Fantastic and Intense End
I’ve been binge reading this series just to get to this book: why? One, because I missed my Ethan and Jack, and Two: I didn’t want to forget anything that had happened over the course of the series.
So getting right into it, the book was split into three parts with some having just Ethan’s POC, other’s just Jack’s and others flipping between those two.
Part one was torture to read through. Its not because the writing was bad; but simply because of the reliving of all the horrors Ethan faced at the hands of evil EVIL Cabal. So yeah, brace yourselves for that as well as some intense emotions that are going to knock you flat on your bum.
In Part 2, the time lines were all over the place for me. Now, if it had simply been the “before/after” and the “then/now” structure of the previous books I could’ve coped.
But I guess since this was the ultimate book, it had to be as convoluted as possible. Yes, it read like the best of movies but as a book, I couldn’t help but get frustrated at some points. At points I couldn’t figure out if this was before or after the part one .
In part Part 3, the final part, I was still a bit unsure of the time line but with the lightning fast pacing and all the movements and machinations within machinations occurring, I discounted the confusion and focused on enjoying the story coming to a conclusion.
And what a conclusion it was! It fit the theme of the series perfectly and even when my heart hurt from all the pains Ethan and Jack were going through, I was thoroughly satisfied with how it ended.
I will certainly miss these men and will definitely be Re-reading this in the future.
The Devil and the Death series completely surprised and hooked me in a way few series every have. So of course when I started When Death Frees the Devil I was a jumble of emotions: excited for what promised to be an amazing book, sad that this would be the last time (for now) I get to tag along on Jack and Ethan’s adventures, a little anxious about what these two would have to endure to get a happily-ever-after, and a bit apprehensive it wouldn’t blow me away the way the other books/novellas have. For those of you thinking the same, fear not. This book is a sendoff worthy of all the action, explosions, high speed chases, and unexpected twist that have firmly situated the series on my list of top couples and favorite series. If you like high octane excitement and suspense with a slow burn romance that will make your heart ache at times and soar at others, I cannot recommend this series enough.

Holy Fuuuckk!! My mind is blown!! The author is pure evil. I think she hangs out with Layla Reyne a bit too much. I hate her and love her at the same time.
My emotions are all over the place. This book is the last one in the trilogy and what a fitting ending. This series is one of my favourites of all time and I cannot reccomend it enough.
Jack and Ethan, one second I want to throw my phone across the room and in the next one I melt into a pile of goo. Guys, unlike the previous books, this one has DUAL POV!! I think my brain melted when it all came together, especially coupled with the author’s signature back and forth between past and present.
Filled with action, mystery and romance, this book is my favourite in the series. While we know that Jack is half Indian, it filled me with happiness when I realised Jack’s mom is from Kerala (I sort of suspected but still). It’s just I’ve never come across my birthplace or mother tongue mentioned in a book I’ve read. I’m being silly, I know!
So if my blabbering hasn’t already clued you in, this series and this book is HIGHLY recommended! Also the coda was so beautiful and I was smiling like a clown the entire time.
