Fight terror with terror.International art sleuth Adriana Villa’s life is dangerous enough. Saving stolen masterpieces—by stealing them back from the thieves, gangsters, and war criminals who hoard them—has nearly killed her more times than she can count. So, when a secret government agency recruits her to help hunt down a furtive terrorist network bent on stealing some of the world’s most … world’s most powerful missiles, Adriana takes some persuading. She is, after all, in no hurry to die battling an even more lethal brand of killer. And saving priceless art is nothing like fighting to save the free world.
But when she learns of their plan to smuggle a handful of the deadly rockets into London and kill tens of thousands of innocents in the largest terrorist attack in history, Adriana relents—and goes to war.
Victory won’t come easily, though. To launch their murderous strikes, the terrorists will deploy every scheme, every tactic they can think of to stop, or kill, anyone who gets in their way—even the most dangerous woman in the world.

I love all of Ernest Dempsey’s books. This was a great addition after reading all the Sean Wyatt books. This one is about his girlfriend who later becomes Sean’s wife.
I received a free advance copy from the author for my honest review and I also purchased it from amazon.com. Please note for the month of December, author Ernest Dempsey is donating all proceeds from the sale of ‘A Shadow Cell’ will be donated to charities to help with disaster relief efforts around the world. ‘So many people have been affected by hurricanes, earthquakes, and many other kinds of disasters. I thought this might be a good way to help.’
‘A Shadow Cell’ is a long over due, Adriana Villa novel or at least for me it is. Adriana is a pretty interesting character, she is Sean Wyatt’s girlfriend and a great support character for that series.
The story starts out kind of dumb, as Adriana Villa in Munich working for a client to get a piece of stolen art work back. When she gets drug, then wakes up tied to a chair, with a hood over her head, she’s pissed off, gets a job offer to work for Shadow Cell, she’ll think on it, walks out of a abandon warehouse and ends up talking with Joan who is a member of the group.
Duh, did Dempsey ever miss a better way to start this one. He could have tied into the latest Sean Wyatt release, ‘The Fourth Prophecy’. While Sean and Tommy are off to Washington, D.C., he could have had Adriana and Joan, heading out to the spa for the weekend, then while getting a hot stone massage, have June recruit Adriana for her help, without telling her about Shadow Cell, once she kills a terrorist leader and have her fess up to what she did.
Don’t want to give too much away, but Adriana ends up working for Shadow Cell, while in Paris researching for the lost piece of Art from World War II, a terrorist attack happens near her, she goes to the scene and takes out a sniper who planned to kill first responders.
Dempsey writes a good story, When Shadows Call the start of a new series, glad to see him get back to writing about Adriana Villa and definitely a worthy author to check out.
WHEN SHADOWS CALL by Ernest Dempsey Book 1 “THE SHADOW CELL” series
Adriana how she goes from art, preserving them, to an agency wanting her help. Missile’s will be smuggled into London, and innocent people will be killed. Play by their rules she will have a different name; name of agency “The Shadow Cell”. Had she killed before, could she, to save many. Fear, has kept her alive. Her friend June was more than she knew before. What follow is a tense well written plot, the stakes were high, it was a game she loved. The money, she had plenty. Terriorists were out to get her, how would that game be played out.
Readers will enjoy this, and waiting for the next book to follow. Characters were good, and liked the female leads.
