WARNING: This book is heartbreaking, dark, dirty, and is only for true dark romance lovers. Arthur is not the hero–he’s the anti-hero. While the setting of this story is in a high school environment, its recommended reading age is eighteen+ due to mature content, explicit sexual scenes, and graphic language. You may need to take a shower afterwards. If you expect a redeemable anti-hero this book is not for you. Please take my warning seriously before reading this book. IT’S NOT FOR SENSITIVE READERS. When tragedy strikes it is bound to shape and mold who you are for your present and your future. Such happens to Art and that sends him down a dark tunnel with no light in sight…until he sees Cin, and it makes you think there just might be some hope for him yet. This book was filled with twist and turns from the very first page, and they did not stop even at the end. It will keep you on the edge of your seats waiting and wanting to know what with happens in this very twisted and dark love story
I received this book as a ARC and i’m sharing my honest review..
This is the second book I’ve read from Ms. Allen and her Dark Romance HS series. This one is by far my favorite. “I Like the Way You Hurt” (CHECK IT OUT IF YOU HAVEN’T) is dark in a twisted way but this book is dark in a painful way. Art and Cin…. ughhhh ;-; I wont spoil the book but YOU MUST READ it so you can go on their journey. This book really depicts the sayings “hurt people hurt people,” “you hurt me so good,” “i want what i shouldn’t,” and “the tongue is our wickedest weapon.” I completed this book in one sitting and my mouth would not close when I was done. Dang, this was so deliciously dark, wooo chile.
Art and Cin stressed me the hell out! These two in this book are over the top toxic! I love me some dark I/R Y/A books and this definitely hit the mark! I’m kind of speechless on this because so many things happened that left my jaw hanging open and I do mean literally hanging open. There was a lot of wtf and oh hell to the no coming out my mouth. I will say this is very different from her other dark book. You will feel bad for most of the characters in this I sure did. Poor Trevor! The only one I don’t feel sorry for is Cin. You will feel like you’re on a rollercoaster that you can never get off of with that girl lol. I’m wondering how they will survive in the next book, like seriously got me so anxious for the next book. I need it like now with the way this ended on a all hell broke loose cliffhanger! My goodness why you do that to us, Ms. Allen, why? All in all very good read! I can’t wait to read more!
Happy Reading Friends!
When Chaos Meets Heaven
One of the of more captivating books I’ve encountered. There was tragedy, heartache, tenderness, ferocity, pain, pleasure, passion, and undeniable attraction. This story follows a bad boy alpha male, Art, meeting an unassuming yet charming girl, Cin, who is drawn to him, compelled to healing his inner turmoil. Only problem? She has a boyfriend, Trevor. This tale unfolds in an intensity of encounters, escapades, and some misadventure experienced by the two main characters, the boyfriend, and a divergent match of side characters culminating into an explosive part 1.
The storyline was amazing, intriguing, savory. I read leisurely not wanting the tale to end, yet unable to put the book away. I could feel Art’s pain and rage, Cin’s empathy, and Trevor’s trust blended in one complex, drama and suspense-filled tale. The story was unique, the characters while in some ways traditional, were unconventional. Art was the rich bad boy with a depth of range in feeling — anger, passion, pain, or apathy. Was he merely troubled or untenable? Cin was a good girl who while unassuming in her physical appearance, even her attire, was largely irresistible; and while empathetic, sweet even, she was no naive wallflower. Trever, loving, warm and seemingly trusting, was not above displaying alpha tendencies and brawling with the rest. He was a great foil to Art’s personality. The friends and family added to the dynamic of the relationships in the story from the sheriff to the best friends to the cousins, and immediate family.
The book was dark, psychologically dark, and there were topics some might find disturbing, even a little taboo. There was destruction but also healing. These contributed to the wealth and creativity of the storyline, the dynamics of the story — often an uncertainty about what is about to transpire, yet a curiosity to see it to the end, unable and unwilling to change course. The storyline weaved a compelling and emotionally-charged tale that left me a little breathless, disquieted, and pleasantly shocked. Part 2 can’t arrived fast enough.
This book is a great read it had my attention from beginning to end. Art definitely pulled on my heartstrings and the sex scenes were hot and steamy. I can’t wait for part 2
I couldn’t put this down and read it in one sitting. Art and Cin have explosive passion which stirs Art back to life after the tragedy which broke his heart. His pain and anger made me feel for him so much and I fully excused his bad behaviour, lashing out, and self destructive actions. Every single word was believable and touched me deeply, it was dark, hot, hurtful, painful and honest. This is the stuff that happens when you don’t care about the consequences any more.
