So in late 1969, when handsome Chase Andrews is found dead, the locals immediately suspect Kya Clark, the so-called Marsh Girl. But Kya is not what they say. Sensitive and intelligent, she has survived for years alone in the marsh that she calls home, finding friends in the gulls and lessons in the sand. Then the time comes when she yearns to be touched and loved. When two young men from town become intrigued by her wild beauty, Kya opens herself to a new life–until the unthinkable happens.
Where the Crawdads Sing is at once an exquisite ode to the natural world, a heartbreaking coming-of-age story, and a surprising tale of possible murder. Owens reminds us that we are forever shaped by the children we once were, and that we are all subject to the beautiful and violent secrets that nature keeps.

Fantastic book! Must read! Original story that sucks you right in! Surprise ending.
Actually lived up to the hype and reviews. Recommended by niece and best friend who loved it for different reasons.
This is a great story of how someone with everything against her, a little girl on her own, not only survives, but achieves it while staying true to herself. The details of the watery existence and natural world is beautiful, as are the workings of her mind navigating what the world tries to throw at her. Great book.
This story is ludicrous — the only good parts are when she wrote about the marshes and their flora. Did she read Educated first?
If I had to chose a favorite book I have read so far this year, it would hands down be this book. When I say I couldn’t put this book down, I mean it. I was addicted. I read on my 15 minute breaks at work, and every second I could until I finished this book. It had such a good storyline, and it was one I will reread over and over. This book made me cry happy tears and sad tears again and again(I won’t spoil it for you). I read this book on the Libby app, but if I can get my hands on a physical copy, I will purchase this book so I can have it forever!
Such a wonderful, well written story.
Another awesome book
This story of Kia will captivate you. Her life is astonishing. Prejudice and poverty are an integral part of her. The people in her life are few and diverse, but all leave a lasting impression. Her connection with nature and the land she lives in is like a poem, like many poems! It’s impossible to predict how Kia’s story will end. I loved this book!
This is the best book I’ve read in a while. So tender, so real. The nature of the South Carolina swamps and marshes is described with exquisite beauty, without being OTT. I loved the story, and connected deeply with Kya and her struggles and quiet dignity, and loved her edge.
This is an amazing book! I have read it more than once. It makes you think.
My favorite book!!
Even though, the child raising herself was unrealistic, everything else was very interesting. I loved the twist at the end and the surprise ending.
Not a favorite for me. But I enjoyed reading it.
This novel reminded me of the classic To kill a mockingbird. Very enjoyable, sad and hopeful at the same time.
I loved this book! It was almost like reading poetry. Someone else said that they didn’t like the book because it was impossible for a child to do all of the things that this child did but to me that was just a part of the the mystical nature of the book. Sad but lovely at the same time.
Wonderful story of triumph and tragedy. I couldn’t wait to delve into the next chapter.
A touching story with unexpected twists that reveals how kindness and cruelty can touch people and shape them over their lives.
Intriguing story line!
This book reminded me of stories my mom told of her childhood. Of course, Kya’s journey is very different from my mom’s and the story Delia Owens weaves will keep you reading late into the night . . . You’ll remember Kya’s journey long after the last page . . . Enjoy!!!
An abandoned girl. A town who judged. A boy who loved. So many characters will pull you and grab you. You cannot help but fall in love with Kya, feel her pain, her loneliness, her rise above every obstacle life throws her way. An emotional story through and through!
