From New York Times bestselling author Penelope Ward, comes a new standalone novel. What do you do when a sexy, older man moves into your family’s summer rental?Well, apparently, you make a fool of yourself-over and over. Things didn’t exactly get off on the right foot with Noah Cavallari. Our first encounter was embarrassing, to say the least. But despite that, I found myself waking up every day … day with a newfound energy. Nothing exciting ever happened on the lake-not until Noah moved into the small boathouse on our property. He’d booked it for the entire summer¿and I was still trying to figure out why. When my mother became ill, I inherited the responsibility of making sure our guests were well taken care of. I should have been in college. Instead, I was living my best life¿as a maid.Dark, handsome, and mysterious, everything about Noah screamed forbidden. I knew he was just passing through town for the summer.I knew he was probably too old for me.Yet, I was drawn to him.Not to mention, he tried to save my life when he mistakenly thought I was drowning.I wanted him and made no secret of it.His own attempts to warn me away soon gave way to late-night moonlight chats by the lake. We were slowly easing into a friendship that was gearing up to explode into something I might not recover from. Because he’s leaving at the end of the summer. And I have no idea what I’ll do when August ends.

What an unbelievable Book!! You know you’ve read a phenomenal story when you just take a deep breath and ponder on the feelings thats are brought forth! I swooned and laughed! Giggled and worried! Such a wonderful heartfelt story that will touch in ways you’ve never imagined! Fantastic read that will have a place in my heart for time to come!
This is yet another fantastic standalone from Penelope Ward. I have a feeling this will be in my top ten reads for 2019.
Honestly, I’m pretty sure I would have loved this book no matter how the ending went. Whether it was a summer only fling, a lifetime friendship, or a happily ever after. I won’t tell you how Noah and Heather end up though.
You just need to read this.
I felt for both of the characters. I also loved them both.
Heather has so much on her shoulders. Probably too much for a twenty/twenty-one year old. She’s tough and she handles everything as well as she can.
These two met at the perfect time. They helped each other out.
They needed each other and didn’t know it.
I’m not going to say much more so I can keep this spoiler free.
Just read it!
A romantic story with twists and turns I didn’t see coming
A new, elegantly crafted romance by Penelope Ward. I always look forward to her books and this one passed with flying colors. Noah and Heather are so good together, so real and I love how their story develops. Seemingly going one way and then the author throws some new elements in that I didn’t see coming. But it works so well and by the end it feels like I read about somebody’s life.
I don’t even know where to start with this review. Penelope Ward just gave us her best book yet.
When August Ends will make you swoon, smile, cry, experience so many emotions back to back. This was a story about love, about forgiveness, and about life. Heather is a girl stuck in a place where she doesn’t hate it, but wished it was different. After losing her sister, and taking care of her mom things for her are always the same. So when Noah comes into town for the summer the last thing she expects if for him to make her want more.
Noah was amazing, he’s a guy filled with guilt, he thinks he isn’t capable of love, or to live a normal life. When Heather and Noah meet, let’s just say is so hilarious, I was laughing so much. These two have a chemistry that is off the charts, I loved how Heather made Noah see that he is capable of being loved, and I loved how Noah was able to make Heather want more and see that there is more than what she’s used to. This is a must read guys, this is a book you will love so much and will keep thinking about it days after you finish it.
Penelope Ward has slayed it again!!! When August Ends is simply amazing and so well written that I just couldn’t put it down. I loved Noah and Heather as they were wonderful characters and their unique story was definitely worth reading about it. This book has everything a reader would want and more! It has humor, steamy sexy times, swoon worthy and emotional moments. It’s a five star plus book and I highly recommend it.
Will she lose him when August ends?
From her first encounter with Noah, Heather was blown away. This man was the epitome of masculinity and gorgeousness. She had never met a man like him before. The only man she had ever been intimate with was a high school boy she dated. No way anywhere near the hunk of a man she found at her family’s boathouse wearing just a towel. As their relationship grew into a friendship, she knew deep in her heart, he was the man for her. No matter what she did to seduce him, he would always reject her gently to keep their friendship without the complications of sex.
For Noah, Heather was temptation incarnate. Because of the age difference and other complications, he felt it was best if he kept their friendship platonic. He already had baggage from his past that burdened him. No reason to increase his guilt to include getting intimate with Heather.
