I’m high on her, flying. Consumed by Colby Harlowe in a way I’ve wanted since that afternoon in Kona. Until tonight, I didn’t believe it would happen. I swore I wouldn’t let it.“What took us so long?” she whispers. Suddenly, I have no idea.COLBY:Orion Walker is many things.Breathtaking. Brooding. A quiet but unstoppable force, drawing me closer.Graphic designer. Single father. One of many who … force, drawing me closer.
Graphic designer. Single father. One of many who lived because my cousin didn’t.
The night she died, I learned an imperative lesson: the need to keep my stupid mouth shut.
People have told me my entire life I’m too blunt—socially inept. Maybe it’s time I listen.
Maybe then I’ll have a shot with the guy who loathed me at first sight.
ORION:
Colby Harlowe has many problems.
Way too blunt. Doesn’t know how to talk to people. Grates my nerves like somebody’s paying her to do it.
But, God—she’s beautiful. Sweet, funny. Brutally honest, a quality I both hate and admire. If it was just me, I’d go after her in one stuttering heartbeat.
But it’s not just me. My daughter is Priority One.
I’m not looking for a girlfriend. I’m looking for London’s new mom. The day we met, I knew that search couldn’t possibly end with Colby.
Then we meet again. And the closer she gets to me, the closer she gets to my kid…or, maybe, the other way around.
She’s not at all what I’m looking for.
Which is exactly why I can’t stay away.

When We Break is a slow-burning standalone romance with an HEA. It’s the final book in the Love in Kona series by Piper Lennox, which can be read in any order.

I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
I really enjoyed reading this book. It’s the third book in the “Love In Kona” series, and the best one, in my opinion. (You do not need to read books one and two to enjoy this one.)
Colby’s cousin, Eden, died tragically young. Eden’s mother, Rochelle, holds a get together for those people who received her daughter’s organs. Colby is at the party, too, but is very uncomfortable. Orion received one of Eden’s kidneys. He attends the party but is quickly overwhelmed by Rochelle’s emotion. Colby rescues him by leading him outside. They spend the remainder of the party walking and talking together. Once back in California where she lives now, Colby is struggling. She decides to change apartments, and is surprised to find that Orion lives there, too. Colby’s biggest flaw is that she is too honest for her own good. She’s blunt and off-putting. Orion’s biggest flaw is his narrow-sighted view of life with his daughter, London. He wants what he doesn’t think he can have – someone who can be both girlfriend and mommy. Can these two meet each other in the middle and make it work?
I liked both Colby and Orion. Colby is trying to change her habit of blurting out the truths in a blunt manner. Orion is selflessly putting hi daughter first, but it leaves his life a little empty. Colby and Orion have great chemistry when they’re together talking with each other. But I did find the brief love scenes a bit lack-luster, though. The secondary characters – Walt, Georgia, Clara, and London – are a hoot. They add a lot to the story. I thought the story was told at a good pace, and the dialogue flowed naturally. This book is gently weaved into the first two books as a nice wrap-up. But not in a way that is confusing if you didn’t read the first two.
As I said, I think this is the best book of the series, and I recommend it and the entire “Love In Kona” series to you. (I received an Advanced Reader Copy and this is my voluntary, honest review.)
I now need to go back and read the first two in this series!!
Colby moved to California hoping for a better life than what she had back in Kona. When tragedy strikes and she loses her only friend her life takes a turn she wasn’t expecting. A year after her cousins death she is back in Kona at her mothers request for a gathering. It’s there where she is reunited with someone she met a year ago at work.
Orion is in Kona to attend a gathering for a young woman’s organ recipients. Shortly after arriving he starts to have a panic attack and steps outside to calm down. It’s here that Colby walks up to him and starts talking to him. When he finally figures out just who she is he can’t help but be drawn to her, he just didn’t how much his life would be flipped upside down.
I can completely understand Orion’s feelings in this book. Actually I can relate to some of it as if this was a story about my life. I would love to see more of Orion and Colby, to see how they grow together and with London.
