Do you remember that moment? That one moment. The one when you changed.People might say it was this or that, but deep down you know. You know exactly what that moment was. Even if you’re not ready to admit it to yourself. You know.I remember mine, it didn’t just change me.It changed everything.Everyone thought Mason Knight would be the whirlwind that swept me away, my unexpected hero in a leather … me away, my unexpected hero in a leather jacket. But no one could’ve seen it coming. That moment woke me up and made me see that when we fall, sometimes we need help to get back up.

When We Fall is the first book in the Rocky Falls series by Olivia Rose. It is also her first book under this pen name. It was previously released under Sloane Murphy. Either way, it’s my first book by this author.
Erin needs to just get through her last year of high school. The last three years have been hard on her. She is bullied by the mean girls and nobody seems to notice, care, or stand up for her. Over the years she has been trying her best to be invisible. Then, he walks in. Mason Knight. The new kid. The mysterious, hot, and intriguing new kid. One that everyone notices and wants a piece of. Except he only seems to want to be friends with her. Which is both good and bad. It makes the bullies see her even more. But it also makes her be seen by a man who makes her feel safe, loved, and desired.
That’s all I am really going to say about that. I will say that the story is important. Bullying is at an all-time high right now with all the technology we have these days. I have only been out of high school for twenty years but so much has changed even since then. Reading Erin’s story just pisses me off and also makes me want to hug and protect our children even more. I was never bullied and was never the bully so I can’t fully relate but I get it.
Overall…I thought it was a good story with importance. I am only giving it a four star because I felt there was just something missing. I do hope in the next book some of my questions will be answered.
Quotes:
“My favorite book, Mr. Perry? Well that’s not a simple choice. The selection is too great,” Mason says with a smile. I can’t tell if he is serious or not.
“If I tell you, then it’s real,” I say softly, touching his forearm. “Then it’s not something I can just brush off.”
“Oh my god, what a goof!”
“Yeah, but it made you laugh, so it was totally worth it. Now then, darlin’, let’s get you to class.”
“Oh, and he brings out the southern drawl. Ladies and gents, lock up your daughters.”
Ya know my favorite part of this book is how the author was able to deal with horrible, but unfortunately, a reality that we deal with, in compassionate and understanding way. She is able to do it with grace and without making light of it. When We Fall is the first book in the Rocky Falls series and also the first book I have read by this author and I promise it won’t be my last.
I am actually really excited to see what lies in store for these characters and I’m so happy more books are coming, because I have some questions still.
I really loved Mason and Erin and they way that they handled all of the craziness of high school together. I definitely recommend that this book be read and soon!

As if navigating your way through high school isn’t heard enough…being bullied constantly makes it a nightmare.
Erin started her life off harder than her peers. She’s being raised by the woman that adopted her after she was abandoned by her parents. She’s been given a good life. She’s a senior and just wants to fly under the radar and head off to college to pursue her dream. However, there always has to be a group of jerks just determined to make someone else’s life hard. Erin was tough, but their treatment of her was cruel.
Mason is the new guy in town. A reformed bad boy who is drawn to Erin from the start. He just wants to be her friend and get to know her. He has his work cut out for him, because Erin has been hurt so many times it’s hard for her not to expect that he has an ulterior motive.
This story takes you through the high school experience. Bullies, unrequited love, loss, pain, fear and heartbreak. It was a story with the unexpected and you may just shed a tear or two. But the human spirit is resilient and strong. Mason and Erin formed an unbreakable bond. They became each other’s strength and in the process they found forever love. I look forward to more in this series.
3.5 stars!
I fell into this book hard and fast when I started reading. It’s hard not to immediately relate to and empathize with Erin. She’s got a pretty complicated backstory, but she’s the target of bullies in high school and the one ‘friend’ she’s got that could be helping her with that doesn’t. Enter Mason – her unlikely ally and new kid in school. This pairing is natural and just what the fairy-tale ordered.
Mason is persistent and just all kinds of swoony, and Erin grows into a very admirable character. I am left with a number of really important questions, and while I hope for them to be answered in the next book in the series I’m not sure I’ll get my wish.
I do want to warn that there’s a BIG trigger that slapped me hard across the face. I genuinely wasn’t expecting this story to go the direction it did. Discussing it is a spoiler of the highest order, but just know that there’s significant violence and if that’s a deal-breaker for you, this story shouldn’t go on your TBR list.
