmerizing main character development…loved it!
This book was full of imagery. I could almost feel the sand beneath my feet as the author describe the surroundings. And it certainly didn’t end as expected!! Good read!!
What a wonderful story! How a small child could endure what she did and come out on top is amazing. I would recommend this to everyone!!
