A MOST INDECENT PROPOSAL Annabelle Green needs a husband-and quickly. To inherit the only home she’s ever known, she must be married by her twenty-fifth birthday. But finding a suitor has been next to impossible after a reckless rogue named Quinton Carlisle seduced her into a scandalous midnight tryst. Her reputation in ruins, Belle now needs a rather large favor. And she knows just who to turn … And she knows just who to turn to . . .
Quinn can hardly believe that the shy bookish girl he teased as a child has grown into such a brazen beauty. The very idea of marrying Belle to right the wrongs of his past is downright shocking . . . and deliciously tempting. Too bad marriage, convenient or otherwise, is the last thing Quinn wants. He’ll help Belle find a husband and be on his way. But if he can’t control his attraction to the bride-to-be, this marriage could go up in flames-of wicked desire.
Capturing the CarlislesIf the Duke DemandsWhen the Scoundrel SinsAs the Devil Daresmore
Harrington’s excellent writing coupled with sizzling chemistry and a bit of humor make for a great read – even while you want to shake both the hero and heroine until their teeth rattle.
Our heroine is Annabelle Green. Her father is a convicted thief and her mother was a housekeeper. She knew brutality and deprivation before her mother passed away and she became the ‘ward’ of Lord and Lady Ainsley when she was still very young. You’ll find out how that came about toward the end of the book. She was raised as a lady – except she wasn’t one. Lord and Lady Ainsley decided she should have a London season and hoped for a great match and they couldn’t understand why she was basically shunned. Well DUH! She was the low-born daughter of a thief – what did they expect. So, of course, there was a scandal at her very first ball. It wasn’t her fault – but it was a scandal nonetheless. In order to protect her, Lord Ainsley left the estate she had always lived on to her in his will – but she had to marry by her 25th birthday in order to inherit. Annabelle doesn’t want to marry but the will seems to be unbreakable, so it is either marry or lose the home she loves.
Quinn Carlisle is the third son of a Duke and his parents were a love match. He has vowed to never fall in love because he saw how his mother suffered after his father died in an accident. I do have to say that Quinn is not my favorite hero. I thought he came across as very selfish, self-centered and uncaring. Quinn doesn’t see any way he can stand on his own and be respected for who he is and what he has accomplished without leaving England, so he is on his way to America. He has totally forgotten that he caused the scandal that ruined Annabelle – and never even saw it as his fault (see selfish, self-centered and uncaring comment above).
Lady Ainsley has raised Annabelle since she was a small child and loves her like a daughter. Quinn is Lady Ainsley’s nephew, so he and Annabelle were around each other a lot as children. Lady Ainsley decides that Quinn needs to help find Annabelle a husband before her birthday since he is the one who caused the scandal in the first place.
I hope you will give this book a try. I think you’ll like it – even though you’ll want to give both the hero and heroine a good spanking before you are through reading it. That is just the mark of a writer and plot that pulls you into the story – if they weren’t good, you wouldn’t feel anything.
“I requested and received this book at no cost to me and volunteered to read it; my review is my honest opinion and given without any influence by the author or publisher.”
Ms. Harrington has mastered the art of seduction. She tempts by revealing the story in phases. A little back history here, a bit of romance there and a whole lot of heat is on the way. When the Scoundrel Sins is the latest of her flirty, feel good Carlisle series. A scandal has ruined any chances of Annabelle finding a match. Can a marriage of convenience give her the happily ever after she secretly craves? He means to run, she aims to give chase. What starts as a convenient arrangement becomes the stuff of fairy tales. By stories end a good time is had by all.
Annabelle Green, Ladies companion, has a scandalous situation occur during her debut year in society. Lord and Lady Ainsley were hoping for the best for Belle but it was not to be. Six years later she is in need of a husband or she will lose the property bequeathed to her by Lord Ainsley BUT only if she marries by her 25th birthday. Her dream is to own and run the estate without the encumbrance of a husband but that is not in the cards. Into this situation steps Quinton Carlisle – the person she was caught with at the ball six years before. He arrives at Lady Ainsley’s request and is asked by her to help vet men wanting to marry Belle. His plans to go to America are put on hold until the best possible future for Belle is determined. This is a fun story with an eventual HEA. I found Belle and Quinn were well suited for one another but at times wanted to tell them to do or say something that didn’t seem to come to mind on their parts. I have not read the first book in this series but as this is a standalone story had no trouble reading and enjoying it. I am interested in reading Robert’s story next and if I find Sebastian’s, book one, will read it, too.
Thank you to the author, NetGalley and Grand Central Publishing for the ARC – This is my honest review.
