While duck hunting one morning, childless, middle-aged Nathan McCann finds a newborn abandoned in the woods. To his shock, the child — wrapped in a sweater and wearing a tiny knitted hat — is still alive. To his wife’s shock, Nathan wants to adopt the boy… but the child’s grandmother steps in. Nathan makes her promise, however, that one day she’ll bring the boy to meet him so he can reveal that … that he was the one who rescued him.
Fifteen years later, the widowered Nathan discovers the child abandoned once again — this time at his doorstep. Named Nat, the teenager has grown into a sullen delinquent whose grandmother can no longer tolerate him. Nathan agrees to care for Nat, and the two engage in a battle of wills that spans years. Still, the older man repeatedly assures the youngster that, unlike the rest of the world, he will never abandon him — not even when Nat suffers a trauma that changes both of their lives forever.

Five tear-stained stars. This book had me blubbering like a baby at the end. Hyde writes characters that are flawed, yet so sympathetic, you can’t help but love them and root for them. If you want a truly emotionally-resonant read, pick this one up.
Tears. Sweet book about a boy and his adoptive parents.
Made me cry it is a moving wonderful book.
Really enjoyed this book!!
When I found you, was a very beautiful story that will take you on a journey that you won’t anticipate. Whatever you thought when I found you was about is not.
When I started this book I didn’t know how emotional but yet beautiful it will be. The more I dig into the story the characters begging to unfold slowly showing us different aspects of …
Loved loved loved this book. So rich in character and human love. Warmed my heart.
One of the best books I’ve EVER read! She is a great author and this is an unusual love story, because it is the love between a man and the boy he finds thrown away as a baby.
This book was different, I expected something and the story took a different turn. Then I though oh this will happen then something else happened. Don’t expect a happy ending, but I loved the fact that it was a good story and not predictable like so many books today.
I read this with my book club. We all love CRH books.
Author never disappoints. Her characters are human and interesting.
This is a beautiful book, told in a style reminiscent of older novels, with a directness and forthrightness of verbiage and narrative that actually compelled me check the publication date to see if it had been written decades earlier. Not that I minded; in fact, I found the style a perfect match for the tale being told. What some reviewers defined …
Made me realize that we don’t give enough credit to our children when they are faced with the hard realities of life. I’ve worked with children with disabilities and difficult home situations. Regardless of their age they need honesty and unwavering support. They also need an adult who will teach them to be responsible for their actions … this …
Things didn’t turn out as expected.
I discovered Catherine Ryan Hyde through my KINDLE AUDIBLE App as a FREE book, which I paid the $1.99 to upgrade to audible. (I listen on my commute to work since my secret passion is reading and it’s tough with work and a toddler!) CATHERINE IS HANDS DOWN one of the best authors. Her books, characters and storylines grab you and make you …
