“Spellbinding and bewitching, When Wishes Bleed is the perfect mix of magic, danger, death, and love.” – #1 New York Times Bestselling Author Jennifer L. ArmentroutOne Prince. One Witch. One Fate.
The upheaval in my life began the moment a prince stumbled into my house and asked me to read his fortune. Any other night, I might have made an excuse to get him to leave, but this was no normal … him to leave, but this was no normal visit. My fingers prickled to touch him. So, I granted his request by handing him a single wishbone. When he snapped it, the wish … bled.
Hearing me suck in a shocked breath, he asked what it meant. Such an ominous omen could only mean one thing: his death was imminent. Fate revealed that he wouldn’t die of natural causes. Someone wanted him dead. Stunned by the revelation, the man I now knew as Prince Tauren disappeared into a night I feared he wouldn’t survive.
The following day, I received an invitation to the castle. While it seemed the prince believed I could intervene and uncover who was plotting his death, his motives didn’t stop there. I was being summoned to join twelve other women in vying for the opportunity to be his wife and future queen. Going could mean jeopardizing my plans to reclaim my heritage and resurrect the House of Fate. But staying would guarantee Tauren’s death, and the blood of his wish would be on my hands.
When Wishes Bleed is a young adult fantasy romance perfect for fans of Adrienne Young, Cora Carmack and Kiera Cass.

Such a beautiful story…
I loved it from beginning to end. The romance was sweet and clean (for those who don’t enjoy smut), the magic system was clever, the words…well, Bond has a way of transforming prose into poetry without weighing down her descriptions…so the words were gorgeous. Can’t rave hard enough about this gem.
I absolutely enjoyed reading this from beginning to end. The way the story unfolded and came to be is absolutely enjoyable. Can’t wait to read again.
Great read. Witches, prince, mystery
A book as wonderful as the cover! I haven’t read Casey L. Bond before and I’m so glad I decided to jump in! I haven’t read a book in one sitting in a long time, but I couldn’t put this one down.
If you like books with a touch of magic, a dash of romance, and a generous sprinkle of the unknown then this book is perfect for you!
This book was amazing. The characters were deep and each carried their own unique personalities. The plot was phenomenal. And the world building! This world was awesome. The ideas and creativity blew my mind.
If you like witches, tales of fate, beautiful dresses, and characters you can’t help but fall in love with, this book is for you. There’s not an emotionally flat spot in this book. It had all the feels. I have nothing but good things to say.
This is one of those “I have no respect for tomorrow’ reads.
As I write this review I’m a bit gitty with pleasure and excitement. I saw one of my favorites authors had read this, and trusting her taste I decided to give this a try. Am I ever glad I did! This story is utterly amazing!!
It’s flawless, arresting, engaging and beautiful, bold and dark, spellbinding and spirited!
The story is perfection, with amazing characters and a brilliantly designed world. I truly never wanted to leave. There are real life issues, humor and heart. I even cried a few times with both heartache and joy.
At every turn in the story I thought I knew what was going to happen, but never truly guessed. The author wove such an intricate story I couldn’t help but devour every line. I was upset at one point, but then the author righted my worry in the most amazing way.
I truly could not have loved this story more. I have found a new author to love, a new world in which I want to live and characters that will stay with me for years, 10 bewitching stars!!
What can one say about a story with such an impacting beginning? The eternal struggle to be included and accepted in a judgmental society, forbidden love and the eternal fight to do the best, these are the main ingredients of this amazing, lovely and incredible narrative. Great book.
Epic romance and gripping mystery set in a delicately dark and beautiful fantasy. This one is a highly imaginative, roller coaster of emotion. Great read!!
What isn’t to love in this story? Characters are well developed. You feel as if you could talk to them and get a response.
Love the witches, Fate, prince, kingdom of Nautilus. So many characters to hate, which good storytelling has. You can’t have all good characters. I need good and evil to fully pull me into the story.
The book is edited beautifully. That is a huge deal for me. So, bravo.
Grab this book now and get lost. You’ll be glad you did.
Casey L Bond’s When Wishes Bleed was an amazing and unique fairy tale. It’s not a retelling, but a completely new tale like nothing you’ve ever read before.
Sable, the Daughter of Fate, doesn’t have an easy life. She’s called by Fate to exercise it’s will. She’s also treated as an outcast in her homeland by most of the other witches, except for one.
On the night of the festival, when borders are open to others to visit, Sable hopes to earn some coin by reading fortunes. When a man with golden eyes asks Sable to read for him, her life will be changed forever.
Prince Tauren never expected to be told his life was in danger when visiting the festival. But, when Sable shares his death is fated after the wishbone he snaps bleeds, he’s determined that fate will take a different path.
When Sable receives an invitation to the palace, she can’t refuse and finds herself in a contest vying for marriage with the prince while also working to keep him alive behind the scenes. Knowing she can’t ever marry Tauren, she still can’t help but fall in love with him. But, what does fate have in store for both Sable and the House of Fate as well as Tauren?
Casey L. Bond has woven a tale with unique and interesting characters. Sable and her relationship with Fate was completely intriguing. Her traveling companions Brecan and Mira were also fantastic characters with some very cool powers of their own. And, Tauren really is a prince of a man. He’s loyal and cares about his people and finds himself wanting Sable more than he should knowing that they really do come from two different worlds.
When Wishes Bleed had so many cool new ideas with the different types of witches and magic, a “Bachelor” like tv show for Tauren to choose his bride, and of course, the always unpredictable presence of Fate. There are also some amazing twists and turns and unexpected happenings that kept me enraptured.
