IS IT POSSIBLE THAT GOOD THINGS CAN COME OUT OF OUR BROKEN DREAMS? Worship leader and recording artist Laura Story’s life took an unexpected turn when her husband, Martin, was diagnosed with a brain tumor. Their lives would never be the same. Yes, with God all things are possible. But the devastating news was that no cure existed to restore Martin’s short-term memory, eyesight, and other … and other complications. The fairy-tale life Laura had dreamed of was no longer possible. And yet in struggling with God about how to live with broken dreams, Laura has found joy and a deeper intimacy with Jesus.
Laura helps us understand we aren’t the only ones whose lives have taken unexpected turns. She examines the brokenness of some of the heroes of our faith, and shows how despite their flaws and flawed stories, God was able to use them in extraordinary ways. And it was not because of their faith, but because of the faithfulness of their God. God may not fix everything. In fact, although your situation might not ever change or get better, with Jesus you can.
“Our family has been ministered to by her vulnerability and willingness to walk in the valley and still say ‘God, I Trust You.’”

I loved her song Blessings and it encouraged me during my husband’s illness and death. I really enjoyed her book which detailed her reason for the song and how it originated out of her own trials.
Tremendously accurate – if you have shared life and inter-related deeply enough with people.
I heard Laura Story sing before I read this book. Her song “Blessings” touched my life and my heart; it lead me back to Jesus. This book is beautifully written and I recommend it to anyone looking for inspiration.
Very honest and open. I was inspired by the way she is facing the challenges in her life.
The author’s story was relatable, open and honest. I found it helpful for my situation.
Real-life Christianity.
Helpful and hopeful.
This book was such an encouragement to me, as I am walking on a very difficult path. The author’s words reached deep into my heart and lifted me higher.
If you are going through a trial this helps you know it’s ok to feel some of the emotions you feel.
God Bless this author – she nailed it
Caused me to see my own selfishness and lack of love in a deeper way. Truthful and REAL. We dont always like how God works, but He always works for our Good. Showed me how much I was missing with my whining.
Realistic, God doesn’t always “fix our situations the way we want or think they should be. But He always does what is best for us & for His glory.
This is a great reminder that while we cannot control our circumstances, we can control how we choose to walk through them.
Incredible true story of a Christian songwriter and singer. Amazing faith through the trials of her husband brain tumor. God is faithful and brought beauty for ashes.
Laura Story is a worship leader and well known Christian musical artist. Her song “Blessings” came out of personal tragedy when her husband, Martin, suffered irreparable brain damage and vision loss after doctors removed a malignant non-cancerous tumor from his brain.
God doesn’t always fix what is broken and learning to live with a lifetime of shattered dreams, crushed expectations, and what might seem to be unanswered prayers truly can be blessings in disguise.
Laura tells the couple’s story with compelling honesty and helps the reader see the difference between the myths we believe as compared to the truth of God’s Word and His promises.
This book is wonderful. I really enjoy Laura Story’s music. This is her story. All the trials in her adult life. She is real and allows you to know she is not perfect but sometimes responding not so well and sometimes well. Highly recommend.
Beautiful and encouraging story
Open, honest, helpful. I found myself highlighting throughout. It was especially enlightening when the author talked about the futility of ‘Why’ questions….and how healing it is to replace them with ‘How’ questions….such as ‘How can I use this situation for God’s glory?’
It is a gripping book. It keeps you intrigued.
Laura Story’s transparency and openness in sharing their journey through unexpected and unresolved difficulties is both refreshing and encouraging. My faith has been strengthened and my hope renewed by reading of how God has met her in the middle of life-altering difficulties. I highly recommend this book!
I have recommended this book to others. It’s a good book to challenge you to think about your faith and relationship with God. It’s about the wait, because often we want whatever instantly.
