Another edgy thriller from one of my favorite authors. The sinister factor starts early and builds quickly as Southern town charm gives way to deadly menace and dangerous secrets in this twist-a-minute novel. A string of murders, a crack FBI team and a voiceless girl desperate for revenge, When You See Me has it all.
Lisa Gardner is astonishing. I am endlessly gasping with delight and awe at her books–so gorgeously written, so tautly plotted, and so full of understanding about what makes great stories and great books and great characters. Lisa has perfected the super-fast cannot-put-it-down thriller, and she does it again in WHEN YOU SEE ME.Not to be missed!
When You See Me blew me away! The disturbing Jacob Ness just won’t go away. Every character on Quincy and Warren’s task force is brought to life in this novel. Even the sinister little town in Georgia comes alive, breathing down D.D Warren, Flora Dane, and Kimberly Quincy’s necks and watching their every move. Every time I thought I had it all figured out, I was proven wrong. If you like fast-paced thrillers with kick-ass female protagonists, then this is the novel for you.
An edgy thriller with haunted characters and a masterfully constructed plot, When You See Me very cleverly brings together several characters from Gardener’s previous books in an intoxicating and unforgettable story of a town where dark secrets lurk just beneath the surface. A compelling, emotional, and sometimes disturbing read, When You See Me is Lisa Gardener at her finest.
A twisty-turny psycho-thriller with a plot and characters that won’t let you go. Lisa Gardner is at the top of her game!
This eagerly-awaited story, bringing Flora Dane, DD Warren and Kimberly Quincy together to confront the monster who was Flora’s past, was a tall order to execute and in the hands of a less gifted writer, could have failed to live up to the hype–but instead, it became so much more than just Flora’s story.
These three women are each absolutely fascinating on their own, but together, a more interesting and dynamic trio of kickass females is hard to image, yet they are each so much more nuanced and layered than that. (And for spoiler’s sake, I won’t get into the fascinating new character in this book!)
Once again, hats off to a marvel of a thriller writer who puts her all into her stories and makes them shine!
When You See Me is another rocket-fuel-propelled thriller from Lisa Gardner. This culmination of her great talents sees the return of her finest characters (including my favorite, Flora Dane), who collide with an intrigue that starts out chillingly intimate and explodes into a sky-high denouement that will leave you breathless.
I’ve read Lisa Gardner for years. Her books have never disappointed me in the plots, characters, or the action!! “When You See Me” kept me wanting to read all day (I had to sleep sometime) and almost did!!. D.D. Warren, Flora Dane, Kimberly Quincy team up with IT guru Keith to help solve this mystery that started in the previous book “Never Tell”. Read the synopsis from the publisher to get more details. But read the book if you want to immerse yourself in a wonderfully written piece of literature.
Gardner writes a couple of series so I have some catch up to do while I wait for the next D.D. Warren episode. The Quincy/Rainie series looks good too.
When You See Me was darn near impossible for me to put down! I could have stayed up all night just to see what was going to happen next. Lisa Gardner has created this incredible installment in her famous D.D. Warren series, and it does not disappoint. The suspense and on the edge of your seat action literally made my heart race. D.D. has again teamed up with FBI Special Agent Quincy to investigate the deceased serial kidnapper Jacob Ness. The lone survivor of his terror, Flora Dane, is again part of the task force along with her new “friend” Keith Edgar. The investigation leads to a whole new investigation of more horrific evil. Both Flora and D.D.’s lives are changed at the end of this read, and I wouldn’t dream of spoiling the surprises! Highly recommend!
Fantastic Thriller!!
I absolutely loved this book because it was packed full of suspense which I HAD to read in one day!! Yep, that good. We get another dose of D.D. Warren with a crime suspense thriller that kept me on the edge of my seat the whole time. Girls are being found in shallow graves on a mountain side in a small tourist town and it’s just the place that all of these dark dealings are going down. No one suspects their neighbors would have any part of this. You’ll have to read to see all the surprises in store that kept my heart pounding. A definite must read.
