When the Standing Ones sent us on a journey to explore the darkness far from the sun’s light, I never expected to find monsters there.Like something out of the scary tales my son so loved, they captured us while I slumbered.I woke with my crew, locked away in a cold thundercloud colored cage. The others looked to me for escape but all my plans had ended in failure and pain, so much pain.At the … plans had ended in failure and pain, so much pain.
At the same time, the monsters began to take them away one by one.
Pushing past those failures and the pain, I plotted my escape, I was born problem solver after all.
I needed to warn my people of what awaited us among the stars and to see my boy again.
To do so, I’d have to discover more about these monsters and their ways, revolting as that seemed.

When The Monsters Come by Kennedy King is a great story to read. I do not read mant Sci-Fi stories but this one I really enjoyed reading alot. I recommend this story to everyone who likes reading thrillers, Sci-Fi and horros.

This story is an interesting concept of a world building, told from an alien(for us humans) point of view. It has been an intense fight for survival short story. That aliens and humans have the same instincts, and what we’d call human emotions are deftly interpreted and defined. That good and evil exists in every species. The protagonist, the only survival, a struggling, full of fear and resilient being, she does everything in her power to break free from her captors. The ending is surprising, full of hope. It had a promise of a good series, if the author decides to go for a sequel!
This book is a thought-provoking short story. It’s a quick read and so easily read over a cuppa. It’s well written and obviously well plotted. Looking forward to reading more by this author in the future.

I love monster stories and I love sci-fi! I love this story. This story is well-written and even without intricate details about the lifeform that makes up the main character, that character is very likable. I was pulled into the story immediately and read this in one sitting. It is a quick read but so much the better for how talented the author is. I hope there are more stories like this from the author.

An easy, short read that gives away the twist early on, that our protagonist is not a human after all. Whether this is intentional or not, one will have to ask the author, Kennedy King. We know that he is obviously a sentient being with enhanced senses, who after his capture, knows he had to get “home” to his son. He will do almost anything to achieve this aim, except resort to killing, even though he knows that his fellow crew members have been slaughtered for “scientific study”. Think of all the animals that we humans have killed, maimed and tortured, all in the name for scientific testing and the reader will feel emotions, and an affinity for our alien hero.
The message in this story, well told here, is that you do not have to be human to have humanity. The humans here are the monsters. Killing in the name of science.
I’m hoping that there will be more to this tale as I would indeed be putting my hand up to read on.
A good four star quick read that promises more.
This story is told from the perspective of an advanced plant based creature who was taken captive along with his crew by an animal based creature while on an interstellar mission. It is this perspective that adds horror to the story. There are a few good twists in the story and it ends on a positive note.
Overall an entertaining short read. The sentient mobile plant species was interesting as that is not something I’ve encountered often in other books.
Being a different take on a familiar theme,
this story kept me reading right through to
the last page.
I figured out part, but not all, of the mystery
before the end of the story.
Can you do better ?
Enjoy !!

When the monsters come
by Spokies
Be careful whom you call a monster! A book with a gripping beginning and a few twists. It took me a while to figure out who the monsters were, but confirmation only came almost at the end. This book makes the reader take a deep look at humanity and what is regarded as civilized. The setting free of the protagonist leaves the idea that not all humans are bad and that there is hope for humanity. My only complaint is that I could not figure out as to what or whom our protagonist is. A quick but good read and highly recommended especially for those who like “spooky” and “scary” stories.

PG13 (to prevent nightmares) this is a captivating short monster story that takes only a couple hours even with interruptions.
