HOLY. MOTHER. OF. BEAU. What an amazing read!!! I absolutely adored this book. I was very curious all throughout The Blackest Gold Series about Beau’s story and am so excited we now have his story. Lex and Beau’s relationship is definitely one of my favorites out there. They prove that love is the strongest thing out there. There’s excellent character development and growth. We get to see new and wonderful sides of our characters. There’s a definite rollercoaster of emotions. My heart was bruised, but then healed beautifully. The writing was absolutely PHENOMENAL… I actually felt like I was in the story with the characters. I HIGHLY recommend this book!
She seriously nailed it with this one. Wow!! Just Wow!!
It’s 1am here & I am going to sleep with a big dopey smile on my face. So much pain, raw emotion, heat, heartbreak and love in one story.
You know when an author creates a world so vivid, she gives you pictures of the characters and their lives in such a way that you feel you know them. Well that is what R Scarlett did with this story. I loved her writing in the Blackest Gold series, but this book, it cements her as a one click author for me.
Beau has jumped into my top BBFs ever. He is so beautifully broken that you can’t help but love him. We met him in the Blackest Gold stories but we really get to see the real Beau in this story. He has a tragic past and thinks that all he has left is his darkness. He is more. So much more. Not to mention he’s so hot and his dirty talk so perfect that I am getting into arguments with my book babes over him. He’s mine dammit!!!!
I see you as a temptation. A sinner’s elixir.
Cucciolo
Lex is a fighter. A survivor. The kind of girl the world beats the crap out of & she just keeps going. Loyal, fierce and darkly passionate she is the kind of strong female character I love. There’s more to our little Lex than meets the eye.
Tell me how I make you feel
Like an angel about to sin … but I’m no angel
The two of them together – Gah!! Their chemistry is off the charts. Add in the whole incubus, soul eater aspect & it’s one word – kaboom
Five extraordinary stars for Beau and Lex’s story! This is an enticing book that will consume your soul in a twisted & delicious way!
Pour tout ce qui est sacré, ce livre a consumé mon âme de la meilleure façon possible. When Sinners kneel by R. Scarlett is an addictive and intense book that has left me breathless and speechless because each word and each chapter sang to my starved soul. It was like this book was written specially for me.
If I tough that Tensley was the best male character R. Scarlett has created, I was oh so wrong! Beau is something else. With this book R. Scarlett has become the “Queen of the Paranormal Romance” Her writing is improving spectacularly fast. It is brilliantly elegant, beautiful and addictive. Once you start reading her books, you won’t be able to stop. You will crave her writing, like and addict bookworm because she is a talented and gifted author. Mark my words: “This book is a best seller waiting to happen.”
All about this book is pure perfection. The plot is a breath of fresh air; it is unique and original. The pace is fast and when you least imagine, you have already finished the book. This is the kind of story that will twist your insides in the best ways possible and will leave you wanting more.
Lust, sex, remorse, blood and hope are some of the main topics of this book. R. Scarlett has created the best Paranormal World where demons can’t love, they destroy. The characters of this book are strongly damaged but in their damage they belong to each other. Beau and Alex are toxic but their souls are linked by something strong and deep.
Beau is HAF! He is darkness. The man he was is not longer inside him. Losing his heart made him a cruel and vicious beast. His past marked his soul and his demons don’t leave him alone. He lost everything but in the darkness he found a way to release all the rage that consumes his soul. He is toxic and poisonous. He doesn’t feel. He takes. He uses. Feelings and emotions are not in his vocabulary. Beau is a fallen knight, a sinner. He is forbidden and so dangerous. He is the beast no one dares to tame. Nevertheless a young soul eater will lit a fire inside him and if he is not carefully that tiny fire will become a bonfire which will consume his growing heart.