I didn’t read the first book in the series, but it didn’t dampen my enjoyment for this book. I loved Annabelle and Quinton–both of them stubborn, sassy and tantalizingly attracted to each other. Belle Green hasn’t seen Quinton Carlisle in 6 years, not since the night he ruined her. She has retreated to the borderlands with Lady Ainsley and devotes herself to managing the estate of the late Lord Ainsley. If she wants to keep the estate, she’ll have to marry and in a hurry before her 25th birthday. When Quentin shows up to help her search for a husband, the sparks fly between them.
I really enjoyed the witty banter between these two although Quinn is a bit of a cad for not acknowledging his part in her ruin all those years ago. I did figure out the villain in the story early on, but there is a great twist that I didn’t see coming. Ms. Harrington writes well and her descriptions of the surrounding countryside brought the scene to life. As with most romance novels, the hero is slow to realize what he really wants. Fans of Regency romance who would like to see the story leave the stuffy ballrooms will definitely enjoy this one.
I received a copy of this book in exchange for a fair and honest review.
“-And you, Quinton? Do you enjoy the sport of hunting ?
-It doesn’t seem like much of a sport to me unless the animals are also armed.”
The romance in this book is sweet and addictive. I just couldn’t put it down and I can’t wait for what Anna will have in store for us next.
*I received an ARC copy from Netgalley which i chose to voluntarily write an honest review for. Expected publication date is August 29, 2017.
Book two in the Capturing the Carlisles series. This book was just as good as the first one only this time we get to follow the youngest brother instead of the oldest. Annabelle was ruined in society about six years before by Quinn when a situation went wonky making things happen that was never intended. Now Annabelle has to be married by her 25th birthday or lose her inheritance. This prompts her family to invite Quinn to visit with the excuse that a male chaperone is needed as she searching for a husband amongst the treasure hunters. What neither of them know is that they were thrown together on purpose in an effort for them to realize that they really love each other before her birthday and he thinks he is moving to America. Harrington has done it again with this excellent romance novel. I found myself hooked from the first page and unable to truly stop until I was done. The details are accurate, the conversation is witty, the romance has enough ups and downs to keep me hooked, and it was impossible to not fall in love with all of the characters. The more books of hers I read the more I love her so I highly recommend this book to fans of historical romance. I really enjoyed so it gets 4/5 stars.
I really loved this book and I already can’t wait for the next book. The book is about Annabelle Green and she needs a husband fast to be able to inherit her home. But their is a problem when Quinton Carlisle seduced her into a scandalous tryst. I hope everyone one enjoys it as much as I did.
When The Scoundrel Sins by Anna Harrington is book #2 in the Capturing the Carlisles series. It can totally be read as a standalone book. Book is very well written, has a good storyline and complex characters. I found myself feeling sympathetic and frustrated by the characters. Annabelle Green is likable, strong and a survivor. Her one true weakness is Quinton Carlisle. Unfortunately, this means that she is not as strong, smart or even as likable when around him. Quinn is an egotistical, self centered and a rake. Even though I loved the whole childhood antagonism, that turns into an adult antagonism that cloaks affection and attraction between these characters. It was hard to move past Quinn’s true lack of accepting and owning the ramifications of his actions and needling words over the course of their relationship from childhood to adult. I did enjoy this book and it is a good read and addition to this series. But, in my heart even with a HEA I felt that Annabelle and Quinn deserved more. More of an understanding of one another, more dealing with the baggage of the past to ensure a bright love filled future and more genuine love and affection, not just attraction and chemistry . I am posting an honest review after reading an ARC copy of this book
loved it!!!
What’s not to like, Anna Harrington did it again. This is the story of scandal, mystery, and love all confused but clear, that love can hurt, but is so worth every moment.
When the Scoundrel Sins by Anna Harri gton is a delightful Regency Romance. Book 2 in her exhilarating “Capturing the Carlisles” series, but it can be read as a stsnd alone.
First off, I was glued to the pages of this steady paced, well written tale of love, romance, family, and finding a HEA.
This is the adventure of Quinn Carlisle and Annabelle Greene, (Belle). In order to save Belle’s beloved Scottish home, on the border of Scotland, she must find an ally…..who comes to mind….her old childhood friend, Quinn.
I so enjoy Anna Harrington’s writing style, it flows seamlessly and effortlessly, with grace, and emotions.
Book 2 is even better than Book 1, to me, and I loved Book 1. There was something about Belle and Quinn that draws you into the story and keeps you turning pages. An absolute delight to read with a few laugh out loud moments, a few surprises and of course, the added bonus of passion and chemistry, that creates a delightful tale.
If you enjoy Regency Romance, you will wish to pick up WHEN A SCOUNDREL SINS, for your next adventure. Another fantastic read by Anna Harrington! Can’t wait for the next adventure.
I received a complimentary copy, however, all opinions are my own.
