I didn’t want this story to end!”–Reese Witherspoon“Painfully beautiful.”–The New York Times Book ReviewFor years, rumors of the “Marsh Girl” have haunted Barkley Cove, a quiet … years, rumors of the “Marsh Girl” have haunted Barkley Cove, a quiet town on the North Carolina coast. So in late 1969, when handsome Chase Andrews is found dead, the locals immediately suspect Kya Clark, the so-called Marsh Girl. But Kya is not what they say. Sensitive and intelligent, she has survived for years alone in the marsh that she calls home, finding friends in the gulls and lessons in the sand. Then the time comes when she yearns to be touched and loved. When two young men from town become intrigued by her wild beauty, Kya opens herself to a new life–until the unthinkable happens.
Where the Crawdads Sing is at once an exquisite ode to the natural world, a heartbreaking coming-of-age story, and a surprising tale of possible murder. Owens reminds us that we are forever shaped by the children we once were, and that we are all subject to the beautiful and violent secrets that nature keeps.

Unlike anything you’ve read, this book poses a mystery that you really can’t be sure of the ending of, even when you’re shown the evidence. Lovely and wonderful descriptions of nature and society.
I did not like this book. It seemed like it was written to appeal to book groups.
I had a little bit of trouble getting in to this book, but having heard many positive things about it, I decided to continue reading. I’m so glad I did! The characters were well developed and interesting, the story line had many surprises, and I was drawn into the main character’s story. I recommend this engaging book.
Where the Crawdads Sing by Delia Owens, was an Interesting Twist of a Read!
Remind yourself before you start this adventure, that this is a creative work of fiction, and leave your semblance of reality at the door.
The story may take a little getting use to, because it jumps, and unfolds between the presence, and the past.
Kya (The Marsh Girl), Miss Catherine Danielle Clark, the h, is a character that you want to see get her HEA.
Her life is a struggle, but the beauty of the Marsh reigns through, and to some extent, justice is poetic.
Tate, the H, was a good compliment to Kya’s character, although in my opinion, he left much to be desired.
My favorite quote from the story was from Stumper, Tate’s Father, “The definition of a real man is one who cries without shame, reads poetry with his heart, feels opera in his soul, and does what’s necessary to defend a woman.”
I felt strong emotions with this story, and it may not be for everyone; however, I suggest that you give it a try, and decide for yourself.
The crux of the ending didn’t make much sense.
What a wonderful book. I resisted picking it up for a long time (too ubiquitous? Worried about a letdown following the hype?) but it lived up to all the tributes made. This was the first book to move me to tears in a long time. I cared more about Kya and Tate than any other characters I’ve read about this year. I won’t comment further on the plot as I don’t want to risk inadvertent spoilers. Unlike “In Five Years” or MDV which I read about extensively before starting both, I knew close to nothing about Crawdads. I’m very happy I just jumped right in.
I appreciated that many GoodReaders also gave the book high marks, as I may never have taken it off the “To Read” shelf.
one of my all-time favorites!
Thoroughly enjoyed this book Great characterisation
Informative tpp
Great writing.
Love this book.
One of the best books I read in 2019!
I read this book some time ago but much of it sticks with me. I thought the characters were very well developed. It was a lifestyle different than any I had read about before. The main character in the book was a young child and her mama and daddy, while pretty self absorbed, managed to teach the child some life skills. After they both abandoned her, this story is about how this poor young child saved herself.
Loved Kya from the start. The North Carolina swamplands setting is unusual and described so well. I really enjoyed this book – it’s got mystery and romance. Great reveal at the end.
Interesting story. Unexpected ending.
I couldn’t put this book down! Very original story.
I have seen so many good reviews, but just as many negative reviews for this book. In fact I almost didn’t read it due to all of the negative, but I am so thankful that I did. To me this was so much more than just another dime a dozen story. It was unique and resonated deeply, if you are someone who has ever felt alone in this world you will connect with Kya.
I really enjoyed the story and despite the fact I felt like there could of been more detail through the story about a few things we find out at the end Where the Crawdads Sing will be added to my top reads of 2020! I cannot even put into words the emotion I felt when it was over.
This book!! Kya is SO likable and I love how she and her ways of thinking are portrayed – she is officially on my favorite book characters list. The author also creates some wonderful minor characters and paints vivid pictures with her descriptions. After reading this, I would read anything that Delia Owens writes.
I read & discussed this book weekly with some of my girlfriends and it made this read even more enjoyable. Definitely recommend.
A spellbinding book. The setting ensnared my imagination; I fell in love with the swamp, the marshes. And the characters hooked me from page one. Because Kya was so young, I worried about her relentlessly as I turned pages. I did not want the story to end.
There’s a bit of a twist at the end.
Great book!
