When Gargoyles Drown : (Book # 3 Shades and Shadows Series) : Ashley C. Harris.
Great Characters & Storylines,
Just Way Too Many Errors!!!
I first began reading this series when it became available as an ARC Copy to Ashley’s newsletter subscribers, before its release back in September 2017.
I remember being so excited when I first saw the reveal of each cover as the art work is just phenomenal, some of the most amazing covers I’d ever seen, so congrats to both Ashley for choosing the artist & the artist for an absolutely awesome series of covers which are still some if my favourites over 3 years later.
The story sounded incredible and gargoyles were my favourite supernatural creature at the time.
Unfortunately I only ended up reading books1 & 2 as when the prequel was released next as the 3rd release in the series, I asked & recieved Ms Harris’s permission to read it at the end of the series as a final book instead as I always enjoy reading prequels last.
So with permission given from the author, when the ARC’s for book 4 came & went without my receiving the ARC,
I contacted Ashley multiple times, but never was given a reply, then I was kicked off the ARC List by her manager/assistant/editor as I did not review the prequel even though this was prearranged.
There is a great story by in this series,
with some incredible characters & great world building too, unfortunately it is ruined as you are constantly pulled out of the story every page or so (sometimes multiple times per page to record errors.
This is the job of an editor (which I truly believe was not used here or for a Beta Team not an ARC Team, there’s a difference.
The abundance of typos, spelling mistakes, grammatical errors and sentences it just don’t make any sense are horrific.
And in this book one of the main Characters Adamus’s name was constantly spelt wrong (and I am not referring to his cover name at school as Adam! I am referring to Adamus.
Also ever instant of the word scar (as in the two small scars left by a Vampires fangs) are spelt wrong and there are multiple listings of this word & variations spelt as as scare, scared, scares.
I never thought I’d finished reading this series as I refused to pay good hard earned money for such a low quality books.
I had hoped some day to return to the series, If the errors were corrected perhaps then I would have purchased them, but over 3 years later, they still have not been updated by the author!
I’m not sure if I could leave my work in such a shoddy state.
Luckily I borrowed this book during my free 30 day period of Kindle Unlimited.
I really hate to trash an authors hard work as its full of blood, sweat, tears and tantrums as they put so much of themselves into these books and the work is phenomenal with researching, writing, editing, cover work, promotions, etc, but I’m blown away Ashley has not bother to update please books and fix the errors as it reduces what could be a 4-5star book to a 3 -3¹/²star book.
If Ms Harris fixed these books I would gladly recommend them to friends & would rate them much higher, but at this rate I’m not sure I could put up with reading the entire 7-8 book series at this rate.
Also there one particular phrase or saying that is grossly over used in every book…
“Wait, Rose called as she was tempted to grab the woman and pull her back to her, much more forcefully. She made a fist… (this ‘made a fist’ thing gets on the nerves as its repeated so frequently, several times in every book and by every single character, I find it bizarre that every character use all the same traits.
I Rate When Gargoyles Drown 3 Out Of 5!
I will update this review & score if & when the errors are fixed.
I borrowed a copy of this book from Kindle Unlimited and this is my fair, honest and impartial review as always.