As the Summer progresses, both Heather and Noah venture into a deep friendship where they tell each other their most intimate thoughts. While they help each other in their own ways, Noah still is holding on to a secret he is doubting he should share with Heather. It is because of the love he has begone to have for her that he resolves to come clean. Will she hate him in the end?
This is a book for all of us romance addicts looking for a mature book with all the feels. The progression of Heather and Noah’s courtship is a journey worth taking. After all, it is not the destination that is important. The journey is what makes reaching the destination worthwhile.
I am voluntarily reviewing this book. Thanks to the author for sharing a copy with me.
When August Ends is a slow burn like no other. Noah and Heather’s relationship slowly simmered until the damn burst. Even though they gave into the temptation one night, they still found reasons why they couldn’t be together. I wanted to shake them. They were totally meant to be together and anyone reading this could see it. It was painfully obvious! I think what worked for them is the fact that they were friends first and spent time having deep conversations. Heather was truly someone special. She was so selfless and had a heart of gold. I feel like they were put in each other’s path for a reason. Noah was so hard on himself and it was pretty heartbreaking, because it was easy to see he was a good person.
When August Ends is definitely a must read!
Ok this book was just everything. Age gaps are one of my favourite tropes but they’re also sometimes over the top or a little questionable. This one wasn’t at all, it was beautiful and natural and the chemistry was slow burn and so well done. I loved the humour and the omg embarrassing moments throughout the book. It was everything I hoped for and still more. Totally loved it, one of my 6 star reads for 2019 for sure!
I loved this book! It has been a while since I’ve read an age gap romance, and this one worked perfectly.
When Noah comes to rent a cabin on Heather and her mother’s property, it’s a case of instant lust on Heather’s part. But not so fast, this definitely isn’t an insta-love situation. In fact, I would put this on my slow burn shelf because it took time to develop. This is why this book worked so well. Noah was the PERFECT man. I could smell his woodsy, cigar scent come off the pages due to the excellent writing. I loved Heather’s honesty with Noah about anything and everything and she was more mature than he was in some ways, even though she was quite a bit younger.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book and these characters. The romance is as great and the story was really good too!
*4,5-5 stars*
There are a few reasons why Penelope Ward has become one of my favorite authors and she’ll always be a one-click author for me. At this point I’d read anything she writes 🙂 One of the biggest reasons is that no matter what she writes and the way it’s written, you always feel every emotion of the stories she comes up with. I can’t wait to read the next book!
Heather has been looking after her mother for the last few years and after the devastating death of her sister, things haven’t really been the same as she’s also taking care off the business at the lake. They’re renting out the boathouse for the next few months but the moment she finally meets the new tenant, it’ll be an encounter she won’t ever forget. In the next few days they meet again, there’s this strong attraction between her and Noah but even though he feels something, he’ll never act on it as he feels the age difference is too big. But Heather is quite persistent and even though she already knows nothing will ever happen between them, they are starting to form a strong friendship. And although both are trying to deny their growing feelings, Noah is also hiding a secret that he won’t be able to hide for much longer. Will he finally give in to what’s he’s feeling or will his secret come between them even more?…
This book had slow moments at times but sure packed a bang at the end! Usually I gush about the whole book, but this ending is what has been stuck in my head since finishing it. It was sweet and completely perfect for these two! Kinda jealous actually. Lol!!
Heather is sweet and likable with her adorable personality. She has a lot she’s been dealing with and really handles everything with grace and a smile on her face.
Noah. Oh Noah, he can come work on my house any day of the week! *wink*. He’s moody and broody and sexy and so handy to have around. I even love his like quips about Heathers taste in 90s music. Lol!
All in all, it was a decent read with a perfect ending.
This book me laugh out loud so hard at some of the antics! It was awkward and embarrassing at times but also sweet and emotional as hell! It was slow burning but very interesting to read! Loved it!
Noah Cavallari a hot photographer that is escaping for the summer, Heather a 20 year old girl that takes care of her sick mother while working and renting a boathouse. Noah happens to rent it, none of them was prepared for the other. A slow burn that will keep you on your seat, the humor, the characters, all of them, a heart break roller coaster where you will discover that sometimes life throws you a curve ball even though you already see it coming. A beautiful 5 star read.
YAY it’s live early! This low-burn, friends to lovers romance is set on a lake!
My new favorite by Penelope Ward!!! I absolutely and unequivocally love Noah!!! Heather is a breath of fresh air! Noah and Heather‘s chemistry is OFF THE CHARTS SCORCHING! A slow burn and when it’s finally ignites… KABOOM! Their story is unique and one you can’t put down. A must read!!
