Chilling, original, and incredibly unsettling… You will not be able to stop reading.
Meh??? I guess if I could have given it 2.5stars, I would have but I’m not feeling the urge to round up to a 3star rating. Pretty early in the story, the author alludes to enough that I pretty much figured out the plotline by the 40% mark. I didn’t like any of the characters and by the end didn’t care how it ended. The best I can say is that it keep me interested enough to finish it.
All this tells me two things: (a) either the story isn’t very well written, and/or (b) I have read WAY too many of these books. I’m thinking I need to either stick to my fave authors and series and/or take a break and spend some time reading another genre for awhile. I read because I enjoy it and there is nothing enjoyable about wasting my time reading a crappy book.
Whew… this book!! In WHEN YOU FIND ME, Gray’s husband, Paul, goes missing after Gray’s night of heavy drinking. She can’t remember a thing, but soon, a woman named Annie contacts her, claiming to have information about Paul—but whether she’s intending to help or hurt Gray remains to be seen. I read this book in twenty-four hours, completely addicted to the dark and juicy story, the unraveling secrets, and PJ Vernon’s sharp and beautiful prose. I thought for sure I had things figured out (I was GLOATING to myself about how I definitely knew what was going to be the big twist)—and I was completely wrong! The real ending was so much better than anything I guessed—not to mention utterly chilling. This story was so thrilling and twisty and masterfully plotted; I’m in awe of what Vernon has accomplished here.
Great story. I listened to the audio and had to resist the urge to buy the print version just so I could get to the end and see what happened.
The real hang-up is probably is I wanted something more satisfying for the protagonist at the end, especially after what she’d gone through. I saw it coming, but still wish it had ended differently.
P. J. Vernon’s taut debut is destined to be one of the most electrifying thrillers of 2018. From an exciting new author to watch, When You Find Me is a definite addition to your must-read list.
When You Find Me is the sort of story that grabs you by the neck and keeps you breathless as the secrets of this genteel southern world unfold in a series of horrifying revelations. Like a gin-soaked fever-dream, it unfolds at a delicious pace. Set aside a day; once you start, you won’t put it down.
I loved this book! Mercurial characters and excellent writing kept me riveted from beginning to end. Vernon makes us question everything and everyone…
An atmospheric thriller that pulls readers deep into the muck of a wealthy Carolina family and sucks them under, leaving them gasping for breath at the shocking conclusion.