Alexandra (Yay! This is the first time that one of my favourite heroines has my name) is a young soul eater that has gone through a lot. Everyone has abandoned her. She was all alone since she was a kid. Tensley save her. He and his family protected her. Being a low class demon is hard enough to keep surviving. Her chances were null to survive without protection. She is naive but at the same time she is strong. She will tempt the beast. Her soul will crave Beau’s souls like an addict. Beau’s toxic darkness will tease her. Because of her, the beast will be tamed.
I highly recommend you this book. Five stars are not enough to rate this book. Beau and Lex deserves millions of stars. This book will literally blow your mind.
Tensely who?
That’s right. I said it. Beau Knight has blown a certain Dux out of the fan girl water for me. Ok I admit I still have a soft spot for Tens, let’s be real here he’s the OG Beast, but Christ Beau has swooned me the heck over. I’m sorry but any man who has lived years and years with his heart ripped out, but still somehow manages to be a swoon-y fella to a broken girl who wants to be strong… sold. I am sold and done for. Beau Knight is my new favorite broody book boyfriend, and if you don’t read this book and find out why, then you are missing the heck out.
I love that both of these characters are broken, and damaged, but in each other they find wholeness. Lex and Beau are EVERY DANG THING. Their story is not easy, nor is it simple, but it’s theirs and I LOVED it.
All I can say is… I’m ready for whatever comes next in this world R. Scarlett has created!
YOU.NEED.THIS.BOOK!
Loved, loved, loved Beau and Lex! We meet them in the Blackest Gold Series, but you will have no trouble following their fabulous story from beginning to end. Even so, I’m willing to bet that once you’re done with Beau and Lex you’ll want to circle back with the Blackest Gold Series to experience more of this juicy world of demons, danger and lust.
Beau has a tragic past, but is hell bent on not letting go of those heartbreaking events that keep him in his world of darkness. He thinks he doesn’t deserve to live a full life outside all this chaos and destruction, but that can’t be further from the truth. Beau may be a beast, but there is no shortage of swooning when it comes to this sexy demon. It is absolutely panty melting to experience his sweet and tender side one minute, and the dirty talking alpha male the next. Let’s not forget how he calls Lex, “Alexandra” when he talks to her. I can hear that sexy, swoony voice in my head and it makes my heart go pitter patter. Holy hell my ovaries didn’t stand a chance
My heart literally broke for Lex. No matter how tough life was for her, she was a fighter and kept pushing to make things better for herself. It wasn’t easy, but she didn’t let that define who she was as a person on the inside. She was the definition of a survivor. She was so loyal and loving despite her tragic past, she had a heart of gold and always looked out for the ones she cared about. Lex truly was selfless and I admired her more because of it. The connection that Beau and Lex shared jumps off the pages and you feel it in your heart every step of the way. Their journey was not an easy one, but one worth fighting for. The mystery, the suspense, the heat, the angst, this story has it all.
R. Scarlett is a new to me author and I’m SO happy that I dove back into the PNR book genre with her words. Her writing is engaging and easily pulls you into this mysterious world. THANK YOU to one of my best book girls for recommending I read this, you know who you are. I just finished this book, but I’m already clamoring for what’s next.
I would kneel any day of the week for Beau and twice on Sunday! I’m guessing you will too. But if you don’t, that’s okay because I’ll take him!
Sinful Stars!!
“In the darkness, in the chaos, we found comfort in each other. And we solidified our addictions for each other.”
Throughout Tensley and Molly’s story in the Blackest Gold series we get to read a little about the “heartless beast” Incubi Beau and our blue eyed SoulEater Lex.
You’re left wanting to know more about them. This book did not disappoint!
Beau and Alexandra are one in the same. They share the same tainted and broken soul.
Beau from his heart being removed after falling for a human, and Lex from her abandoned past and then later overcoming her torturous captors.
It was a beautiful story about overcoming your past and fears that have held you back from the beat life could give you. About trusting another person when you’ve been left alone without having anyone in your corner.
“She made me feel like a dangerous man. I was corrupting her, and I couldn’t stop now. I needed to escape and she was offering to be just that, my escape. I would worship her, I would give her a high she had never experienced before.”
