I didn’t want this story to end!”–Reese Witherspoon“Painfully beautiful.”–The New York Times Book ReviewFor years, rumors of the “Marsh Girl” have haunted Barkley Cove, a quiet … years, rumors of the “Marsh Girl” have haunted Barkley Cove, a quiet town on the North Carolina coast. So in late 1969, when handsome Chase Andrews is found dead, the locals immediately suspect Kya Clark, the so-called Marsh Girl. But Kya is not what they say. Sensitive and intelligent, she has survived for years alone in the marsh that she calls home, finding friends in the gulls and lessons in the sand. Then the time comes when she yearns to be touched and loved. When two young men from town become intrigued by her wild beauty, Kya opens herself to a new life–until the unthinkable happens.
Where the Crawdads Sing is at once an exquisite ode to the natural world, a heartbreaking coming-of-age story, and a surprising tale of possible murder. Owens reminds us that we are forever shaped by the children we once were, and that we are all subject to the beautiful and violent secrets that nature keeps.

Beautiful, haunting, and thoroughly surprising. I loved every second I spent between these pages and now feel the loss of leaving that beautiful marsh world.
Since picking this up a week ago, I’ve been transported to another time, another place. Absolutely beautiful! I read it in four sessions and it will stay with me for a long time. So evocative, perceptive, empathetic. One of those books I wish I had written.
Such a moving, poignant tale. Sad but hopeful. Tragic but lifegiving.
I chose to listen to the audible version from my local library. It’s the best book I’ve ‘read’ in years. Highly recommend it.
Well, I guess I’m one of those who just didn’t grasp the glory of this book. I tried really hard to like it, but, even though I’m a stickler for detail, some of the very descriptive writing just caused me to feel blah, and I had to quit listening to the story for awhile. I guess I also expected a better courtroom scene, maybe To Kill A Mockingbird or A Time To Kill kind of style, since we had so much vivid minutia description, but I just could not help feel that it was glossed over or more, underwhelming. My favorite parts were Kya and her watercoloring and sketches, and I liked these characters best: Sunday Justice and Kya’s interactions, Jumpin’ and Mabel and their treatment of Kya, Mrs. Singletary, and Jodie. Tate scores points, because he taught Kya to do things for herself and encouraged Kya to succeed for Kya’s benefit, but his college boy behavior really rubbed me raw. Some of the ending I found hard to swallow, while other parts, I loved the foreshadowing from early in the story. I’m not a romance person, and evidently, there are some details that are just too much, even for me.
Great book! An interesting picture of what a life of rejection and in almost total solitude could be like. Surprise ending.
The plot took many unpredictable turns. This is one of those books that you will always remember reading.
I thought it was good, not as great as all of the hype because of its predictability, but beautifully written and worth reading.
Could not put it down. It was SO good.
Well written. Intelligent reading.

Didn’t get the hype but if you are going to talk to others who read, this book will eventually be discussed so might as well read it so you know the twists!
I’ll never recover from the last chapter of that book my favourite book of all time!

Incredible story- thought provoking.
I listened to this audiobook and enjoyed the reading. The narrator is talented and the writer provides wonderful descriptions and characters that put you just outside every scene.
I recommend this book.
