So in late 1969, when handsome Chase Andrews is found dead, the locals immediately suspect Kya Clark, the so-called Marsh Girl. But Kya is not what they say. Sensitive and intelligent, she has survived for years alone in the marsh that she calls home, finding friends in the gulls and lessons in the sand. Then the time comes when she yearns to be touched and loved. When two young men from town become intrigued by her wild beauty, Kya opens herself to a new life–until the unthinkable happens.
Where the Crawdads Sing is at once an exquisite ode to the natural world, a heartbreaking coming-of-age story, and a surprising tale of possible murder. Owens reminds us that we are forever shaped by the children we once were, and that we are all subject to the beautiful and violent secrets that nature keeps.

Loved it. Shocked by the ending.
Where the Crawdads sing was a wonderful read full of beauty and intrigue.
This book was amazing! The development of the marsh and the town and people made you feel like you were there and knew the people in the story. It was romantic and tragic and inspirational all at the same time.
This book haunts you long after you finish it. The story and the characters are so realistically and beautifully portrayed that it is no wonder it has already been optioned for a film. I hope the movie does the incredible nuanced writing justice. I loved every page.

Loved the description of the marsh, the coming of age theme and the mystery that keeps you guessing till the end.
If you are a fan of “southern” settings, this novel is one to read. Its pace is like the South itself, slow but full of details that keep the reader intrigued.
This book has a surprise ending. I recommend it.

I really enjoyed this story. It was fast-paced with beautiful language and word choice. A must read.
Amazing the resilience of this child growing up in the marsh lands. Self reliance learning to live on her own and surviving without any adults to raise her. Unexpected ending as Her life changed.