“I’ll spend the rest of my life sinning if it means I have you, you make me this sinner want to kneel for you.”
Even if you’re not big into PNR you should really give this book a shot. It will be soooo worth it!
One Click and enjoy the sexy and dangerous world of Beau and his cucciolo.
1/2 STARS
So this is my first book by R. Scarlett and I’m definitely an instant fan, loved When Sinners Kneel like so much.
I will definitely be reading her other books.
So this is set in the Blackest Gold world and if you’ve read these books you’ll understand, if not I will give you a little rundown into the scene here.
So Demons inhabit this world mixing amongst the Humans.
There are rules they have to live and abide by and there is also a hierarchy in place among them.
So “When Sinners Kneel,” tells the story of Beau Knight, Incubus and the disgraced knight brother who has fallen far from grace and currently spends a great deal of his time at the pit, in the ring fighting.
And also Lex Harvey, Friend to Beau’s brother and a Souleater demon, who ventures there to try and locate her missing friend last known whereabouts The Pitt.
So much to Beau’s disgust, after he rescues Lex and returns her to his brother she then takes a job to investigate her friend’s disappearance putting the two in close proximity to each other.
So as I said earlier I adored this and literally devoured every word.
This was so imaginative and the world so well thought out it didn’t take me long to lose myself here.
Both main characters were fascinating and so very likeable just in different fashions.
Lex, I felt for her she may have been only eighteen in years but in life experience and wisdom she was aeons.
She’d had such a shitty break-in life and she was a bundle of contradictions able to take care of herself on the one hand but at the same time wanted someone to also take the time to care and not to leave her as had been happening all of her life.
Beau or Savage as he goes by at the Pitt.
Has been in a dark place for a while and with Lex’s introduction into his space things start to seriously look up for him.
Though his soul is still damaged and dark from his past Lex seems to lighten things for him.
Two polar opposites on paper, who have much more in common than they thought.
So, There were some interesting secondary characters here, not many this was a bit light overall on them, but there were some to pep things up a bit.
This also wasn’t that hot on the spice level, if I’m honest I would have liked a bit more in this department, just a tad, after all, Beau was an incubus so I would have liked him to deliver.
What else, Well this also wasn’t major angsty, but there was still plenty of action and thrills to keep me captivated and invested as a reader.
So this actually would have been a full five stars for me my only small niggles were.
The lack of explanation over if Beau had O/W when they were apart after all he was a sex demon and also the break, I wasn’t a huge fan of this either.
Only small niggles and this probably wouldn’t be an issue for most, I still found this to be a fantastic read that I can’t recommend enough.
I was provided with an ARC of “When Sinners Kneel (Blackest Gold World #1)” By the author of which I have reviewed voluntary.
All opinions expressed are entirely my own.
” I wanted to save him, I wanted to take away all the pain and save his soul. Even if it damned my own. Because I loved him, unapologetically, uncivilized as it was, as wrong as it was to love a beast, to love a demon in our world. My soul would save his.”
Beau and Lex were brought to life by this Author’s amazing ability to write so poetically, yet sinfully explicit that you are lit on fire from within from the sheer intensity of it. There was not a point in this book where I was not completely engrossed and devouring each and every word. It’s a magical feeling to pull so many emotions from the written word, and this Author has that gift. I was transfixed by the monster that Beau was made out to be in the first three books of the series, and getting his story was like providing oxygen!! He was darkly addictive, powerfully hypnotic, and just mesmerized me at every turn. Rough edged and gritty, he had my stomach jumping around and fanning myself constantly.
“I’d kneel. For her, I would. I’d worship her. She’d make a sinner kneel.”
The transformation was unreal…for both characters actually. The monster heeled somewhat, and Lex found her teeth, so watching them both evolve as the relationship deepened was enough to strike up some major palpitations!! Whew… It was the kind of story that settles in your pores and won’t let you go for a long time. I finished with a feeling of euphoria that only an amazing romance can provide and this was it. An absolute must read!!
