Charming, poignant, and sexy, When You Got a Good Thing pulled me in with its sweet charm and deft storytelling, and didn’t let go until the very last page. It has everything I love in a small-town romance! ~USA Today Best-Selling Author Tawna FenskeA moment. A mistake. That’s all it took for Kennedy Reynolds to lose her first love and her family. I grabbed this book as a freebie without reading the blurb or anything. Then I was looking for something to read and checked out the reviews for this one and they were pretty much all great, so I dove right in.
The reviews were right. This book was really good. More than just a romance, it’s a story of family, forgiveness and moving forward. I loved seeing these for foster-turned-adoptee sisters reunite and help with the newest foster, Ari. Even though I hate why they had to come together. I
As for the romance, I really loved Xander and Kennedy together and loved that there were roadblocks and stumbles but that they never denied how much they never stopped loving each other. Xander was this perfect blend of alpha, not afraid to stand up to his family and Kennedy’s but with a real soft side for Kennedy.
I’m absolutely going to be reading the rest of the books in this series AND I found a new author to Fangirl over!
Loved the characters and the enduring love!
What a great emotional story with great main characters. Not only do the main characters have some pretty good depth so does the supporting cast of characters. Kennedy’s sisters are not easy as pie regular people either. They all carry wounds, rejections and coping methods. Pru’s might be a little bit more hidden but as much as she’s more the peacemaker of the group, she still is not without her own hurts.
It was so cool how their mom Joan, adopted all of them and made them a family. A family that is still stinging mad at what they see as Kennedy’s unfeeling rejection of that very family, for years. They see her as flighty, careless and someone who was going to be of very little help as they try to move on after Joan’s death. It cut her to the bone but it hurt even more that she couldn’t defend herself with the truth of why she left and stayed that way. But the truth will eventually come out and its quite the story.
Kennedy wasn’t a carbon copy of anyone else, she marched to her own drummer and that often caused her to be misunderstood. It was so good to see though that she had so much to offer much of it coming from her travels as she grew up more on the road.
Xander always believed in Kennedy and he never got over her. He was such a great guy, an honorable man. Someone though that did have flaws of course but not so many that overpowered who he really was. And while Kennedy was one, he was someone who was there for the Reynolds family, time after time. He cared about the family but it was also because of some guilt on his part for being the reason that Kennedy left. They had a huge fight but as the story gets deeper, the reader gets to see whether that guilt was justified or not.
There is so much more to the story so I will leave my review right here. Just know that long held secrets do get revealed.
Just a fun fact…On another book review that I did, “See you Again” I saw a quick look into this book. I said it sounded so good that I wanted to read it. Imagine my surprise when I looked it up on Amazon and realized I already had the book. I’m so glad I did.
Forgiving
Kennedy left at 18 and hasn’t been back, there were nobody knew about. Zander loved her and couldn’t understand why she left. Now her foster\adopted mom has died she has come home. 4 sisters loved her and were having to find their way as adults. Will Kennedy & Zander be able to fix what was broken.
Beautiful writing and imagery of this wonderful small town and four sisters stuggling to come together after the death of their mother. A story of second chance love and acceptance with a high sweetness factor. A page-turner!
I loved this book! Kennedy and Xander are perfect together. Their relationship has a solid foundation of friendship to keep it strong. Their journey to overcome the obstacle that separated them is believable. They worked through the problems and came through stronger than when they started.
Xander is such a sweet, strong, moral man. He isn’t like so many H’s because he never feels the need to prove his manhood by acting macho. He proves his manliness with everything he does. Kennedy has low self-esteem–especially around her sisters. She works hard to prove herself and finally realizes she isn’t unworthy. That she has a lot to offer. It was a joy to see her grow in that way.
Personally, I couldn’t have forgiven the ‘villain’. Forgiving gave Kennedy the closure she so desperately needed and I’m glad she was able to do it
The secondary characters are well-developed and interesting. I’m really looking forward to seeing which one gets their story told next.
If you enjoy well-written romances with well-developed characters, then definitely read When You Got A Good Thing. I am eagerly looking forward to the rest of the series.
Kait Nolan is a new to me author but she’s one I will be reading more from! When You Got A Good Thing is the story of Xander & Kennedy, high school lovers torn apart & kept apart by lies & deceit. Kennedy has been traveling Europe for years, taking different jobs to pay her way. She doesn’t trust easily. Everyone she loves & trusts has hurt her by leaving, not believing her or not standing up for her except her adoptive mother. She was bartending in Ireland when she received a call regarding a tragedy in her family. Can she gain back their confidence without detailing why she left? Is the threat gone?
Xander can’t believe she’s back. She’s finally come back to her family, not to him. He blew that when she felt she had to sneak away in the dead of night leaving her family & him behind. She got back in touch with her family but hasn’t been home in 10 years. His heart stopped when he saw her again. Could they at least be friends again?
Kait Nolan has written a series about 4 adopted girls & the family they made. I was drawn into the story immediately & couldn’t stop reading until the last page. The author managed to get me to feel every emotion with Kennedy – fear, grief, anger, sorrow. When the mother dies, the girls band together to save the house & its legacy. Theses strong women each have their own heartbreaking stories about life before their foster mother adopted them & their life since. These women are heartbreaking & damaged with what they’ve gone through. They each have their own strengths & personalities that pull them together but also push them apart. They don’t think before they speak & so their words can hurt. However, their actions show their love the loudest. This was a great book!
