So in late 1969, when handsome Chase Andrews is found dead, the locals immediately suspect Kya Clark, the so-called Marsh Girl. But Kya is not what they say. Sensitive and intelligent, she has survived for years alone in the marsh that she calls home, finding friends in the gulls and lessons in the sand. Then the time comes when she yearns to be touched and loved. When two young men from town become intrigued by her wild beauty, Kya opens herself to a new life–until the unthinkable happens.
Where the Crawdads Sing is at once an exquisite ode to the natural world, a heartbreaking coming-of-age story, and a surprising tale of possible murder. Owens reminds us that we are forever shaped by the children we once were, and that we are all subject to the beautiful and violent secrets that nature keeps.

I loved everything about this book – the characters, the prose, and the ending. It’s worth all the fuss and the audiobook version was SUPERB!
Memorable Read – this is one of those books that you keep thinking about, even after completing it. The main character had a tragic upbringing, but she was strong, and persistent, and although flawed lived to her best potential. I especially liked the twist at the end.
The best “read” in a long time. Can’t wait till the movie…hurry up Reese Witherspoon! Loved the end…a twist!
The story was interesting but I did not like the main character and I did not like the way she disrespected the African American couple in the book who were so nice to her.
This book was a very interesting to read. I was hesitant to start it due to its name. My only regret is that I waited so long to read it.
Not my cup of tea,
I can see why this book has been on the bestsellers list .This is a must read . I have loaned this book to many of my friends and they loved it .
This was one of my favorite recent books. The characters are unforgettable and the story different from anything else out there. The setting and the way it is written is so much a part of what draws you in you won’t want to miss a word of it. I sometimes skim through detailed descriptions but not this time. My book club all agreed that this is a story that stays with you!
GREAT story! Tells of the struggle of a young girl abandoned in North Carolina marsh… how she survives & finally finds love. Also, a murder mystery with an endIng that I didn’t see coming!
Great read one on my favorite for 2019
I’m not sure how to describe this book. It was slow to get into. I’m happy I read it, but I cannot describe it!!!
Great book, easy read great flow. Good charactets.
Love the characters, and story took me right into the marsh with Kya. So sad at times, but such a survival story! I loved the book.
One of the best novels I’ve read in a long time.
Wow. Every once in awhile you read a book that transports you to a different world and completely wraps you in it. The writing immersed me in the locale and the mood and the characters and I never wanted to leave. So well written. This one is going to stay with me for awhile.
This book was quite the page-turner. It had me from the beginning and the ending was unexpected and satisfying.
Very Interesting, beautiful descriptions of nature. Well constructed characters and an ending that left me thinking days after I had finished reading.
Couldn’t put it down!