“She had made me sin, she had been my sin and I had knelt for her. I would spend the rest of my life kneeling, protecting and caring for her. She was my souleater, my heart, my everything.”
~~~Erika, Book Haven Book Blog
“I’d kneel. For her, I would. I’d worship her. She’d make a sinner kneel.”
5 ++++ sinners stars for this incredible journey of love, redemption, forgiveness, sexual tension, action and pain.
How to describe and do justice to this incredible story in these few lines, the truth is I cannot do it, but this book definitely entered on my top ten of all time. This story led me to a roller coaster of emotions that still cause a lump in my throat. A unique story, painful and tender.
Beau and Lex are characters with a painful past and a lot of luggage, they carry pain and suffering, and they do not feel worthy of love.
Lex is a souleater, friend of Tensley but also, we see her remember the tortures she suffered at the hands of the hunters.
Beau feels terrible guilt, and that has made him become more beast than man, a bloodthirsty beast, revenge and wrapped in darkness, because that’s what he thinks he deserves.
“There was nothing soft about Beau Knight. He was all hard ridges and edges and that black heart? It was pure darkness.”
Lex arrives at the Pit to find out about her friend Dolores, who is missing and there she finds Beau, she begins to work there and they begin to relate, both are attracted to each other, and feel a powerful connection.
“His soul sung to mine— two damaged souls aching for another to soothe our darkness.”
But Beau is a toxic being, too dark and carries too much guilt with him, and Lex does not feel worthy of a demon because she is low class. But despite everything, they cannot contain the attraction they feel and soon start a relationship. Those scenes between them are just perfect, they made me sigh, blush, and I got goosebumps when I remember them.
“Alexandra Harvey was in my blood, inked into every fiber of my being, into the shell of my bones, and the longer I watched her, cloaked in the warm darkness so deceiving one could easily drown, the more I wanted to feed her my poison.”
I loved the scenes between both protagonists, as they struggle not to give in to what they feel, the tension between them is almost palpable through the pages, and as the story unfolds and with the magic that the author creates through the pages, we see that both are perfect for each other, that one is the cure of the other and that together they can heal. I cried so much through some scenes, I wanted to enter the book and embrace them both and accompany them in their pain, the author with her unique prose and impeccable writing makes you feel all the feelings of the protagonists.
“I wanted to tear them off and slide in deep and slow, torturing her, showing her how good I’d make her feel for days, months, years to come. I’d worship her, body and mind. She wants to heal your soul.”
I also loved knowing about Tensley and Molly, and how Beau improved his relationship with his brother.
The plot is very well developed, has a perfect rhythm and keeps you hooked from the first moment. A story that makes you feel so many emotions at the same time, that keeps you entertained and on the edge of the seat, is simply a masterpiece.
If you like PRN stories, you will not want to miss this, it’s a unique demon story, but it’s also a story of two lost and suffering souls, who find their soul mate through pain and suffering, who find forgiveness and redemption to feel again worthy of love.
“Our souls touched, Alexandra. I’m addicted to you. Not just because you’re fucking beautiful or because you’re a souleater. I’m addicted to your heart. Your love.”
OMG…this novel was excellent. When Sinners Kneel was paranormal at its best with demons, incubus, & soul-eaters included. This was my first book by R. Scarlett and I was totally blown away. The storyline was gripping, the writing was descriptive, the characters were all so well developed and complex.
This novel had me captivated from the start and I was hooked from page one. It is a romance that will touch your heart but it was so much more than just romance. The story is dark, fast-paced, gruesome, steamy and well-written. It was angsty at times and had you at the edge of your seat.
You will love Beau and Lex. From the start you could feel their chemistry which was so intense and sizzling. Told in dual point of view they will impress you and you will enjoy going on this dark journey with them.
This page turner was a phenomenal read. Definitely worthy of more than 5 stars, I would highly recommend it.
