So in late 1969, when handsome Chase Andrews is found dead, the locals immediately suspect Kya Clark, the so-called Marsh Girl. But Kya is not what they say. Sensitive and intelligent, she has survived for years alone in the marsh that she calls home, finding friends in the gulls and lessons in the sand. Then the time comes when she yearns to be touched and loved. When two young men from town become intrigued by her wild beauty, Kya opens herself to a new life–until the unthinkable happens.
Where the Crawdads Sing is at once an exquisite ode to the natural world, a heartbreaking coming-of-age story, and a surprising tale of possible murder. Owens reminds us that we are forever shaped by the children we once were, and that we are all subject to the beautiful and violent secrets that nature keeps.

Beautiful story telling and writing with a surprising twist.
This book was beautifully written. Characters were real developed in the mystery keep you guessing until the end.
Immediately loved the characters in this book
One of the most emotional reads I have ever read. I finished the book over a week ago and still can not get it out of my mind. It is a book reminding us that if we put our minds to something we can do just about anything we choose to do. Exceptional read.
Wonderful story which grabbed me. Best book I read all year.
I loved the story and the author’s writing was great. This is our book club selection and we are having crayfish salad before the discussion.
Absolutely loved this book. The description makes you believe you are right there with these amazing characters .
Great story with a very interesting female lead. Full of nature and beauty, but also an honest view of the harsh reality and twists that life brings.
Couldn’t put it down. So interesting. Book depicts an abandoned child who is strong and self sufficient who longs for love and family. This poor river child is self educated in the science of nature and does amazing things. What a life journey!
Want to read to find out the end!
If I could give this book 7 out of 5 stars, I would.
For a debut author, this book was simply above and beyond. The writing so beautiful and so, so clever. There was a real art to this story.
Kya is such an engaging character.
I don’t normally pick up a book like this to read, but I did, and I am so glad I read Where The Crawdads Sing. Reese Witherspoon’s blurb quote sold me on reading it. Reese also sold me on reading Daisy Jones and the Six. I am just waiting on my library reserve to pop up.
This book was written with a scientific look at the marshlands…the birds, water, flora and fauna. Plus a mystery thrown in. One terrific read!
I found it a page turner with characters that touched my heart and an ending that was surprising but somehow not unexpected.
Best book I’ve read all season…can’t put it down!
A wonderful book something different and inspiring. It shows that no matter what you are given in life you can rise above. Also, I think it shows how you can be that one person who can make a difference in someones life and what a small minded community can do to a person when they don’t give them a chance. Great read.
Great on so many levels.
Great story!
After all the hype, I was surprised that I liked the book. I rarely love books from best seller lists. Wonderfully written.
Very vivid word paintings. Made me want to live there. Wonderful characters.
I’m still thinking about it three days after finishing.
