I had the honor to read the beginnings of this book a couple of years ago during this authors idea stage, and I must say, it was a really cool experience. Two years later, I get to read the final product, and it’s a pretty good story. Loved Cam and Evan’s history, although having shared so much as teenagers I didn’t like the fact he just took off without having said goodbye to her. Years later she’s back in town with her teenager, headed for divorce after finding out her husband had a very public affair. I loathe cheaters, so it was great to see that Cam took her daughter back to the place where she felt most comfortable, Timber Creek. Loved the small town environment, loved that Cam’s high school friends were still there to be her support system, and really loved that Evan was now the hot Sheriff in town! Didn’t care for the cruel attitude Morgan had, just got kind of old, but after the chain of events it was nice that things settled down. Overall a really good story. Looking forward to reading about Christy and Mark.
I voluntarily reviewed an ARC copy of this book.
Cam Riley and Evan Anderson were high school sweethearts until he left without a word. When she returns to Timber Creek, after her marriage falls apart, she isn’t expecting Evan to be there still. She doesn’t return alone though. She has her 15 year old troubled daughter. I’m not going to give any spoilers, so please grab your copy and read this realistic story. You will fall in love with all the characters and want to read more about them. I can’t wait to read Christy and Mark’s story next.
Cam Riley finds herself and her teen daughter back in her hometown in the book When We Left by Elena Aitken, book one in her Timber Creek series. After a painful divorce, Cam headed home to heal and start over. She hoped this change of scenery will also help her daughter stay out of trouble and come to grip with her new life. The only problem is encountering Officer Evan Anderson, Cam’s first love. Evan has never forgotten Cam but he broke her heart once and she’s not sure she trusts him to not do it again. However, their attraction is hard to ignore, and the connection that existed between them so many years ago, is still very much alive. This might just be the second chance they’ve always wanted, but there are years of hurt and misunderstandings between them. Never mind the truth of the past and the reality of the present could once again threaten to keep them apart.
I loved reading this book and had trouble putting this book down. Every time I read one Ms. Aitken’s books I think she can’t write another better than this one, but she does. Each and every time. Each and every book. Elena really knows how to tell a wonderful story, drawing me into the story and not letting me go until I read the last page, leaving me wanting more. Her words and stories make me want to befriend her characters and live in their small town. I am looking forward to the next book in this series and highly recommend this book to other readers.
Cam can’t believe she’s back in her hometown. When everything fell apart, it was the first place she’d thought of – familiar, warm, comforting, safe. Everything she needed right now. Hopefully it would help her daughter, Morgan, in this rough time. Cam’s thoughts were of finding a way to survive the breakup of her marriage & helping her daughter accept that, her father’s new wife & baby & the way he’s pulling away from his “dad” role. It’s a big deal & she also needs a job & a way to support them. Life can’t get any worse, right?
Evan can’t believe it. He pulled over a distracted driver on her cell phone & it was his high school sweetheart, Cam. They were planning on being together for life until he left her & enlisted. He planned on coming back for her but she was gone when he did. Now, she’s back. Does he have a second chance?
Elena Aitken has a fantastic start to a new series. The characters are three dimensional & realistic. From the first, the reader can identify with the characters & tap into their emotions as they read. The plot has some twists & surprises along the way that keep you involved. Ms. Aitken takes you on a journey of happiness & second chances from beginning to end. Each character has to make the decision to be happy & accept the changes in their lives. Excellent stat! I can’t wait for When We Were Us!
A sweet story. It is very much like the Harlequin Romance novels. There are parts I found heart warming but there is the drama to balance the story. This is an easy read and is perfect for a vacation read.
When We Left is the first book in the Timber Creek series. I love second-chance stories, and Cam and Evan’s story kept me hooked. This is definitely one not to be missed. I am looking forward to the next book in the series.
A new sure-to-be-HIT series from Elena Aitken. Meet Cam…. single mom with a teenage daughter, Morgan. Just trying to get on her feet after an epic split from her to-be-ex, Cam decides to move her and her daughter back to the small town of Timber Creek. What she doesn’t expect is to run into her high-school sweetheart and true-love, Evan, who broke her heart sixteen years ago when he unexpectedly left town and Cam. I don’t want to spoil it for anyone but what unfolds is a story that will keep you wanting more from these characters. I feel like I have new friends in Timber Creek and I can’t wait for the next story to unfold with Cam and her friends. I look forward to reading more from Elena!!! #inlovewithTimberCreek #CamandEvanforever
**I received a free ARC of this book in exchange for my honest review. I don’t know how many books Elena has written but I have read 36 of them. I love her work!!!
I loved this story by Elena Aitken! When We Left is the first book in the Timber Creek Series and a great start to a new series. I’m definitely looking forward to reading more books in this series!
Cam Riley never thought she would be running back to her hometown after leaving so many years ago after being rejected by her high school sweetheart, but finding herself publically humiliated by her husband’s infidelity has her heading to the one place she always considered home.
Local law enforcement officer Evan Anderson is shocked to find out he has pulled over his first love Cam Riley, but now figures he can do everything possible to prove that he has changed and that their love is worth a second chance.
I was given an ARC from the author/publisher. All conclusions are mine and mine alone.
Wow. I was expecting a ‘lighter’ read however Ms. Aitken delivered a thoughtful, deep, and loving story. I’d say When We Left has it all – a cranky teenager (aren’t they all sometimes?), two people who were ‘the’ couple oh so long ago, and a group of friends whose friendship endures years and miles of separation.
Cam Riley comes back home to Timber Creek and runs smack dab into her old flame – and love of her young life – Evan Anderson. Their breakup, which is a simplified term for what happened, truly affected them both in all the years they’ve been apart. When We Left is truly about their story, old and new, and if they can come back together again.
Cam has a teenage daughter who just makes me smile. I mean, you know there will be much angst, because of her age and the situation Cam and Morgan (her daughter) find themselves in, but the journey they take to build a closer mother/daughter relationship is truthful and touching.
And the friends…OMG, talk about shades of high school! I have a funny feeling there is more to come from these friends and I’m looking forward to reading more about how their lives change.
Great new series with lots of heart. Truly felt for both Cam and Evan…and even Morgan. The lives and relationships make for great reading.
A love story with some real-world twists and turns. It was nice to see people be able to recapture a lost love. A good read and I can’t wait to complete the series.
A heart warming story
Good book. An almost divorcee returns to her home town with teen daughter. Amidst trials she renews romance with old boyfriend.
Good characters an good story!
