I’ve Been Lucky, apart from the first 2 books (which I read when the ARC’s were released to MS Harris’ ARC Team, I’ve binged read every other book this week, but now nearly a years wait, Noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!
What an unique & incredibly story, by far the most entertaining of all 7 “Gargoyles Books” to date (not including the Creature Guide as mine, still hasn’t arrived).
And I haven’t even mentioned one of the best features of all, with only 13 errors within the pages of this whole book, I am absolutely ecstatic and now can not wait for the release of book 7 When Gargoyles Cry Victory on November 17th 2020!!!
But wow that’s almost a whole year to wait!
This book is what has made me decide to finish out the series as I was extremely conflicted before this book. I almost didn’t read it! What a shame that would have been.
After reading When Gargoyles Breakthrough, I wasn’t sure I wanted to continue reading the series, even though I wanted to know what happens to all my favourite & my most despised characters(whom are sometimes my favourites, sometimes their se bad & evil, their just so darn good)!
I was finding it too hard to read when you’re constantly pulled out of the story recording typos, grammar & punctuation mistakes. Or even if you’re not recording them & just reading the book, it still makes it so difficult to concentrate on the story & stay focused. Especially if you’re the type of reader who Skin Walks in character’s skin, playing their role in the story, or all of thd roles.
With all the mistakes, there are even many sentence that don’t quite make sense, it’s almost as if they are back to front.
But all that changed with this book!
Even the over top used phrases of “make a fist” (which each character does whenever they get angry) almost completely disappeared with just 1 or 2 mentions in When Gargoyles Reign.
There have been so many errors, that I seriously believed these books were never edited by a professional editor, but I see this one was, as there was a ‘Thank You’ to the fabulous Margo Bond Collins (another favorite author of mine) in the dedication page.
I’m so glad I left this book to last to read (when I was on MS Harris’ ARC Team, I asked if I could save the prequel to last (I prefer them that way, unless there’s a reason they must be read in release order) and with permission granted, when I didn’t hand in my review b4 the books release, Ms Harris’ Manager struck me off the ARC Team, so I never got to complete the series.
If I have not left this book to last, there is no way I would have gone on to read the rest of the series (however many more books there maybe plus the 2 Slayer Novels (both of which reside in this universe.
I highly recommend this book, with its fabulous characters whom are easy to love or hate, a fresh & unique perspective and spin on the Vampire genre in what effects them & doesn’t (which is not that easy to do today). Detailed descriptive world building that makes you feel as though you’re experiencing the events along the way and an awesome storyline that was so good, it practically turned the pages itself!
I RATE WHEN GARGOYLES REIGN 4.8 OUT OF 5 !
Congratulations Ashley C. Harris On A 1st Rate Book & Story! I can not rave highly enough about it.
Also a big thank you to both yourself & the artist who came up with the Creature Family Trees. They are a wonderful tool to have, making it so much easier to imagine each character from their pictures, but also when you want a refresher of what a character looks like or which sibling, or who’s child, or who’s parents the character descends from etc. I also love how it guides us knowing exactly which characters have certain powers or abilities or blood running through their veins &how they are all interlaced as one larger extended family, really.
With such a enormous cast, it’s not always easy keeping track of them all, after all there’s 14 Vampire’s alone in the Royal Family, not too mention re-marriages while such & such sleeps and illegitimate Spawn that should have been murdered before being born.
I borrowed a copy of this book from Kindle Unlimited and this is my fair honest & impartial review as always.
