I didn’t want this story to end!”–Reese Witherspoon“Painfully beautiful.”–The New York Times Book ReviewFor years, rumors of the “Marsh Girl” have haunted Barkley Cove, a quiet … years, rumors of the “Marsh Girl” have haunted Barkley Cove, a quiet town on the North Carolina coast. So in late 1969, when handsome Chase Andrews is found dead, the locals immediately suspect Kya Clark, the so-called Marsh Girl. But Kya is not what they say. Sensitive and intelligent, she has survived for years alone in the marsh that she calls home, finding friends in the gulls and lessons in the sand. Then the time comes when she yearns to be touched and loved. When two young men from town become intrigued by her wild beauty, Kya opens herself to a new life–until the unthinkable happens.
Where the Crawdads Sing is at once an exquisite ode to the natural world, a heartbreaking coming-of-age story, and a surprising tale of possible murder. Owens reminds us that we are forever shaped by the children we once were, and that we are all subject to the beautiful and violent secrets that nature keeps.

I loved it. Kept you guessing through out the whole book who did it? Wonderful descriptions of swamp and characters.
Exceptional I’m
Read this for book-club. I thoroughly enjoyed this story.
Loved this book! Writing is descriptive but not too weighted down. Characters were so easy to love or hate!!
This is a book that will stay with you for a long time. I finished it three weeks ago and still continue to reflect back on it
I really enjoyed this book’s characters and storyline. The protagonist, Kya, was such an independent and gentle person that you fell in love with her at the start of the story and rooted for her throughout the book. I also thought that the other characters were well developed. I was a bit surprised at the ending which always makes me enjoy a book. I would highly recommend this book and almost gave it 5 stars.
It’s a classic! Will read again!
Loved this book! Although it took a minute to get into it, I found once I started to connect with the characters, I couldn’t put it down.
loved the ending….
Terrific book!
Wow! Where to begin…with poetic prose and incredible detail, the author exposes the beauty of nature in a North Carolina marsh and the plight of a young girl, left alone and unjustly at odds with the outside world. Indeed, the setting itself becomes a ‘character.’ Depending upon your sensibilities, there is much to find disturbing, raw or graphic, and the chapters do require focused attention as they switchback between the 1950s and the 1960s. A well-told story should cause us to pause and reflect. ‘Where the Crawdads Sing’ will do just that.
I loved this book. The writing was just beautiful ‼
This was such a wonderful story. I had not read a book in a long time that I enjoyed so much. Looking forward to the movie, but I know the book will still shine as a great read.
I read this in two long gulps and could not wait to turn each page. I was a little sad when I finished because I had to return to my own mundane world. I was utterly transported.
4.5 stars!! Wow what a journey I just took!!
This book is about abandonment, hope, love, loss, surviving and so much more. This takes place in 1950’s and 1960’s when life was very different. One girl made her way on her own with a little help from a friend. But could this courageous little Marsh Girl really commit murder?
Ok so the beginning didn’t seem to keep my attention but about 1/4 of the way through I was hooked and did not put the book down. Such a great read. I think this book is for for pre-teens and up. This feels like a good book for young adults to read. I, also, really enjoyed all the lessons I received throughout this book. I was literally “awe” out loud.
Kya is one of the most beautiful women I have ever read about. This book continues so vividly that it felt like this was a real story told my Kya herself. The author did a magnificent job of giving you the visualization of the area where they were at. The Marsh, the twin, the ocean and all the birds and such.
The love story and even the murder took backseat to the Kya story. This was a really great read!
A book once read but probably never forgotten! A debut novel of the utomost!! I had read the 3 memoirs that Delia Owens and her husband, Mark had written during all their years in Africa. These read like a novel, no matter which author is speaking so I was most anxious for “Crawdads”. One can ponder over numerous parts of the book, crying or being happy but you are compelled to read on. Just don’t plan on getting much else accomplished once you start to read it!
I could not put this book down. I was on a long wait list for it to come available to me. I actually listened to it on audio book. Well worth the wait. Exceptional and one of the best I have read in a long while.
I liked this book so much. I definitely would recommend reading this excellent novel. I understand it maybe made into a movie, love to see who would be selected to play the parts.
I could not put this book down.
Completely immersed in this outstanding story I never wanted it to end