100% amazing Lorrain. Congrats xoxo
Oh.My.GodI’ve never read a book that’s so dark and good at the same time. These high school kids takes the love triangle to a whole new level, I’m shock, I’m speechless, I’m basically sitting there just wondering what the heck happened. This is a very dark read, but it’s also deliciously wicked and dark, it’s not for the faint of hearts. If you can’t get into this book that’s very dark than I suggest you stay away from it. But personally for me I loved the book, and since this author is new to me she definitely have me intrigued and looking forward to more of her books.
A dark romance that takes Cin and Art on an emotional roller coaster ride. Can’t wait to read more!!
No spoilers in this review. This book is a roller-coaster, to say the least. I read it all in one sitting as I couldn’t wait to see what happens next with the main characters. Art is not a hero but he is compelling on levels. Cin is also a complicated but interesting character. The two of them together is just combustible. What is fascinating to me about this book is the characters can make bad choices or be frustrating at times but you always understand what makes them do what they do even if you don’t agree with them. I am eagerly anticipating the second book in this duo to see where everything settles. “When Art Rises” is an incredibly engrossing dark romance.
Wow!
This book is so unlike anything I’ve read before.
It is dark, twisted, and violent. Yet I could not stop reading. This book is not for those easily triggered. The relationships in this book are severely dark and toxic. Even so, I couldn’t help but love the characters in the book.
Definitely a wild ride, and I am extremely excited to read the next book!
Wow I LOVED This Book!! Dark romance is my jam and this fed my greedy dark soul! I also have a weakness for toxic relationships, which Art & Cin are deliciously toxic. They are every bit wrong as they are right for each other. They are maddening and physical with each other, but Cin is the first dose of love and human connection he’s ever had. While Art is Cins dose of passion and Heat, mixed with intense love. I craved every moment between them and this is definitely a series I won’t want to end. I could not get enough and devoured it in 4 hours. Now I have to figure out how I’m going to survive through this cliffhanger.
Death can render you useless, in some instances it makes you lash out and want to hurt not only yourself but others as well. He was reckless without any regard to those around him, until he met Cin! No matter the pain and agony he had in his heart the one person he attached himself too and was becoming his saving grace, he thinks has now betrayed him. He’s once again spiraling out of control, but was he ever in control.
You will not be disappointed, excellent read!

STORY:
Whelp…. this is my second book by the author and the second book I walked away from needing therapy. This book is f$&$ up, and it’s just like I want it. The original bad boy you normally read about, Art isn’t it. He is the anti-hero that isn’t prefect, and I love that for this particular story. I like the way the author is bringing Art to life for me in the early few chapters. It’s a dark beginning that gets twisted as the story continues, and that gets me a little excited on what’s to come with the first few chapters.
Art is devastated by what happens to his brother. This causes him not to care about anything.
“I’m not afraid to die. I’m afraid to live”.
This gives you the state of where is mind is at the beginning of the book. Cin is a hot mess. I feel guilty, but it was intriguing watching her world caved in. Prefect boyfriend, prefect life, prefect grades and prefect athlete.
Their story and relationship was so toxiccccccccccc and unorthodox. Basically, they are screwed up. Cin has a boyfriend that she cheated on the whole book and I sometimes don’t care for that, but it made my energy and anxiety reach 1000% waiting for the ball to drop. They are addicted to each other and that’s a part of the allure and excitement because you can feel their intensity that they give off.
CHEMISTRY:
NASTY, NAUGHTY & NEEDY.
I won’t say much, as those are the 3 words to describe their sexual chemistry in this book, and it’s in a good way for me, can’t speak for everyone else as I know there might be a scene that will offend some.
SECONDARY CHARACTERS:
There were a lot of good characters. I don’t feel like they will have their own story but they definitely kept the book revolving.
Bri and Lilah – Massive eye roll. One word, THIRSTY.
Josh – Not the greatest cousin or friend in my opinion.
Trevor – danggggggggggggg I feel bad.
OVERALL, I enjoy this dark high school story. This one was definitely intense and didn’t come with the polished looking bad boy, and it’s what I need sometimes.
TRIGGERS: suicide attempt, cutting, rough sex, cheating, fighting, drug addiction etc..
****I don’t equate these stories to real life. It’s about personal taste and what you would or want to tolerate with the books you read. I know we all have different opinions and preferences with what we read. I based my book reviews on my preferences and what I like, and while these preferences may not be the same for others, I hope this review was still helpful.
Your the one SELFISH,!! Bitch

Your the one SELFISH,!! Bitch
Your never would be jk Rowling!!!!!
