A job, a true love, a baby, a cure. . . We’re all waiting for something from God. And the place between His answers can feel like a wasteland where dreams–and faith–go to die. When we’re waiting, we wonder, “Why?”, “Why me?”, and “How long?” But the truth? . . . When God says, “Wait,” He doesn’t tell us for how long. When God says, “Wait,” we face one of life’s greatest tests. When God says, … says, “Wait,” we face one of life’s greatest tests.
When God says, “Wait,” we have decisions to make.
When God says, “Wait,” we can control only two things: how we wait, and who we become along the way.
Author Elizabeth Laing Thompson invites you to walk alongside people of the Bible who had to wait on God. . .imperfect heroes like David, Miriam, Naomi, Sarah, Joseph, and others. Their stories will provide a roadmap for your own story, helping you navigate the painful, lonely territory of waiting, coming out on the other side with your faith, relationships, and sense of humor intact. They might even help you learn to enjoy the ride.
This book is about the journey of waiting, the space between answers, and the people we become while we live there.

This is one of those authors that God brought to me at the perfect time–as I sit in a waiting season (this book) and am beginning to hear the call that the wait is over (another of her books–When God Says Go). I enjoyed this book immensely, including the brief stories based on Bible characters’ lives. I giggled, smirked, and felt deep heartache at various moments the author shared from her life, all relatable even though our stories are vastly different. She wrote with the tenderness inherent in those who have walked a difficult journey and come out the other side with great hope to share. I look forward to reading more from Mrs. Thompson.
It’s not easy waiting no matter what an individual might be waiting for. When God Says Wait, a devotional thought journal, is the perfect for recording your thoughts, actions and prayers as you wait.
This hardbound journal will encourage you in your spirit and mind as you wait. The two pages for each day or whatever pace has a Bible verse on the left page then a wonderful thought and question to ponder and answer on the right side. There is plenty of room to journal your prayers, thoughts and preparations as you wait for your answer. This journal is perfect for using during your devotions with God to grow your faith while waiting, knowing that God does all things well. The scriptures will uplift readers and some would be great to commit to memory.
I received a complimentary copy of this book from Barbour Publishing and was under no obligation to post a review. I have shared my own opinion.
Very informative & inspiring read. Teaches one how to be more patient.
This book changed my life for the better. Seriously, I cannot thank the author enough for putting this out there. A MUST READ if you are in a season of waiting.
I am in the midst of a painful waiting period. This author has a way of sharing her own truth that is transparent, authentic, and even, at times, funny. Hard to believe this is her first book but there was a purpose to this wait. Thank you.
I enjoyed reading and hearing about Jesus
This is an excellent book. I loved the authors style and appreciated her insight and wisdom. I would definitely recommend.
Life is waiting with brief ups and downs. This book will help you seek God and His truth, wisdom and path along the way. Amazing book!
Excellent book about the difficulties and opportunities of having to wait for what we want while trying to trust God. The author used both Biblical and modern examples throughout. It’s very readable and worth learning from.
What a wonderful book . Full of wisdom and great encouragement. I will be reading this book more then once. I will also highly recommend to other.
Thank you to this wonderful author for exposing hers and other to be of help to all of us. May God richly bless you and you family… Carol Hammond
Very Compelling and appropriate.
very encouraging
This author takes biblical stories and rewrites them so you feel you are right there in their waiting times. Then she shares the lessons of waiting in a way that greatly encouraged me. I have shared what I learned with several people so far and I am reading the book all over again to make sure I get every bit of wisdom out of it.
This is a very deep, soul searching book. It was very helpful and applicable to my life. Thank you for sharing your waiting times and the impact they have had on your life. Also for the hope, and encouragement to forge forward through all things.
Although this is written to women, it is a great read for men as well . . . anyone who finds it difficult to wait on God! Highly recommended!
I honestly cannot overstate how brimming-with-wisdom this special book is. Confession: I’m a guy reading this Christian-lit book and being utterly charmed and instructed with each chapter. Elizabeth’s self-deprecating wit brightens and reinforces her biblical points: and trust me, this great book will absolutely feed and motivate you to a deeper kind of discipleship. I’ve been on a summer tear in my Kindle reading, and “When God Says ‘Wait’” has been the brightest jewel in a whole slew of very good books.
Unfortunately this book didn’t grab my attention nor did it keep it.
We all need to recognize that God answers all our prayers. They may not be what we want His answers to be. Maybe he says “Wait”. Hard for us to do at times. We don’t understand!
Nothing new in this book.
I needed to hear some of the things mentioned.
