#1 New York Times bestselling author Susan Mallery masterfully explores the definition of a modern family–blended by surprise, not by choice–and how those complicated relationships can add unexpected richness to life. “Heartwarming…this book is sweet and will appeal to readers who enjoy the intricacies of family drama.”–Publishers Weekly Life is meant to be savored, but that’s not easy … savored, but that’s not easy with no family, limited prospects and a past you’d rather not talk about.
Callie Smith doesn’t know how to feel when she discovers she has a brother and a sister–Malcolm, who grew up with affection, wealth and privilege, and Keira, a streetwise twelve-year-old. Despite her trepidation, she moves into the grand family home with her siblings and grandfather on the shores of Lake Washington, hoping just maybe this will be the start of a whole new life.
But starting over can be messy. Callie and Keira fit in with each other, but not with their posh new lifestyle, leaving Malcolm feeling like the odd man out in his own home. Becoming a family will take patience, humor, a little bit of wine and a whole lot of love. But love isn’t Malcolm’s strong suit…until he learns that an open heart, like the family table, can always make room for more.more
I like Susan Mallery’s books but this one is one of my all-time favorites like in the top five! Loved the story, loved the characters. I didn’t want to put it down.
Another wonderful story by Susan Mallery….definitely one of her very best. Family lost, unknown family found……makes for great reading. Three step-siblings….unknown to each other. Same father who they have never, if ever, met and who was not interested in them. When the eldest (Malcolm) was 12, he and his mother moved into the family home with his family loving paternal grandfather and grew up there knowing he was loved; Keira, age 12, was orphaned when same grandfather found her in the foster system and brought her home; Callie was 26, several years out of serving time in prison and living off the grid when the grandfather found her and moved her into the family home. Each of their stories is so touching and it’s heartwarming how they became made the journey from not knowing the other existed to being very close and a true family.
When We found Home by Susan Mallery describes family so well. We have to learn to trust, be there for each other, communicate, and keep trying when we fail. This book brings a step brother and 2 step sisters together as they try to learn to love and accept each other as adults. Wonderful characters, great, loving parents, and friends who support them.
Malcolm, Keira and Callie are siblings that didn’t know about each other, and until recently had never met. Their trials and tribulations of what they go through kept my attention throughout. This is a heartwarming book that is a real page turner, and I couldn’t put it down.
A very interesting twist in this storyline of 3 half siblings being brought together by their paternal grandfather and how they end up relating not only to each other, but in relationships with friends and significant others. The multi-layered plot lines of the individual siblings and how the storylines intertwined was quite interesting and entertaining.
