I requested an advanced copy of this title from NetGalley, and I am leaving my honest opinion.
3.5 stars- WHEN IT’S RIGHT is the third instalment in Victoria Denault’s contemporary, adult SAN FRANCISCO THUNDER hockey, erotic, romance series focusing on the Braddock siblings and the San Francisco Thunder professional hockey team. This is thirty-something, hockey coach and single father Griffin Sullivan, and twenty-seven year old, ER nurse Sadie Braddock’s story line. WHEN IT’S RIGHT can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty.
Told from dual first person perspectives (Griffin and Sadie) WHEN IT’S RIGHT follows the building relationship between hockey coach Griffin Sullivan, and ER nurse Sadie Braddock. Just your typical night in the local ER finds Sadie Braddock facing her future when her sister’s boyfriend and the goalie for the San Francisco Thunder Eli Casco, is side-lined with a possible concussion. Enter the team’s goalie coach Griffin Sullivan, and the man with whom Sadie will fall in love. What ensues is the slow building relationship between Sadie and Griffin, and the potential fall-out as Sadie struggles with family responsibility, and Griffin’s past makes for some difficult situations.
Sadie Braddock battles between head and heart with her attraction to Griffin Sullivan. Sadie’s father struggles with ever worsening ALS, and our heroine takes full responsibility for the family, their problems, and her father’s continuing care. A martyr to the end, Sadie forgoes any personal happiness in an effort to ensure she is close at hand. Griffin Sullivan, single father, hockey coach and former professional goalie has his sights set on Sadie Braddock but troubles with his ex-wife begin to spiral out of control pulling Sadie into a potential media nightmare if Griffin isn’t able to reign in his former spouse.
The relationship between Sadie and Griffin is a case of insta-lust but slow to develop as Sadie fights her attraction to Griffin in an effort to remain available for her father’s care. A persistent Griffin will finally convince Sadie to take a chance on love, a chance that will be derailed by Sadie’s need to be close to home. The $ex scenes are intimate, erotic and seductive.
There is a large ensemble cast of colorful and energetic secondary and supporting characters including Jude Braddock and Zoey (Score #1), Dixie Braddock and Eli Casco (Slammed #2), sister Winnie, as well as their parents Enid and Randy Braddock; Griffin’s daughter Charlie his brother Hunter, Griffin’s ex-wife Lauren, and her boyfriend Cale. The Braddock family camaraderie is spirited and real.
WHEN IT’S RIGHT is a thought provoking tale of family, responsibilities, emotions and love. The premise is intelligent and engaging; the romance is spicy and hot; the characters are sassy, fun and energetic although Sadie’s need to martyr herself was questionable although understandable because there is always one child / one sibling that takes on more responsibility than all of the rest. WHEN IT’S RIGHT is an impassioned look at a debilitating disease that affects every member of the family, and the people they love.
4 1/2 STARS!
Heart-wrenching emotional drama! With the next book in the San Francisco Thunder series, we get Sadie’s story. We’ve already gotten knee deep into this family’s story with the previous books in the series, and this one plays it out further. Jude is the only boy of the family, surrounding by interfering but loving sisters … and as the family reels from his father illness, they all rally around in support of each other. Sadie is the health professional, so she’s carrying the burden of making sure the family accepts and supports her dad’s decisions through it all, and it’s taking a beating on her heart. When she meets Griffin, it’s a breath of fresh air to have something to take her mind off of it for even just a few hours. The story line is emotionally riveting with a side of playful. Really enjoyed it!
As a single dad sharing custody of a precocious 6 year old while working the crazy schedule of a hockey coach with the San Francisco Thunder, Griffin Sullivan knows how to juggle many things at the same time. He’s not actively looking for love because he was burned already, and who has the time right? When he rushes his star goalie to the ER after an injury, he meets someone who just might have him second guessing that feeling!
ER nurse Sadie Braddock is pulling her hair out left and right as she deals with a hectic job on top of all of her family drama. Since here dad’s diagnosis with a horrible illness, her life as been turned upside down with a move to California, and shouldering the responsibility of keeping her family from panicking and causing their dad any further discourse through this difficult time. She’s trying to keep it all together, but it’s really running her ragged. Now she’s met a guy who interests her for the first time in forever, but she just doesn’t have the time or energy to give him what he deserves.
If you haven’t met the Braddock’s yet, what are you waiting for? When It’s Right is Sadie’s story. Although she isn’t a hockey player, this lady is a nurse at a hospital and she’s also the one who is helping with her father through ALS. One night Sadie gets some unexpected visitors at work, her sister’s boyfriend gets injured and she meets his coach, Griffin. What Sadie never expects is the chemistry between her and Griffin. They form a friendship since both of them have so much going on in their lives. What happens when friendship starts to feel too good and they want more?
Ms. Denault is the queen of writing sexy hockey players. Her stories suck me in and melt me to pieces. I can’t wait for the next installment in the San Francisco Thunder series. I just hope we get an inside peek at the final Braddock sister. I love that this series just pulls me away to a land far far away. I only wish I can join in on the fun and get me a hunky hockey star! 4 drool worthy stars!!!
I received a copy via NetGalley and voluntarily left a review and all opinions are my own.
I have fallen madly in love with not only Victoria Denault’s writing since the beginning of her Hometown Players series but also with the Braddock family since the beginning of the San Francisco Thunder series. The love for the Braddock’s has grown exponentially with each book in the series. So I was ecstatic to start reading When It’s Right and get to know the witty Sadie Braddock on a more personal level. Little did I know that Victoria was going to absolutely melt my heart with the hottest hockey coach around, Grant Sullivan. Put Sadie and Grant together and you will for sure experience weak knees, heart palpitations, and hot flashes because these two are all heart with explosive desire!
