So in late 1969, when handsome Chase Andrews is found dead, the locals immediately suspect Kya Clark, the so-called Marsh Girl. But Kya is not what they say. Sensitive and intelligent, she has survived for years alone in the marsh that she calls home, finding friends in the gulls and lessons in the sand. Then the time comes when she yearns to be touched and loved. When two young men from town become intrigued by her wild beauty, Kya opens herself to a new life–until the unthinkable happens.
Where the Crawdads Sing is at once an exquisite ode to the natural world, a heartbreaking coming-of-age story, and a surprising tale of possible murder. Owens reminds us that we are forever shaped by the children we once were, and that we are all subject to the beautiful and violent secrets that nature keeps.

We read this book for a book club. I believe everyone liked it and we look forward to the movie.
The book was a little slow in the beginning but picks up speed quickly. The twists are great.
WHERE THE CRAWDADS SING is unusual and easy to read. I loved the viewpoint character, however…. Worth a reader’s time although. I found the ending unexpected.
Wonderful book
The prose in this book is beautiful, the characters are vivid, and the book is magical.

A beautiful story
I really enjoyed this book. I found it hard to put down. I think this is a nice summer read. For sure kept me interested. A different kind of story. This is a fairly new book, It was well spent money, I didn’t want to wait for it through the library, weeks long waiting list.
Great read. A little slow in the beginning, but worth the read. One of my favorites this year.
Great to discuss
Wonderful read. Kya was brought to life in this book. It was a fast read because I wanted to know what happened next but I also did not want it to end. My heart broke for Kya and what was done to her. But she persevered against all odds. I am still wrapping my head around the ending. In one way it brought a smile to my face, but in another way I was disappointed. Very much like life I guess.
Unique tale of a young girl who grows up mostly alone in the marshlands of North Carolina. Themes of family, love, loyalty, and a mystery make up this haunting story.
Got this book as a gift, read it in one day couldn’t put it down, loved it.
This is an extremely well-written book. The setting is as multi-faceted and complex as the characters, all of whom are superbly rendered. If the first few pages seem a little dry, the remainder of the book more than makes up for it. A few pages in, I was unable to sleep until I knew what happened to these characters and their environment.
Very surprising, you’ll enjoy it so much. Painting pictures with words.
Not very realistic but entertaining and interesting characters. Rather predictable.
Excellent and engrossing read! Loved it!