Lisa Gardner’s police procedurals are beyond compare, and WHEN YOU SEE ME is no exception. Flawless pacing and vivid characters – some new, some returning – make this one of my favorite Gardner books yet.
If Lisa Gardner writes it, I’m all in! I haven’t read anything she’s written I didn’t like and this was no exception. A few characters we’ve seen before in her books are in this one to. DD Warren and Kimberly Quincey combine forces (again) to totally kick a**. I started this one with audio while on a road trip and couldn’t wait to see what happened, so I found it from my library and checked it out to finish reading while on my hotel. So…..I must give the narrator, Kirsten Potter props for a great job too. You both are awesome!
I always enjoy a D. D. Warren story! I wished this book had a little more of D.D., though.
Flora Dane has been working on healing ever since she escaped from serial killer Jacob Ness. When a body is discovered in the woods of Georgia, she is helping both D.D. and Kimberly Quincy. They uncover more than just a body.
There is also a young girl who is mute after a brain injury, but could hold the key to solving the crimes.
This was another solid D.D. Warren case.

When 2 hikers find the skeletal remains of Lilah Abenito, a girl that went missing 15 years ago, it looks like she’s another victim of serial killer Jacob Ness. A federal multi-agency task force is formed that includes Boston detective DD Warren and SSA Kimberly Quincy but also Flora Dane (the only survivor of Ness) and her tech friend Keith Edgar. The taskforce travels to the small village in the mountains of Georgia near the Appalachian Trail. Once they’ve arrived, they encounter hostile locals, more hidden graves and a fresh murder. Ness has been dead for 8 years and can’t be behind the new murder. Flora thinks that the remote burial site deep in the woods isn’t typical for the fat and unfit Ness. Did he have an accomplice or is there a second serial killer?
All hail to the queen! Lisa Gardner crafted another brilliant book with so many wrong turns that she outdid herself. There are happy encounters with old acquaintances but also an awful lot of horrible and evil deeds and those committing them. I just don’t know what praise I can give that others haven’t done better. But my first read of 2021 was definitely a winner. I hope that the rest of this year yields more of the same quality.
There are 4 protagonists in this book, each of them tells part of the story. In their own way, they’re all very strong and smart woman. Flora Dane is the survivor of abduction and terrible abuse for a year and a half. DD Warren is the Boston detective around whom the series is crafted and should be the central character, but here she shares equally with her co-stars. She’s been a career woman all her life until she found love with Alex. Now she can get homesick at moments. Kimberly Quincy, Supervisor Special Agents leads the taskforce but is also an old acquaintance of both Flora and DD. The bravest addition to form a quartet is a nameless, mute girl who’s been a captive of the very bad man (a demon) and plays stupid while performing slave labour. Her special POV gives the reader inside information that the task force doesn’t know yet.
I must say that the Appalachian Trail seems to be a very dangerous area and a serial killer hotspot. This is the third book or series in a couple of months that takes place on or around that hike. So, if you plan to take a hike into the woods, beware!
I thank Netgalley and Random House UK, Cornerstone for the free ARC they provided me with and this is my honest, unbiased review of it.
Another great addition to the Gardner Universe. The suspense was great and the bad guys where really bad. Once started it is impossible to put the book down. I hope to see more of Bonita in the next D-D- Warren book She deserves the best and more, to make up for all the bad things happened to her.
It seem like I just started this book and now I am finished! This book kept me glued to the page not only with the story but with the characters, there was a lot going on in this story but it all flowed so well I was never lost. If you like suspense/thrillers then this is the book for you!
Oh my I loved this book. I live in Alabama and I know about the Georgia mountains. Read it in two days and couldn’t put it down.
Suspense and a thriller with so many unknowns. I felt bad for Bonita but I’m glad she has made friends and getting the help with her speech.
I read everything Lisa Gardner writes. DD Warren is just the best character. I can’t wait for her next book
Lisa Gardner never disappoints. A story with 3 of her best bad*** women, D.D. Warren, Flora Dane and Kimberly Quincy – you know you’re in for a great read!
Love D.D. Warner. A terrific thriller. 3 fantastic female protagonists.
