I never thought I’d catch serious feelings for someone at seventeen—isn’t life complicated enough at this age?—let alone for my polar opposite. I’m the quiet, reserved bookworm. He’s the popular, confident jock at the center of every party. He’s also kind, charming, and sweet. The determined wide receiver worms his way past my defenses. I see a side of him no one else does, and he makes me feel … does,
and he makes me feel things I’ve only ever read about.
He isn’t my perfect match, but at some point,
I can’t ignore what my heart is trying to say.
So, what happens when a heart trips?
Well, at some point, the fall is unavoidable,
and I’m falling headfirst into something I didn’t want in the first place.
I asked for a crush, not for this.

I don’t even know how to write this review.
First thing first.
I maybe don’t follow Dominique Laura from her very first start, but when I’ve read the blurb on her first book I was like, Gosh this book has to be good. And when I’ve read it it was like, you know those times when you hear a quote or a song at the right time in your life, well that’s how it was when I’ve read all Dominique’s books. I told her so many times that she is a writer of my heart.
We are not best friends, not even friends so that I will write all those words. She simply is an amazing writer and since following her and reading what she shares I know she is a good person and writes what matters.
So, every book of hers, for me, came at the right time, when I needed all those words and that exact story.
The same was with When a Heart Trips. Sweet, uncomplicated, smooth and so freaking amazing. With characters that had all I wanted.
Devon is a nerdy bookaholic and he is a jock with a soft heart who doesn’t have mean intentions.
I simply loved it and read a book in one sitting, well not sitting, but in one night.
Every book by Dominique has a message. I found mine in every book.
Thank you Dominique for such an amazing book. I can’t wait for another one.
After spending most of her life wrapped up in her books, Devon decides that she is ready for a crush. Little did she know that everything she never knew she always wanted, bumps into her when she least expects it. Julian is not what Devon was expecting, but that makes it more fun!! This book was sweet and adorable!!
***Actual rating: 3/5 Soothing Stars***
When a Heart Trips is a typical young adult contemporary romance novel and the story is beautifully written. It all starts when the main female character, Devon, so desperately wants a crush that’ll make her heart melt and swoon and get butterflies in her stomach. As a huge nerd, Devon has always been more enthralled by books and fictional boyfriends so when she suddenly realizes her senior high school is coming to an end without her having any real experiences in the romantic areas, she panics. Now she’s determined to find herself the perfect match, a.k.a. the super duper popular football player. However, never would she expect that she’d fall fast and hard for the BEST FRIEND of her perfect match.
Interestingly, Julian is nothing like Devon. Uhh, he’s quite the OPPOSITE of Devon, to be exact, but I guess that’s sort of the point of this whole story. As most readers and reviewers said, this book is indeed a perfect demonstration of the concept called “opposite attracts.” Despite the fact that the slowly burnt romantic relationship between Devon and Julian is something worth swooning over, there’s no toes-curling, heart-melting, or guts-wrenching plot twist. The entire story simply flows naturally and quite smoothly, in my opinion, and that’s why I find it just meh after reading it.
Please don’t get me wrong, the writing is beautiful and the romantic elements are pure perfection, so technically, this book is definitely worth a read. It’s just that I’d appreciate more if there could be something delicious and unpredictable to anticipate and simply add more spice to the reading experience.
All in all, I’d still recommend When a Heart Trips for anyone who’s looking for a sweet, light-hearted, swoon-worthy romance about first love and silly mistakes. Of course, I hope you’ll like this book more than I do and don’t forget to let me know what you think afterwards.