Holy heck……if you thought Tensley Knight was a sexy beast, just wait until you get your hands on his brother Beau. Hot damn, he is sooooooo delicious. I just couldn’t get enough of him!!
And Lex…….what can I say about her? She’s such a strong, independent, loyal young woman, who is just trying to move forward with her life, even though events from her past continue to haunt her.
Then…..she meets Beau and sparks instantly fly between them. Regardless of age or class, their souls just connected with one another and wouldn’t let go, no matter how hard they fought it.
This was such an incredible story and I wish I could stay in their world just a little longer!
I bow down to you R. Scarlett. Thank you for creating this extraordinary and intoxicating world – Blackest Gold. Before reading the Blackest Gold series I hadn’t read a PNR in a year cause I’m very picky and selective about my books in that genre. Well, R. Scarlett changed that for me. I didn’t think it was possible to top Molly and Tensley but she did with Beau and Lex.
There’s no comparing the two although I couldn’t help it times but they’re very different and I absolutely loved that. Wow, my savage and heartless Beau. You made me hurt and swoon with your love and care for Lex and your family. Lex, you strong and feisty soul eater. My admiration only grew throughout the story. She was Beau’s redeemer although he had to do all the hard work to get there.
Their story was dark, gritty and so emotional. The pace of the story spot on cause I couldn’t and wouldn’t put the book down. Their chemistry sizzling and palpable. I loved the conflict near the end cause I didn’t see it coming and how Scarlett executed it only made my experience of this book more valuable.
R. Scarlett’s prose has to be mentioned cause it’s absolutely stunning and it’s something I immediately noticed while reading Vein of Love. Now with her fifth book When Sinners Kneel it’s more poignant and flawless. She’s my Queen of PNR.
“I have sinned,” he whispered, his mouth moving against my fingers as I ghosted them over his pouty lips. “A thousand times I have sinned. But this sin–this sin between us, Alexandra, is the only sin I ever committed for the right reasons.” His dark eyes gleamed in the night, so soft and alluring it tugged at my heart. “I’ll spend the rest of my life sinning if it means I have you, you make this sinner want to kneel for you.”
GAH! I LOVED THIS BOOK! It’s been YEARS since I’ve read a paranormal romance (and I’ve never read a dark paranormal romance before), but the minute I read the blurb for WHEN SINNERS KNEEL, I KNEW I had to give R.Scarlett a chance! I HAD to read it and meet the mysterious demon, Beau and his soul-eating woman, Alexandra “Lex”. And man am I glad I did! WSK was packed full of all the things I love as a reader: mystery, emotion, danger, love, hope and TONS of s*xual tension *fans self* . And the writing was spellbinding and completely captivating from the beginning to end.
WSK was about finding forgiveness for yourself. Forgiveness for the sins that taint your soul because if you can’t forgive yourself, how can you ever let others in? How can you live with constantly guilt and pain from sins of the past? You have to let it go in order to heal, in order to let love in and to allow yourself to love others. Beau (and Lex) learn how to conquer this in WSK.
This was my first novel by R.Scarlett and I WILL be reading more! She definitely has a new fangirl. #FollowsAuthorEverythingOnSocialMedia *wink* If you’re interested in giving paranormal romance a try, DO SO WITH THIS BOOK! You will LOVE Beau and Lex, believe me!
“…your soul sings to mine. Always has. It called to me in the darkness and it calls to me in the light.” -Beau
10 stars!
*Note: I’ve seen some reviewers say that we first meet Beau and some of the other characters in WSK, in another series of R.Scarlett’s (BLACKEST GOLD), but I want to let you know that at NO point during reading this, did I feel I HAD to read those other books to understand this book. BUT I am definitely intrigued in reading that other series now!
A beautiful story about coming back from the dark. Beau and Lex are so tragic together, you can’t help but think that they will never truly rise from the darkness. But R. Scarlett is so good at weaving through the cracks of light that break in and healing all our wounds.
