If someone asks single mother Frankie Castor to clear a room, she’ll smile and find a vacuum cleaner. Ryan Harper, on the other hand, uses a gun. Is it possible they can work together when their lives depend on it?
Frankie’s returned to her childhood home in Montana to help care for her mother. Her biggest worries are balancing the budget and the upkeep of an aging home. When she offers a man a … offers a man a ride home from the hospital, she never imagines she’ll end up having to choose between her daughter’s life and matters of national security that could cost the lives of millions.
Ryan returns to his family home to find a way to prove he didn’t leak vital information on a covert ops mission gone south. As he searches for the meaning of a file he’s kept hidden from the mission, he has no idea that international mercenaries have been searching for it—and him. When the mercenaries come after Ryan, he’s torn. Fighting for his country wars with fighting to rescue people he loves.
Set against a Montana mountain backdrop, When Danger Calls is a story filled with action, adventure, and romance, where the stakes keep getting higher and higher.
Excerpt:
Frankie took his elbow. “You’re still shaky. I think you should stick around here, where someone can keep an eye on you.”
His mouth narrowed. “No, I need to get away. It’s complicated, but I don’t want anyone to know I’m here.” He stared over her shoulder for a moment, as if it took a long time for the words to line up before he spoke. “Can I impose on you for a lift to a motel? I’d like to be nearby.”
He lifted his arms shoulder height, palms upward, then did a slow pivot. “I’m not armed. And I don’t bite. Promise. In a few minutes I’ll be out of your hair.”
Logic said to give him cab fare. She checked her wallet, and didn’t think three dollars would get him anywhere. She remembered his gentle touch on the dance floor. At the moment, he was in no condition to do anything to hurt her. She’d have him at a motel in a few minutes. Instinct trumped logic. “My car’s outside. Can you walk?”
The Buzz for WHEN DANGER CALLS
”…an action-packed adventure tale with agreeable results.” Jay Boyar, Orlando Magazine
“Odell has written a story with nonstop action. There are plenty of surprises, especially when the line that separates the good guys from the bad guys becomes blurred … Odell’s writing will keep readers on their toes.” – Barb Anderson, Romantic Times BOOKreviews.
“Terry Odell creates adventures that will keep you turning the pages. A perfect, getaway read from a very talented author.” – USA Today best-selling author Rhonda Pollero
Terry Odell puts a fresh spin on romantic suspense with WHEN DANGER CALLS. The story teems with passion, action and characters as real as your best friend. All I can say is make sure there is nothing urgent that needs to be done before you start reading this book because once you start reading it you will not be able to put it down until the end. Awesome read!!
I opted to take a break from writing one night and nurture my reading soul, and I stumbled across When Danger Calls – The first installment in the Blackthorne, Inc series by Terry Odell. The blurb caught my attention so I thought I would give it a try.
I am so very, very glad I did.
This story grabbed me from the very first sentence, and kept my attention all the way through to the last word on the last page. I read it straight through without stopping – something I don’t do that often, but for this book, I had no choice. I just had to keep reading! Realistic characters with past demons, inner turmoil, danger, action, intrigue, romance, family ties – all are present here.
I think two things especially have made me a fan of Ms. Odell, and they are:
1) one could completely remove the ‘bedroom scenes’ in this book, and you’d still have a powerfully written, compelling, and complete story (that would make a GREAT movie, by the way – it’s THAT good).
2) the ‘bedroom scenes’ are written extremely tastefully, very emotionally connective and romantic, and as a result they enhance rather than overpower the rest of the story.
I’ll sum by saying I made it a point to immediately purchase books 2 – 9 in the Blackthorne Inc series, and I plan to devour them all as quickly as I can.
Awesome Awesome book
Great book!
Looking to reading book 2 in this series
I enjoyed this suspenseful romance. When a mission went sideways for Black Ops specialist, Ryan, and he was injured, he was put on leave. His boss suspected he had something to do with leaked information that caused the mission to fail. Ryan went to his hometown to recuperate determined to clear his name. When he met Frankie, he never expected to fall for her. But he did.
Ryan’s life was filled with danger and when that danger appeared in his small town and put everyone he loved at risk, he found himself in the fight of his life. I liked the characters. They weren’t perfect but that just made them feel more real. I didn’t like the explicit sex. It wasn’t necessary for the storyline to have such detail.
This book will hold your attention all the way through. Romantic suspense fans will like it.
Great book with some romance and lots of action.
A lot more pages than I normally read, but kept me reading to find out what happens next. Loved the book.
Had trouble putting this one down! Wonderful story!
Great romance
I enjoyed it. I find myself reading more books like this Holds my interest
I liked it so well, that I have just ordered 7 more by this author. It was a great read. I hated to put it down.
A great read. Will definitely look for more from this author.
I couldn’t put it down! That being said, I’m a little irritated at Terry ODell… laundry didn’t get done, nor the vacuuming, and now I have to mow in the heat of the day rather than a cooler day yesterday. 😉 Ryan and Frankie… oh my! What an edge-of-your-seat read! Ryan– brooding, mysterious, fierce, handsome– can be my Warrior Jack anytime! Frankie– Pollyanna-positive yet a bit of a worrier, mom, and a bit humorous– needed the Warrior she found in Ryan, but also the strength and heat she found in him. A great read leaving me wanting for more of Blackthorne, Inc.! I highly recommend!
Loved reading this romantic spy thriller.
I really enjoyed the plot. It was nicely convoluted and, fast paced. Darling daughter!
I liked this book a lot
Fast paced and engaging.
Enjoyed seeing strong macho guy fall for sweet 5 year old girl and her mother
I enjoyed the book and felt the sexual details not totally necessary
