“Marry me.”
“What?” I stared back at him, unblinking.
He moved closer, taking my face in his hands. “I love you, Evie. I look into the future, and the only thing I see clearly is you. Marry me.”
What’s an eighteen-year-old girl who was madly in love with her nineteen-year-old boyfriend say?
Of course, I said yes.
Twenty-four hours later, I married Adam Gunner at a Vegas chapel to the sounds … Gunner at a Vegas chapel to the sounds of “Livin’ on a Prayer” by Bon Jovi. Not the best omen. I get that now.
Then, exactly one week later, I left him. I walked out, leaving behind my wedding ring, annulment papers, and my heart, and he never knew why.
I haven’t seen him since. Not in ten long years.
Now, he’s here, standing before me. Looking at me with nothing but hurt and hatred in his eyes, he wants answers.
Answers I can’t give.

It’s always excited to start a new book. You never know what will happen, sometimes you have big expectations, sometimes you just don’t know. Well, I didn’t know what to expect from this book but I soon found out that I loved it. This book made me feel many things. For me, the story was very emotional. For one reason or another I always feel that way when the story is about (young) lovers who get separated through the deeds of others. It always breaks my heart.
What you should know about this book is, that although the story starts in the present, there are many chapters writing in the past too. The storyline is a combination of two stories, one from the past and one from the present.
Adam Gunner didn’t know what love was until he met Evie Taylor when he was 18 years old. His parents cared only about themselves, the only reason Adam was born was because of the family business. So meeting Evie and loving her was a big moment in Adam’s life.
From the first moment that the 17 years old Evie met Adam, she knew that the moment was special. And she was right because one year after their first meeting, Adam asked her to marry him. Both of them knew that it was a big decision to make at such a young age but the love that they felt for each other was one of a kind. Their wedding day was the happiest day of their lives and for one week they were happy and content. But then Evie disappeared, leaving behind her wedding ring and annulment papers. After trying everything in his power to found her (and failing) Adam tries to go on with his life. But how do you live with a broken heart?
Ten years later Adam has built a life for himself, it’s not the life that he once dreamed of but it’s all that he has. Then the unexpected happens, by chance he meets Evie in his favourite coffee shop. He can’t believe it, after years of searching for her, he has found her! And now he will do everything he can to find the answer to the question that has haunted him for ten years. Why did she leave him without a goodbye or an explanation?
Ten years ago Evie made a choice, but the truth of the matter is that she never had a choice. For years she lived with that decision. Now the past and the guy that she once loved are knocking on her door. Adam is looking for answers, answers that Evie can’t give him. Adam nor Evie know what to feel or what to do with this reunion. The only thing they know is, is that it hurts even after so many years of being apart. And this time around, they both have to make a choice, Evie has to decide if she will tell Adam the truth about what happened ten years ago or not and Adam has to decide if he can ever forgive Evie for leaving him and taking his heart with her.
One thing is for sure, whatever they decide, this time Evie will not leave without a goodbye.
Like I said in the beginning of my review this story was very emotional. The love, the hurt, the anger, the sadness, there were a lot of feelings floating around in this book. I liked the switch between the present and the past. I don’t always like it but in this book it was the perfect thing to do.
I was also very happy with the epilogue. I really love those and in this story you really needed it.
From the very first page of this book i knew i was going to love it, i really liked the way this book was written and how we went back into the past and we were in the present.
Both these main characters were complex you had Adam who had been lost for 10 years not knowing how his life ended up the way it did and then you had Evie who had to do things for the sake of others and hurt Adam in the process.
I don’t want to say to much as it’s best to go in blind bit this book had it all it was steamy, with an awesome story line, there were lies and deceit, anger, sadness it just pulled every emotion from you.
I loved Evie’s dad and Casey and even Grady and Max made the book so that blood wasn’t always family and this book shows that you would also do everything you can for the ones you love.
Loved this book and story and if your looking for a book with angst and the feels then this is the one for you
This book was very well written. The structure was basic to this author but she manages to build a great story around it. He is the love starved son of a movie star , who is a nightmare of a mother, and a dad who is a gay studio mogul. He never makes commitment u til he see a girl sitting on a rock at the beach drawing. He watches her for a week until his best friend encourages him to talk to her. Seems she has been watching her as well. They are only 18 and 19. She works hard to help her family. Her younger sister has a cancerous brain tumor but is in remission. They have a whirlwind romance and go to Vegas to get married. When they get home she finds her sister is back in the hospital . She has to make some serious decisions that will impact her and her marriage.