When Sinners Kneel is set in a dark underground world, that sometimes it was tough to navigate. But you have to have faith and believe that she will help you through the other side.
“I’d kneel. For her, I would. I’d worship her. She’d make a sinner kneel.” Beau Knight
Unequivocally one of the best paranormal reads I have had the pleasure of drowning in in quite a while – Quite literally an all-consuming read
Beau and Lex are such an alluring yet toxic combination
Two beautifully broken souls brought together – a combustible and forbidden love
Lex sort of wormed her way into my heart – a stubborn little soul-eater
Beau — what do you say about a demon who literally gave his heart for the woman he loved?
The characters were exquisite in their depth -main and supporting
The world building is detailed and enchanting – a new twist for me on a demon-human universe
I purchased this book on a whim – it was on sale
I did not know it was part of a series that I had been missing out on – and I have definitely been missing out – purchased the whole series and I can not wait to get to know the Scorpios
When Sinners Kneel is a spin-off of the Blackest Gold series. The previous series does not have to be read, but in my opinion, reading these books in order is slightly more satisfying.
Beau Knight was destined to be the leader of Scorpios. But he lost his position and heart when he fell in love with a human.
Living in darkness, he ruled the low-class demons. He was still involved with the family business, but to control his beast, he needed to fight other demons at The Pit.
Lex is a low-class demon looking for her missing friend. The last place her friend was seen was the place where Beau fought every night. Her dangerous investigation leads her to a dark path, and Beau can’t help being protective over Lex.
The entire book is full of chemistry as Beau and Lex are constantly craving each other. A dark incubus and a sexy soul eater. Obviously this story is indeed steamy due to the types of demons the characters are.
Overall I really enjoyed the book, but I was hoping for something more balanced than just the constant attraction. Other than that, I can’t wait for R. Scarlett’s next book.
Before I started When Sinners Kneel, I binge read R. Scarlett’s entire Blackest Gold series in under a week! Although it’s not necessary to read them to understand WSK, I highly recommend doing so! You get so much back story and who wouldn’t want more Beau! WIN-WIN! R. Scarlett’s words and talent grow exponentially with every novel! I’m in awe of her magical words! I wish I could live inside her universes they are that stunning!
I didn’t think it was going to be possible to top Tensley (aka my favorite dirty talking demon), but Beau surpassed every expectation.. and then some! He. Is. EVERYTHING! He is so sexy and addicting and I wish he would devour me! Lex is one lucky soul eater! You can’t help but fall in love with Lex too! She is one strong, feisty survivor! Put the two of them together??? Their sexual tension and chemistry is off the charts!!! I loved their push and pull story and would not change a thing! Perfection!!
This entire series is quickly becoming one of my all time favorites and I can’t wait to read the next installment!!!
~WRITING – PLOT – PACE~
So I’ll be honest I am a little unsure of how I want to rate this book. I enjoyed it immensely that is for sure. The writing was fan-f-cking-tastic. The pace was perfect. The plot was thoroughly engaging and had hooked from the first page. That said, there were a few things that niggled me a little. I also would have liked a bit more in the sex department. Honestly, though, those were just small little issues that didn’t deter THAT much from my enjoyment of the story overall.
~HERO~
BEAU…I pretty much loved him. He was sexy. He was alpha. He was damaged. He was tortured. He was bada$$. I didn’t particularly care for the decision he made near the end, but overall he was a good hero.
~HEROINE~
LEX…I ADORED her character. She was strong. She was a fighter. She was feisty. She was bada$$. She was a great friend. She wore her heart on her sleeve. My heart broke for her many a time and I thought she should have made Beau grovel WAY more before she let him back into her life again
~SECONDARY CHARACTERS~
Honestly, there wasn’t a TON of secondary characters in this one. I was intrigued by Dolores. Tensley and Molly make small appearances. There were a couple of intriguing guys at The Pit (Jackson and Steel). Mostly the book was main character driven.
