So in late 1969, when handsome Chase Andrews is found dead, the locals immediately suspect Kya Clark, the so-called Marsh Girl. But Kya is not what they say. Sensitive and intelligent, she has survived for years alone in the marsh that she calls home, finding friends in the gulls and lessons in the sand. Then the time comes when she yearns to be touched and loved. When two young men from town become intrigued by her wild beauty, Kya opens herself to a new life–until the unthinkable happens.
Where the Crawdads Sing is at once an exquisite ode to the natural world, a heartbreaking coming-of-age story, and a surprising tale of possible murder. Owens reminds us that we are forever shaped by the children we once were, and that we are all subject to the beautiful and violent secrets that nature keeps.

This will be one of my all-time favorite reads. The author introduces us to an enchanting main character and others that we can recognize as people we have known in our own lives. We are busily reading to find ourselves taking account of the actions of members of the sleepy low-country community of the 60’s. The natural science facts we learn here only add to the beauty of the story. A marvelous story!
There is a reason this is on the Best Seller list. Beautifully written!!! I really enjoyed this book. The audio is great too! One that I will be recommending.
Incredible story of strength and resilience. Interesting way to add information about the marshlands. I felt like I was there… and makes me look at nature with a new perspective! Well done!
There are not enough superlatives for this beautifully written book. You can’t put it down. It is an original story that you can’t predict.
Painfully beautiful
Delia Owens is a wonderful writer and draws you into the story quickly. You just want to keep reading. It is a unique story and the setting is well described as are the characters. She and her husband also wrote the Cry of the Kalahari, nonfiction.

I have loved this wonderful book. Such a unique protagonist ! I’m near the end and I don’t want it to be over!
One of the best books I have read lately. Lovely characters, interesting plot and wonderful descriptions of the area where the story is placed. Magical!
Good book, a little slow in the middle.
Absolutely loved it! Very emotional. I notice again how African Americans
rise to the occasion, and the white man fails.
This was a well developed story with amazing characters. It had a murder, love affairs, betrayal, and tears episodes. It was A BEAUTIFULLY WRITTEN BOOK. I never wanted it to end. The tenacity and courage of the main character was overwhelming indescribable. She was a strong girl, and an even stronger woman.
Couldn’t put it down!
