Once I started this book I was hooked. This book really is dark but I enjoyed it nonetheless. Art and Sin are some of my favorite characters so far. Can not wait for the next book.
I found author Lorrain Allen quite by accident as I was searching for new books to add to my “to read” list. The first work I read from Ms. Allen, I Like The Way You Hurt, took me on an emotional journey. That emotional roller coaster has continued with her newest release When Art Rises: Living in Cin. There’s so much going on in this book that I really felt like I needed some medication to stabilize my mood…and I don’t even take medication for mood stabilizing. The main characters, Art and Cin, made me feel something for them because they are both young adults doing their best to deal with very real adult circumstances. Well, Art is a tragic figure who suffered a tragic life-changing event, but I don’t know whether to feel sorry for Art or be angry with him for his self-destructive ways. I know he is hurting, but he is also hell bent on tearing apart his own life with zero regard for anyone who dares to care about him or what happens to him. His mind takes him to some very dark places, which is heartbreaking for the reader to experience with him. Cin is a level headed young woman with a loving, supportive family, a life plan and a bright future. That is until she meets Art. Even though Cin can clearly see the hot mess that is Art, she just can’t stay away from him. Cin’s life, to this point, has been safe, but Art is determined to change that. The sparks between these two burn hotter than any fire I’ve ever seen. Will Art, bent on self-destruction, take Cin down with him? Will their lives implode in spectacular fashion? I need Lorrain Allen to hurry up with the second book to put me out of my misery. I need to know how this story unfolds worse than I need air to breathe right now. This story is that good!
Boy!! I have truly enjoyed my first ever roller coaster ride! Art and Cin story was explosive very beginning to the end. Their relationship was both sweet and heartbreaking. The pain and hurt that Art endured was devastating. Cin was what Art needed to feel normal again. Their loved and trust was not easy to achieve. I can’t wait to read the conclusion and finally get off this roller coaster!!!
This book was dark and twisty with a side of sex and heartbreak!!
This book was very intense for me. Art is a young kid who has been through alot and it has changed who he is. You want to root for him but he makes it very hard. Enter Cin. They are drawn to each other even though their relationship is not what one would call
healthy. I will definitely say pay attention to the trigger warnings because this type of read is not for everyone. I received this book as an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
