So in late 1969, when handsome Chase Andrews is found dead, the locals immediately suspect Kya Clark, the so-called Marsh Girl. But Kya is not what they say. Sensitive and intelligent, she has survived for years alone in the marsh that she calls home, finding friends in the gulls and lessons in the sand. Then the time comes when she yearns to be touched and loved. When two young men from town become intrigued by her wild beauty, Kya opens herself to a new life–until the unthinkable happens.
Where the Crawdads Sing is at once an exquisite ode to the natural world, a heartbreaking coming-of-age story, and a surprising tale of possible murder. Owens reminds us that we are forever shaped by the children we once were, and that we are all subject to the beautiful and violent secrets that nature keeps.

One of the best books I’ve read in a long time. Couldn’t put it down and didn’t want it to end. Captivating and original story!
It was interesting, quirky and I loved the ending!!
Loved this book…. kept my interest
If you are looking for a book to completely absorb you from start to finish, this is it! Every word, every paragraph, every scene is written with such feeling that the reader falls into the story, as if it were her own tale, her own history. Kya Clark will undoubtedly go down in literary history as one of those iconic characters, like Scarlett O’Hara, Scout Finch, or Lizbeth Salander–memorable and unique. This is a book I will never put out of my mind. Bravo!
Meh
This book makes you want to get back to reading as soon as possible! It also leaves you wanting to know what happens next!
I loved this book, best I’ve read in many years. I have recommended it to many friends. Looking forward to seeing the movie which is to be made and hope the movie does justice to the book. This book held my attention, just didn’t wish to put it down.
I enjoyed this book mainly for the detailed descriptions of the marsh, which is really the main character of the book.
If, like me, you are a nature-lover, this story of survival and coming of age will grip you. It’s a moody, emotional and atmospheric read and you feel and root for the “Marsh Girl.”
Also: it is beautifully written.
I did not give it five stars because there are too many plot holes, the story is more fantasy than reality: many parts are hard to believe, and the heavy-handed dialect/slang is at times either unbearable or inconsistent.
It’s been a long time since I have enjoyed a book so much. Yes there are some areas that aren’t true to the area but it’s still a wonderful book. I had to re-read it right after I finished it. this will be a book that I will read again & again.
An amazing book.
My favorite book this year.
Excellent book! Well written with believable characters. Highly recommend.
Beautifully written, it’s a great mystery. My interest was held by the unique characters in this book. I loved reading every page.
All I can is so so good…loved all the nature descriptions and how that was a part of the story being told.
well worth getting on a library waiting list to read. hated to put it down when had other things to do.
The ending blew me away! Loved this book!
One of the most entertaining books I’ve read this year! I couldn’t put it down it was that good.
I just loved it. I listened to it . Cassandra Campbell read it so well it sounded like a fairytale. It had a surprise ending and was interesting all the way through the book. I think it would make a good movie.
Could not put this book down until I completed it !!