~HEAT LEVEL~
Low. This kind of bummed me out. This was a bit of a slow burn with no sex until 65% into the book. Which like I said was a bit disappointing as the story held potential for some really smokin’ hot and kinky sex. That’s not to say the sex we do get was boring, but “I” would have liked a bit more in that department. In any case, this couple did have AMAZING on page sexual chemistry. So again, just me being picky (lol).
~ANGST LEVEL~
Medium. I found this book a lot less angsty than I did the books with Molly and Tensley. There is some pushing away from Beau, but nothing overly annoying. There wasn’t any OW or OM drama.
~IN THE END~
Like I said, I pretty much LOVED this one. Yes, it had a few little issues that detracted from my enjoyment overall. But they were mainly “ME” issues and ones that most people won’t find problematic at all. This author is an amazing writer, and this book was an amazing book. Therefore yours truly is going to give this one two solid thumbs up and I can’t wait to get my hands on whatever Miz Scarlett has up her sleeve for us next.
I think that it is impossible for R. Scarlett to write a bad book! She continues to blow all of my expectations out of the water and make me an even more devoted reader. From all of the side characters from the Blackest Gold series, Beau Knight was my least favorite (I know, don’t hate me!). However, R. Scarlett was able to make me fall in love with his dark, damaged soul and really root for his redemption and happiness. I absolutely LOVED this book!
The writing was perfection, the pacing was on point and I loved that this book was written in first person, alternating POV’s between Beau and Lex. It was also interesting that this book took place during the events that were happening in the last two books in the Blackest Gold series. I loved seeing the characters I fell in love with, but from a different perspective. However, I would highly suggest reading the Blackest Gold series first if you have not because you will be spoiled for MAJOR plot points. AND those books are absolutely amazing and really set the foundation for this story.
I also loved how this book did not just focus on romance, but also had a great mystery interwoven within the pages. It kept the pacing fast and had me turning the pages so that I could find out what would happen next.
One thing that R. Scarlett is amazing at doing is creating dark, damaged, broody, alpha male characters that you can’t help to fall in love with and Beau Knight is no exception. His past is so heartbreaking and I loved that this book allowed readers to see his softer side. Lex was also an amazing heroine. She was spunky, independent and did what she had to do to survive.
The romance in this book was phenomenal! It was full of angst, drama and the chemistry between Lex and Beau dripped from the pages. Their connection started as an addiction, but then became deeper. I could not have asked for anything more when it came to the romance in this book. It was AMAZING!
Overall, I think this was an amazing addition to the Blackest Gold world and I can’t wait for the next installments! I could not have asked for anything more and I will continue to read ANYTHING that R. Scarlett writes!
It’s a 4.5 for me. I had high expectations for this book because of how much I loved the first series that started the Blackest Gold world, and it pretty much did not disappoint. I think it would’ve been better for those who’d already read the first series because that’s where you really see the foundation laid out for them in this installment. All that darkness and intended first impression is carried into this book so that when they all act the way they do, bare themselves the way they do, it’s in a reason that you can really get. Appreciate, and understand better. Beau has always been an intriguing character for me in the previous books, so seeing him with his constant surrounding of darkness made me a little sad. You feel bad for the guy but at the same time get lured in. It helped me to easily accept Lex’s instant attraction to this dark, miserable soul. It made her look lighter, this innocent wanting to heal him.
I liked their dynamics, how both of them suffered in life but still came out so differently. Lex was an endearing character that I wish I saw more of. She kept that lightness about her, even in times of her own falling. She was young but not at all insufferable, and by the end, I actually consider one of my favorite females. She’s mildly complicated but always lays everything out like it is. Aside from her and Beau, I seriously fangirled at the Tense and Molly moments. Realizing that this book was a bit of a rewind in time threw me off for a few seconds, but I could hardly complain, considering that I got more time with my well-missed couple. When compared to them, though, everything did feel a bit faster than the slow build that had captured my heart with Scarlett’s first series, but I was entertained with the easy writing and enticing darkness, so I didn’t really have a problem with it.
