Interesting premise. Water in the Southwest and Southern California is going to run dry much faster than the models have indicated. The governors of California, Arizona and Nevada, along with the president, come up with a plan to tap Canada’s vast lakes in the Northern Territory.
To avoid a financial panic, this must be done in absolute secrecy. Anyone not in the core group of insiders is a target for murder to keep them quiet.
Book is okay, but not great. Fast moving.
Too much description of the areas of the US Southwest and Canada, and not enough action.
Great story but the author was scattered. I had a really rough time determining which story line we were following at any given time.
The theory behind the story is sound; I used to work for USGS and declining acquires in the US Great Plains is a fact. Thus the scenario and the politics appear dead on….
A thought provoking novel!
Enjoyed the book . Politics, ecology and romance were all included.
Timely topic…recent press has addressed the drought contingency plan agreed to by multiple states/water providers, through ~2026. So this concept of a cross international boundary is entertaining a d perhaps a foreshadowing of a not so far fetched future scenario.
Some of the chapters seemed temporally misplaced to me. That was a minor distraction. Also, some story line twists were abrupt, and a bit difficult to connect. That said, overall the book was entertaining.
Very real and suspenseful story is too close to reality
Thought provoking as this could happen o
In the southwest.
Good Read
Change of location and characters confusing at first but once getting into the book and oriented couldn’t put it down.
Really makes you think about water issues! Frightening, well written tale!
good concept scary
Interesting book if you’re in the water field and even if you’re not in the water field.
Interesting and thought provoking
Very well written, kept you wanting to read more.
Very likely to happen!
Scary picture of what politicians will do to protect their reelection status, especially during an epic crisis. The book is a cautionary tale–not so original and not told by a great storyteller, but it certainly makes you stop and think about what the general public is told, as opposed to reality.
Wikipedia plus a few characters thrown in for good measure
Water wars will be on us before we know it. This is about politicians and corruptions which gives the story the realistic twist. Unfortunately the citizens are simply pawns. Good read!