Sadie has had a soft spot in my heart since I met her in Score, the first book in this series, and I couldn’t wait to get to know more about this spitfire/nightingale. She has always been a pillar of strength for her family and now they need her more than ever with her Dad being ill. She brought me to my knees emotionally with her backbone of steel and courageousness to always be the strong one in the family. Little does she know that she is going to find a man that will fulfill all her fantasies and be the shoulder that she needs to lean on in times like these.
Grant Sullivan couldn’t get any hotter if he tried, with his delicious muscles, sexy intensity, and love for his daughter he is swoon worthy from beginning to end. I loved everything about this hero, especially when he agreed to be there for the ever stubborn and strong Sadie. Nothing is sexier than a man who can give his all in and out of the bedroom and Grant does that whether it is for his daughter, family, or Sadie.
Victoria Denault delivers a love story that has you swimming in emotions and love for everyone in the Braddock family and shows us that love doesn’t go by a time table…it happens when it happens. I highly recommend When It’s Right for a romance that isn’t superficial and still has lots of heat to keep your heart pumping as your eyes are crying for these amazingly real characters. Victoria Denault has made me a fan girl from the moment I opened the first book by her and has kept me constantly obsessing over her hockey hotties. I cannot wait to see if she gives us a story for the last Braddock sister and what kind of steam and emotions she will create for us.
Y’all, I spent the entirety of this book vacillating between giant schmoopy grin and sobby little hiccuppy tears. Perhaps more importantly? I couldn’t put it down. I was sucked into Sadie and Griffin’s story from the very first page, and they (with a little help from the Braddock family) held me in thrall until the very last.
The feelings between Sadie and Griffin ignite very quickly, first as a physical attraction and then quickly evolving into something much more. There were times it felt almost a smidge too insta for me given the amount of time they actually spent together, but their chemistry was on point and it was easy to root for them nonetheless. There were moments and lines that squeezed at my heart and melted me into a puddle of ooey gooey goo. They’re a fantastic couple, and set against the backdrop of the Braddock family dynamic – the whole thing comes together beautifully!
And, if I haven’t made it clear? I 100% adore the Braddock family. They are right in the middle of breaking my heart, but I love them fiercely. The dynamic between the Braddock siblings is hilarious and heartwarming and, as I mentioned, as a backdrop for a blooming relationship – it was guilty of a lot of scene-stealing, and more than one goofy grin and giggle.
In all, this is another stellar installment in a series that has quickly become one of my favorite hockey series. I loved Sadie and Griffin, I loved the balance of lightness and heaviness in the storylines, and I loved getting to spend more time with this amazing family. Excited (and braced) for more to come!
I love the Thunder and this series isn’t shy about giving me what I want. When It’s Right is Sadie’s story. As the middle child in the Braddock clan, Sadie is considered the most dependable. Whether it’s her job or the ability to remain calm in chaos, Sadie is the rock her family leans on while their sun, her dad, slowly dies.
It’s hard. Life isn’t fair. There’s no time for relationships. No time for outside drama. But a chance meeting in the ER has Sadie questioning everything.
It’s about time too. Watching Sadie slip into the girl from before is smile inducing. It doesn’t hurt that the object of her lusting, longing, and desires is the goalie coach for a certain, San Francisco Thunder. He is pretty, rugged, and an amazing man. Oh and a gorgeous, single dad.
I am so loving this series !!
Sadie and Griffin two people really not looking for love but sometimes you have to go with the flow.
Sadie is strong, sweet, quirky and yes says whatever is on her mind. Working in an ER has given her a sass and strength that those around her admire.
Griffin is a goalie coach for the hockey team Thunder and has had the privilege of meeting many of Sadie’s family but he has never had the pleasure of a run in with the lovely Sadie until his player is presented at the ER.
A immediate attraction , witty banter and undeniable sexual chemistry but they both feel as thought it is not the right time. Sadie’s family is in the midst of dealing with the heartbreaking realization the ACLs is moving quickly on her father and Griffin is dealing with an ex that is attempting to take partial custody of his daughter away! Just when you may think timing is all off one bright man may enlighten you as to what may be right before your eyes!!
Loved it !!

When I found out that Sadie and Winnie (the other two members of “the sorority”) were getting their own books, I could not wait to get my hands on them! Victoria Denault did not disappoint and I loved Sadie and Griffin’s emotional and heartfelt romance! Though this is book 3 in the San Francisco Thunder series, it can be read as a stand alone. I do highly recommend Score and Slammed, however, since they’re amazing and because the characters from these books do appear in When It’s Right.
I loved how honest Sadie and Griffin’s story was. Yes, there is instalust right from the start, but the reality of their lives and the struggles they face are very realistic and significant. This book isn’t just a love story between a man and woman. It’s also a love story between parents and children, siblings, spouses, and friends. It’s a story about timing and the joys and cruelty it can deliver. I think this is the most emotional and poignant book I have read by the author. Her heartbreaking and truthful portrayal of loss, grief, and mortality had me an emotional mess at times, but she balanced it so well with the sweet, sexy, and wonder of new love. Griffin was a fantastic hero and had me swooning and grinning like a fool! Unicorn indeed! 😉
It’s no secret that I love the Braddock family, and honestly, I fall more in love with them after every book. I see pieces of my own family and childhood in them, but also things I strive for with my own children and husband. One of the best parts is the banter between the siblings, especially between Jude and Sadie. Those moments of levity kept the book from getting too heavy and had me laughing out loud. The Braddock’s are definitely one of my favorite fictional families. I also loved the appearances by Jude, Zoey, Dixie, and Eli. That epilogue had me shrieking for my favorite goalie and his lady love! I honestly cannot wait to see how Winnie’s story unfolds, but I also know there will be tears, as the Braddock’s prepare for a final goodbye.
