When Love Whispers is a sweet, heartwarming romance. I immediately fell in love with both Willow and Preston. They both have ambition, huge expectations, less than motherly mothers and many personal challenges. Once again I was up too late trying to see how all of this could be resolved. I loved all the Charleston history and the glimpses of the old way of life. The ending could not have been more perfect.
When Love Whispers by Laura Haley-McNeil
Beaumont Brides Series Book Two
Preston Lowe has one goal in life…to go overseas and continue the fight that two of his good friends had died for. He had promised them he’d do this. His focus on that goal didn’t include the beautiful waitress at the club near the academy he was training at. Nor did it include any other surprises that life threw at him.
Willow Dockery’s life changed. The same day her boyfriend left…she found out she was pregnant. She wouldn’t miss her boyfriend, but what would she do about this life growing inside her? She already worked two jobs, and she was more of a mother to her mom than vice versa. And then there was Preston. The man she kept running into. The man who’d be leaving to go overseas…and maybe never return like so many others she’d known.
A wonderful story. Not everything in life goes easy for these two. They both have mothers that are something else. Along with other things that happen. Sometimes goals in life need a little room to stretch and change. Loved it!

This is a beautiful, clean and sweet story. I enjoyed the storyline and the depth of the characters. Willow and Preston are relatable and easy to root for. I’m looking forward to reading more from this author.
I received this as an ARC and chose to give my opinion.
A fitting book to read coming up on Memorial weekend. I enjoyed these characters and the journey they took to happiness together.
I received an ARC of this book and am voluntarily leaving an honest review.
Twenty-one year old Willow Dockery is pregnant, her boyfriend is gone, and she hasn’t got a clue what to do. When handsome cadet Preston Lowe comes to her rescue he leaves an impression on her. But after so many men in her life have left her, and knowing Preston’s overseas deployment will also take him away, she’ll protect her heart at all cost.
Preston Lowe promised himself he’d honor his best friends by serving overseas and doing everything he could to keep his fellow military fighters safe. He’s determined not to let this recent leg pain threatening his chances of being deployed. But then the unexpected happens jeopardizing his carefully planned career aspirations. And falling for a local pregnant want-to-be artist only confuses Preston’s struggle more.
There were a lot of issues with this book. It was ridiculously and unnecessarily long at just over 400 pages, with a lot of repetition. In addition, the author introduced way too many sub plots that were barely glossed over and distracted from the main story line.
I was so disappointed that this author wrote so many siblings into the story yet Preston had no interaction with his brothers, especially never telling them about his serious medical condition. It made absolutely no sense when we are supposed to like his brothers.
Then the shock was the chapter that was completely out of place!! Chapter 37 should have been located around chapter 3 but was the last chapter before the epilogue. That was a ridiculous oversite by the author and editor.
No matter what you want, life happens…
Preston Lowe lives for the day when he graduates from Charleston’s military academy and can deploy overseas to fulfill the vow he made to his friends killed in the war. Willow Dockery’s love is her art. Working two jobs just to survive does not leave much time for painting but someday she will have her own art exhibition. Two people with set goals until life changes everything.
I really liked the rich descriptiveness of Charleston, the architecture, and the farm that the author used to bring the scenes to life. I also liked how Willow’s hair, looks, voice, and mannerisms went along with her name throughout the story. It created an impression of her that went well with the story.
