Jonas Parker, the Earl of Harrington has no desire to marry. He rather enjoys being unencumbered and a wife would complicate things. The Wicked Earls’ Club is his haven and he isn’t ready to give it up for matrimony. His controlling grandfather, the Duke of Southington wants nothing more than to see him wed and return to the fold. Lady Marian Lindsay, daughter of the Earl of Coventry, rather likes being a spinster and embraces her bluestocking ways. She’s studying to be a physician and wants to be a proper doctor. She longs to be taken seriously in the medical field, but her efforts go unnoticed. Before he realizes it, Jonas & his two closest friends are escorting Marian & her two friends to Kent and a house party at the estate of the Duke & Duchess of Weston
This is the final book in the Wicked Earl’s club & I felt it concluded the series very well but also left the door wide open for a further series with new Earls being introduced & a new leader for the club. I’ve loved the whole series & the way the authors have worked together on the project. This book was also very good, the characters well fleshed, the story flowed so well & I finished it in one sitting. I also liked that I again met Alys & Helena, I love it when an author features characters from their other books or series. The only down side is that I’ll miss my weekly fix of Wicked Earls
Jonas, the Earl of Harrington, has a very controlling grandfather. This is one of the focal points of the story. The Duke of Southington (the grandfather) has taken over full control of Jonas’ life and he wants nothing to do with the family name or estate, or to even marry to carry along the family name.
The second focal point was Lady Marian Lindsay and her life’s dream to become a doctor. This is mentioned SO many times throughout the story line I was starting to cringe EVERY time I read those words. She needs to become a member of The Royal Society (which is run by men) to fulfil that dream; however, she has been turned down as a doctor is not something a woman should aspire to.
Let the story begin!
While I did enjoy reading this story, there were parts that just felt…. Questionable. There are a few places in the book where I think Ms. Brower forget that the setting is in the 1800’s. Words and phrases are more like what we say in todays world, not back in a regency era. Why was the grandfather so controlling? What role did Lady Weston really play in this story? – it just fell flat.
I liked the characters but was hoping for a little more “wicked” hidden between the pages. It was a slow burn between Jonas & Marian, which I was totally okay with. I enjoyed the banter between these two “I never want to marry” people. There is a HEA and no cliffy, but was disappointed that the story ended at 80% (according to my Kindle). I really would have liked to have their story continue a bit longer than have that last 20% filled with “promo” material.
After his father dies Jonas is at the mercy of his evil grandfather, the Duke of Southington. Once he is an adult he manages to semi escape his clutches but is determined that he will never marry as a wife and family will make him too vulnerable. However the feisty bluestocking Lady Marian, daughter of his mentor, has suddenly become constantly on his mind and he can think of nothing but kissing her. Great story.
I just fell in love with Jonas. In the begining he waa just this little boy who had so much thrown at him I wanted to hug him. He grew into so much more through the story. I smiled while reading this one. Two people who had no intention of doing the norm in life, find out life had other plans for them. What an adventure.
A historical romance that is true to the time period. I like that the author has made research. But there are some mistakes and the biggest is with inheriting titles. But apart from that it is well written with nice story line and plot. A story about finding other ways to go than the one they thought.
It is the 12th and last in this series but I would think a new one has to be planned. I would have liked that the previous characters have had their status with them in the books after their marriages. It was confusing at times that a character from a previous story suddenly was single. They should have been hold to their timeline that way it would have been less confusing and annoying.
Recommendable to others.
The book has a good storyline that is pleasant, and captivating. The characters are intriguing, engaging, and well developed.

I thoroughly enjoyed this Regency romance with great characters, romance and intrigue. Boy, his grandfather was terrible and did a number on him when his father died and his mother left him. He never wanted to inherit from his grandfather and would never marry due to him. Finally, he met the woman he wanted so badly, but he was afraid to marry her. After his grandfather’s death, they finally got their HEA. I look forward to reading the second book in this series.
3 1/2 stars
The Earl of Harrington is part of the Wicked Earls’ Club series, and while there are some characters who pop up along the series in each of the books, they can be read as standalone novels.
This installment of the regency tales is an enjoyable, light-hearted, yet predictable romp. Marian (our story’s heroine) wants nothing more in life than to obtain her goal of becoming a physician; however, during this historical time period, those occupations are very difficult to come by for women. She learns of a rare female doctor attending a house party, and as she is eager to learn as much as she can from this anomaly, Marian must attend this party. She has no interest in husband-hunting as most unattached young ladies enjoy as a sport at these events, yet she finds herself enjoying some witty banter with a man and unexpectedly becomes attracted to him.
Jonas, our hero in the tale, is your typical confirmed bachelor rake, but his reasons for refusing to marry are more for spite than for extending his bachelorhood as long as possible. His grandfather, who has been cruel to Jonas his entire life, demands that Jonas find a wife and go about securing the line of the earldom by procuring an heir. As he does not wish to do his sire’s father any favors, Jonas has refused to comply with this request. Yet… he has unexpectedly met a young lady who has sparked his interest: Marian.
The play between the two main characters is engaging and endearing, and the story is a light, easy read. As I mentioned earlier, it was a little too prescribed in that I knew how things would play out the whole time, but it was still a worthwhile endeavor. If you are in the mood for a cushy read on a rainy day, this is the right choice for you.
Earl of Harrington book 1 Bluestockings Defying Rogues by Dawn Brower. An awesome book. Extremely entertaining, captivating and interesting read. I could not put it down. Wonderfully written with strong, intriguing characters. My free opinion. Thanks.

Marian and Jonas have been at odds for years. She wants to study to be a lady physician and he sees it as just a silly unladylike hobby. He is attracted to her but because of his evil grandfather he won’t marry anyone to secure the succession and he won’t offer her anything less than that after her father saved him and made him a member of the Wicked Earl’s Club. Marian and her friends discover that the reclusive Duchess of Weston is secretly a female physician and her husband is holding a house party. Marian is determine to go there and meet her and ask her to mentor her. Her father convinces Jonas and his friends to escort her there. Marian learns more about Jonas and falls for him. When she meets the Duchess and finds her secret journal she discovered that love is more important than ambition. Add to that a crazy Duke who will even attempt murder to control his grandson Jonas and there’s plenty of suspense, humor, and romance in this story.
This book was such a joy to read with a storyline that was well written and characters that were so well rounded that I couldn’t put this book down until I finished reading the very last page! I look forward to reading more from this author!

If you have read any of the books in the wicked Earl’s Club then that part of the story will not be a surprise, because this is also the first book of the Bluestockings Defying Rogues series by Dawn Brower. There is on a truly evil person in this story and what happens at the end of the book really is justice. Jonas life took a wrong path when his father died and his grandfather becomes his guardian. He not only lost his father but also his mother that day. When he becomes older Marian comes into his life and the interaction between them was entertaining to read. I loved Alys. This is a really well-written book Ms. Brower is such a gifted writer and is in the top 10 of my favorite historical romance writer. This is a great book for both series. I did receive a free copy of this book and voluntarily chose to review it.