Not value I will never buy from anyone you
AMAZING. THIS WAS MY FIRST HIGH SCHOOL BULLY AND I’VE NOT MET ONE LIKE HIM SINCE.
How is it possible that I hate everyone but Art?
He’s not your average anti-hero. Hell I don’t even see him as the anti-hero at all.
He’s a hell of a lot of things but he definitely deserves to be. Even though we get Cin’s POV, this is all about Art. It’s his story of how broken boys become broken men.
Cin is in way over her head and she doesn’t even care. I can’t wait to see her once she realizes just how far Art will go to keep her. Everyone has their breaking point….Eventually they’re just not willing to share their toys anymore.
In this story the author creates a world that enraptures the reader. Full of lust, love, heartbreak and redemption the story will captivate any reader. The story is dark, it is difficult at times, but the brillant and slightly broken characters make the story worth it. I cannot wait for book two. I need (desperately) to see these characters trough to their HEA; even if at times I’m not sure they can have one, LOL. I forgot while reading this was a high school read as the situations and attitude felt more adult then other high school stories. *There are triggers in this story so please beware; this is a dark read.*
I first read a Lorrain Allen’s book last year, I like The Way You Hurt: A Dark Interracial High School Bully Romance. I quickly became a fan and started to follow her for updates about new reads. When I was given the opportunity to review her latest dark interracial high school romance, I jumped at the chance to become a member of her review group.
The newest addition to her collection is When Art Rises: Living in Cin (A Twisted Interracial High School Love Triangle). Now I a huge fan of interracial love especially featuring Black women. But then there is a twist. It is also a dark romance novel. For those who may have triggers or uncomfortable with hard core sex and love, then don’t read. For others like myself who love romance and especially a dark romance with a BW, this will be your jam. Art is such a bad boy and is so hurt. And you know what the saying is “hurt people hurt people”. Throw in his age and the turmoil that he has experienced makes for a “bad boy”. Cin is almost perfect. She is studious, athletic, and has beauty with a good heart; yet, she begins a love triangle with Art and her boyfriend Trevor.
Art and Cin are both young and so much in lust and love with each other. Art is all consuming and wants Cin no matter who, what, or when. The angst of teenage love is well written. The passion between the two is all consuming. Lorrain Allen continues to improve and add to her dark romance collection. Cannot wait to see how this love triangle ends. Please Lorrain Allen and finish part 2. You will not be disappointed.
This has to be my favorite book by Lorrain to date. The story of Art and Cin is captivating and thrilling. There is a lot of angst that is built up and it makes you fly through the pages. Art is a broken man who in his mind has nothing to really live for. Cin is the girl who has it all but when she meets Art she starts to question if she is really happy as she thinks. The chemistry between the two of is intense from the moment they meet. Its not your typical ” i feel in love with you from the moment i saw you” kind of love they have. There are very dark moments in this book but they are there for a reason to understand the characters and why the are the way they are. I highly recommend reading this book if you are in for a dark read that will leave you craving more. I couldnt read it fast enough and when it was over it left me begging for more.
* I received a ARC but the thoughts are all my own
Comment
My first thought when I finished this book was “OMG! What did I just read.” My second thought was “Are you kidding me? How could you end the book like that?”
I just recently discovered author Lorrain Allen and was selected to read this book just as it was published. When I saw the byline of “A twisted Interracial High School Love Triangle,” I though to myself “oh crap, what did I get my self into?” I was a little nervous getting started, but Lorrain Allen’s writing sucked me right in and never let me go during this book!!! Lorrain Allen’s writing is wonderfully descriptive in all the right ways and in all the “cinful” ways. Each page you turn leaves you thinking “did I really just read that” or “come on! tell me what happens next.”
This book gave me all the feels…heartbreak, loss, grief, pain, excitement, passion, nervousness…you name it, it was felt!! This book allows one to be swallowed up by the characters and the story. You feel what they feel. You get angry with the choices they make. You cheer them on. You swear at them and ask “why did you do that?!?” But most of all you end up loving each of the characters for what they bring to the story – good or bad.
This is a book that provided so many twists and turns in the story, I was surprised I did not get whiplash (in a good way)! Just when I thought the story had reached its climax and it was going to start winding down, the story switched directions and surprised me with what happened next! And let me tell you – THIS HAPPENED MULTIPLE TIMES! I was so frustrated and so intrigued all at the same time that I just had to keep reading.
I am so glad that I discovered Lorraine Allen and I will definitely be picking up more of her books. And let me tell you, the second book in this series cannot be published soon enough!!!