When Wishes Bleed was a breathtaking fairy tale of love, the power of bonds and friendships, and believing in yourself and your abilities. 5 stars!
Casey Bond takes us on a magical journey where witchcraft meets dystopian fiction changing your life forever.
When Wishes Bleed is whirlwind journey filled with spells, princes, and secrets pasts. Fate’s Daughter, Sable has the fate of her house and her communities life on her shoulders when the kingdom’s prince, Tauren urges her to help him evade his own fate. Thrust into the world of society and secretly helping the prince, Sable’s world turns on end. She overcomes so many obstacles as she discovers herself, her passion and the fate love has awaiting her.
With a smattering of ideas from some of our favorite young adult dystopian fiction novels like Kiera Cass’ Selection and Suzanne Collins, The Hunger Games, Bond takes her unique spin in creating another completely addictive fictional world where characters defy all odds. I absolutely loved When Wishes Bleed. There was so much character development and complex story creation that this novel left me reeling long after turning the last page. Although, I am unsure if this novel will be turned into a series, I can’t help but say there are so many more characters I’d love to hear from in the future. Bond continues to write some of the best novels in her genre. I can’t press upon you enough to take a chance on this author.
That ending!!!! Oh my stars I think Ms Bond is trying to kill me. Each of the three parts could stand as a novella but are so much better that she putthem all into one gloriously long read. The sectors, the witches, Sable being the daughter of Fate, and everything in these pages were exquisite.
I am so at a loss on how to review this without giving things away but to say you NEED to read this and I hope we get a follow up novella on Mira, Brecan, Arron and everyone else from this story.
One King. One Witch. One Fate.
This was an incredible story!! Can you imagine having the power to know ones fate and go through with it? To me, that would be a scary . I just don’t think I could do it…
The characters in this story were phenomenal. I absolutely loved reading about Sable and Tauren. These were an amazing couple and together, they made an unforgettable team. Fate for sure was working on their side in this story.
The story-line magnificent. I really couldn’t put this book down because I HAD to know what was going to happen next!! And I was shocked by the ending and I am hoping there is another story coming soon. Bond really outdid herself this time with this story of romance and fantasy!! BRAVO!! I highly recommend this read!!
I love witch stories, and this one was no exception. I highly recommend reading this book. It is amazing on so many levels. The way the characters were built, the emotions you feel while reading is almost like they come out if the book itself.
One Prince. One Witch. One Fate.
I am left at a loss for words. Casey somehow takes things I normally don’t like and makes them magical. Sectors, there are 13 different ones, eh. Royals, blah. Witches, cool! Somehow she takes them all and just wow! Her mind is a scary, wonderful place!
I received this during a free book promotion, based on the title. I had no clue it would be so good. Ostensibly, it is a princess competition, and Sable is just one of 13 chosen to compete for the Prince. I love this trope anyways, but the trope is the perfect backdrop to explore how much control we have over fate, tradition, and upbringing.
For Sable, Fate is like a God residing inside her, and Fate allows her to see futures and character. It is also one point in the pentagram, along with Earth, Wind, Fire, and Water. The magic system is well detailed, and I would like to see more stories based in this magic world, but the mages were not tied to just one elemental power, which confused me a tiny bit.
In the plot, Sable thinks she is visiting the crown in order to save the Prince from murder, as she has foreseen. But the real shiner comes from her “Fairy Godmother” who uses spiders to create the most amazing fashions for her. That priestess rocks.
The plot is paced well until the end, which I thought was finished at 90-95%, but you get the full HEA. There are no cliffhangers for a part 2.
Well . . . this is going to be the world’s shortest review.
It’s GREAT!
Go read it!
. . . Did you read it yet?
No? Need more convincing? Ok, here it goes—
First, I want to address something I saw in another review that was negative. They used the term “instalove.” I feel like this feels more instant because it is NOT an enemies to lovers story. If you go into it knowing that, you can enjoy it for the very sweet love story that it is.
I really loved the characters and the world that was created; the story as a whole was simply wonderful. It was a quick and easy read!
At the end of the day it gets five stars because I stayed up till 1am finishing it. I simply could not help myself! Needless to say, the morning was rough!

Rated:
Well… Well… Well… Wasnt this book fabulous!! When Wishes Bleed is the first story I have read by Casey L. Bond, but it will not be my last. The story breath-taking. The characters wonderful. AND the plot line was both unexpected and creative. I am quite actually enthusiastic about diving into book 2, The Omen Stones, right away.
In the first book in the When Wishes Bleed series we have a prince. A witch. And fate. In the body of Sable, a force lay within her for she is The Daughter of Fate. She had been hated and shunned by her peers until she became of age to rule over the House of Fate. There she will spend the first day, cleaning, getting her house ready for festivities and hoping for some customers wanting a reading. When her first patron stumbles to her steps she gives her reading. Then a second. Then her third which proved to be a drunken mess. Instead of fate stirring within her it is her heart that awakens. When his fate is read it, it was she that was shaken for the wish bone bled and her heart affected
.
The next day she receives an invitation from the prince of Nautilus to participate in an archaic tradition of choosing a bride for the himself. 13 women are chosen from each sector of the kingdom to compete for the title of the princes’ bride. Sable of course has a different purpose since she delivered the premonition of the princes death. She is to help find the would be killer and stop him from killing HER prince. For her heart has already chosen.
.
I was completely enamored by this store. The words lept from the pages and entranced me with ever turn. Breathtaking in her writing. Descriptive in her style. Beautiful in her mastery of storytelling. Casey did not disappoint
.
5 stars to Casey L. Bond and a tip of my Nerd Girl hat.
