A need to belong drives her. A longing to forget compels him. Fate may send them into each other’s arms, but only love can mend their hearts. An Outlander Raised by a tyrannical father, Marion de Lacy yearns for the comfort of belonging to a loving family. So when her father announces her betrothal to an evil knight in exchange for his help to overthrow the king, she concocts a desperate scheme … desperate scheme to avoid the marriage: feigning her own death and then fleeing England. But when her plan goes terribly awry and she’s captured by the knight, not even her careful preparations could ready her for the Scottish barbarian who rescues her and then informs her that he’s to marry her by edict of her king. Certain her father will defy the king’s orders and wed her to the knight if she refuses the Highlander’s hand, Marion agrees to marry the strangely compelling but obstinate laird of the MacLeod clan.
A Highlander
After the death of his beloved wife, Iain MacLeod has no desire to marry ever again. Yet when he finds himself obliged to do so to secure the freedom of his childhood friend and king, he reluctantly travels across England to collect his unwanted bride, expecting to find a cold Englishwoman. Instead, he discovers a fiery, bold beauty who is fiercely loyal, protective of those she loves, and defies him at every turn, challenging his certainty that his heart is dead.
Ensnared
Following a hasty marriage and perilous journey to Scotland, Marion harbors no illusions that her new husband loves her. Still, her heart cannot resist the noble, brave warrior, and she cannot suppress the hope that she has finally found where she belongs. However, the harder she tries to fit in with the clan and gain Iain’s love, the farther away her dreams drift. Iain is more than willing to give his respect to his courageous wife—her kisses and caresses even ignite his blood and demand his passion—but he refuses to give up his heart. That is, until enemies near and far threaten to take Marion from him. Now the demons that haunt him can only be conquered by surrendering body and soul to Marion, if only it’s not too late…
“WHEN A LAIRD LOVES A LADY by Julie Johnstone is the first book in the Highlander Vows: Entangled Hearts series, and I cannot wait for the second instalment. With beautiful imagery, the author transports the reader to a whole new world. Both Marion and Iain are meaningful and emotional characters, who I became deeply invested in. I could not put this book down. With plenty of danger, excitement and passionate encounters, WHEN A LAIRD LOVES A LADY by Julie Johnstone has got it all, and I now have a new favourite author.” ~ Fresh Fiction

Really enjoyed this book and characters.
Really enjoyed the characters and story line. My only complaint is that the story seemed to end abruptly. They could have provided more details to tie all the story lines together.
Loved it!
Love reading English/Scots romance. Cant imagine sweet, virginal women being so into sex so quickly though! A tad unrealistic! A couple of interesting turns but fairly predictable with kidnappings and threats that are thwarted at the last moment bit cliched!
Knights, Castles, Clans, scheming Kings and a hard headed damsel in distress. This book has it all. From the first page to the last, there is a lot of action, many twists and turns, and even some romance. I could not put this book down. The characters are well developed and endearing. You quickly get caught up in their lives and cheer for the good guys. I read about 3 books a week and this is easily one of the best books I’ve read in quite a while. I found myself staying up way too late at night because I simply couldn’t put the book down. This book is heavy on action with enough steamy romance to appeal to a broad spectrum of readers. An absolutely fantastic read and I have already recommended it to several friends.
Interesting for the historical period as well as the romance. Great read and fast.
Loved this book.Wonderful characters.Great love story. Will definitely read more of her books.
I love this book. I was very entertained while reading.
I had just visited the Isle of Skye and saw the McLeod clan castle Dunvegan, so was an interesting from that standpoint. However, it was very predictable.
Could not put down!
This was a fast read that had me wanting to read more from this writer.
This one was pretty good. It had a nice twist at the end that I wasn’t expecting! Marion’s ability to win allies was challenged by the sheer number of people trying to use or hurt her for their own advantage. It was an enjoyable little romance, and I would like to see how this family drama continues to unravel!
I really enjoyed this book I love mid-evil, highlander, Historical books and this was one of the best.
Really an enjoyable book, I love the historical content as well. Would love to read the sequence.
Loved this book!
I enjoyed the pace of the book.
Definitely predictable.
Iain and Marion’s story is a wonderful start to a new series. when Marion is held at arms length because of Iain’s first wife and love. Her winning and loving ways melt his heart. A++
Loved this book. Marion De Lacy has only wanted to be loved. Her mother has died and the stable master Angus MacLeod has been more of a father to her than her own abusive father. Angus has taught her how to survive, and knows if her father’s plan to marry the dishonorable Knight William Froste succeeds she will not survive. They devise a plan to fake her death and have her escape to the Clan MacLeod, Angus is sure she will be received well. So far the plan succeeds until King Edward (who has the Scottish King in prison) wants Laird Iain MacLeod to marry Marion. Iain agrees thinking it will free his King. King Edward knows there are plans to over throne him, between Baron De Lacy and Froste. The two combined would be dangerous. Marion now on the run, runs into none other than Froste who tries to take her. Who arrives just in time Iain of course and he saves her. They travel to her home and more trouble ensues. They get married quickly and head home. Hot on their tails are Froste’s men. Can the two make it home and get on with their lives?? There is so much treachery that just when you think you have the plot figured out BAM it changes and more heartache and villains appear. Love that about Julie’s writing. Once you have picked the book up you can not put it down!!!
I enjoyed this book and the whole series.