NO SPOILERS!
Penelope Ward blew it out of the water with When August Ends! This book, THIS BOOK, was EVERYTHING! Just when I thought Penelope couldn’t top her previous books, she went and wrote When August Ends. The storyline and characters were absolutely PHENOMENAL, and I fell head over heels in love with them. When August Ends has been Penelope Ward’s BEST novel to date, and my FAVORITE book from her so far!
The storyline was fantastic, and that word doesn’t even do it enough justice. I honestly don’t know how she did it, but Penelope Ward wove a tale so beautiful, so refreshing, so inspiring, that I was truly left in awe. I’ve always been blown away by her talent, but she truly exceeded all of my expectations with When August Ends. The plot was incredibly unique, as all of Ward’s novels are, and I was smitten from beginning to end. Noah and Heather’s story was sweet, sexy, funny, emotional, utterly swoon-worthy, and truly unforgettable and unputdownable. It was everything you could possibly want in a romance and so much more!
The characters were EXTRAORDINARY, and I completely fell head over heels in love with them. Noah and Heather have been two of my favorite characters that Penelope Ward has written so far, and they completely stole my heart. I felt an immediate connection with them, and was engrossed in their story from page one. I loved Noah and Heather’s personalities, sizzling chemistry together, and how their relationship progressed throughout. I loved reading the book from Noah and Heather’s point of view, and all of their banter and interactions with each other. Despite the age difference between them (which was totally not an issue), Noah and Heather had a strong, deep, and meaningful bond that was envy-worthy. Noah and Heather’s journey was truly unforgettable and unputdownable, and although they had trials and tribulations, I was absolutely ecstatic with the conclusion and couldn’t have been happier for them.
When August Ends was a sweet, sexy, swoon-worthy, and emotional standalone contemporary romance that will make you think and feel so much, and has hands down been Penelope Ward’s BEST novel to date! Ms. Ward blew me away with Noah and Heather’s absolute MUST READ love story, and I would HIGHLY recommend it!
Penelope’s book always always suck me in and keep me there. I wasn’t even aware that it was 2am! I really love heather. She has a lot on her plate and she was still happy and didn’t complain about it, she just did it. Age gap books really aren’t my favorite, but I really liked this one. They were two stubborn souls. They wasted a lot of time when they could have been together making memories. I really love the fact that they tried to fight their attraction. I love the build up and the “gosh finally they kiss” overall I really enjoyed the book!
Congrats for MrsWard, When August Ends is such an amazing book !
This story is so adorable from the begining till the last page… and obviously like every other book from this author – characters made me crying hard, even if they also was funny a lot of times.
When August Ends capitaved me heart. Story line, everything what happen in the background is great journey for readers every kind. What can I say more ???? Oh YES!!!!! When August End has been created by the very best Penelope Ward’s writting style !
Heather is young woman, who had rough life, but she so amazing!!! She doesn’t give up. Heather is BRAVE, caring daughter and the best friend that every human being could have. Things that made her suffer broken my heart… Noah is much older that her, but that makes their story more delicious !!! He’s handsome and successful, with not that simple past.
I liked to watch how their friendship became something much, much more. They have amazing chemistry from the begining, so when everything errupted You can only imagine how hot they were for each other.
When August End Should could be recomend for readers every kind ! Why? Because THIS STORY IS SIMPLY BEAUTIFUL!
I loved this slow burn! When August Ends is a must read!
3.5 Stars.
This is a new standalone novel from a great author, Penelope Ward. We have a young woman who is looking after her ailing mother through depression and maintaining their family home. They have a lake house with a smaller boathouse that has a water backyard. I so wanted to go and visit this place as it sounds amazing.
While Arden is looking after both residences, she happens to stammer her way through meeting the new renter of the boathouse, Noah, who is a few years older than she is. Age isn’t a problem for me, it is all relative with personalities and experiences. Noah has had plenty and he is a little bit gruff on their first and second encounters but he then warms up and I totally adored him. Arden is young in some areas but she know what she wants and set about trying to seduce Noah. He is adamant that they should just be friends and hang out for the summer. Best laid plans always can change.
Some things didn’t gel for me, and I can’t really say why without giving away a little twist in the storyline. And a few other elements didn’t seem to flow on very well either and making it feel somewhat unauthentic. On the whole though, it is a good book and you will love this hero and how he protects Arden in all ways.
