From New York Times bestselling author Lauren Royal comes the first novel in her beloved series featuring the “outrageously funny, loyal, compassionate, and unconventional” Chase family.Descended from generations of jewelers, the only thing Amethyst Goldsmith loves more than her craft is her family. And the only thing she hates is that her wedding is mere days away. Amy is promised to her … promised to her father’s small-minded apprentice, the last man on earth she could ever love, honor, or especially obey. But the date is set, the dress is ordered, and there’s no way out—until the devastating Great Fire of 1666 sweeps through London, shattering her world and changing her fate…
Colin Chase, the Earl of Greystone, doesn’t believe in fate. He believes in hard work and securing his family’s future, which means marrying the wealthy, high-born Lady Priscilla Snobs—er, Hobbs. When he rescues a lowly shopkeeper’s daughter from the inferno, he’s only taking pity on a broken young woman. But as the pieces begin to mend, Amy emerges. Beautiful, passionate, playful Amy, who maddeningly worms her way into his family’s hearts. And Colin fears that if he lets his guard down for even a moment, he might find his own heart invaded as well…
Secluded in empty, crumbling Greystone Castle, an earl and a common girl can’t help surrendering to desire. But when the dream is over and reality catches up with them, can they find a way to make their two worlds one?

Loved it.
I really enjoyed this book and looked for the next ones in the series!
A story from the lady’s view in the mid 1600’s. She is a jewelry maker, as the only living child of her Artisan father.
Lauren Royal is Number 1 on my favorite authors list. I’ve read the Chase Series (all 7 novels) twice. Can Wait till she comes out with another Chase Family Novel.
Loved this one. Nice to see a heroine who’s a skilled craftswoman. The close family bond in the hero’s family is also lovely to see, the pranks they play. Enjoyed it.
Good story
historical romance providing lots of detail and a number of “steamy scenes”
This one was hard to put down! Very well written, and the characters were, well, CHARACTERS. Very entertaining.
This was a great historical romance. The characters are so vividly described and their actions kept me interested.
I enjoyed this the more I got into the book. The female character was a commoner/craftsperson rather than from the upper class. I thought that was an interesting twist. It makes me want to read about the family’s other siblings. I thought the family relationship and acceptance of a commoner was great. I would give it a 5star but it did bog down at …
I just finished this book and it is a little difficult to review. I enjoyed the story and characters but then again I found myself speed reading in areas towards the end. I want to give this book four stars because it was good in the beginning and towards the end. The problem is that the author didn’t go with the traditional story structure. She …
