Violet Page is having a rough time. This former popular girl is lost. Her parents uproot everything after her younger sister’s suicide, moving states away to escape the lingering pain of loss. She doesn’t fit in anywhere, but finds herself strangely drawn to the boy she watches view the world through a telescope. Finnley Crawford isn’t your typical boy next door. Being autistic has always set him … set him apart from kids his age. None of them quite knows how to approach him or interact, leaving him only one friend in the form of his support dog. His lack of friendships lead him to a unique love of space and aspirations of one day reaching the stars. For in the stars, he sees a peace and beauty he can’t find on Earth.
The more time these two seemingly opposite teenagers spend together, the more they learn it isn’t what’s on the outside that counts. So much can be found on the inside if you only care to look.

This is by far one of the best books I’ve read in a very long time. Poignant, and moving, this book made tears flow more than once. Violet is reeling and lost, her whole family is, or what’s left of it. She’s just lost her younger sister and is uprooted from the only home she’s ever known, moving halfway across the country because of her father’s new job. She’s realized that the things she once thought of as important, aren’t. Starting at her new school as a senior, she’s ready to focus on graduating and getting into college, and nothing else. Enter Finn. He’s not your average guy. Moody, prone to outbursts, hater of loud areas, lover of all things space (think stars, planets, etc.). He’s Violet’s next door neighbor and now the person she sits next to in science class. Slowly they build, going from friendship to more, surprising everyone, including themselves. When something happens that causes Finn to break things off with Violet, she’s understandably heartbroken. She’s still dealing with the loss of her sister, and now she’s lost the only boy she’s ever really loved, and all in the same year.
Ms. Smeltzer has really outdone herself with this story. It’s absolutely heartwrenching, and lovely all at the same time, with a cast of characters that your heart melts for. I couldn’t put it down and stayed up all night to finish. I needed to know if Finn and Violet got back together, and in the end, I found out. I highly suggest this story for anyone who loves a story that moves you. One that breaks you down, only to put you back together again, better than you were.
*I received an ARC of this story and this is my honest and voluntary review.
Guys if you have not pre ordered or one clicked this book you need to! I was given an arc copy to give my honest review and wow just wow. The amount of love and passion put into writing this book you can tell it comes from a place with deep meaning and love. This book is a sweet coming of age book realizing somethings that used to matter don’t matter anymore and that change is hard but sometimes it’s what you need. It’s okay to see someone and befriend them when it doesn’t seem like the cool thing to do. And no matter what everyone deserves love and to be loved. Also you’ll love Mr. Rochester he’s hilarious!
Every now and again you start to read a book and you get chills because you know you are reading something special.
I could tell the author out alot of thought into this story. Violet and Finn have topped the list of my favourite YA couples. A different kind of love story with such a beautiful message behind it. The friendship that develops between them is written so beautifully. The patience and understanding that Violet shows Finn will have you wishing everyone was this way. Finn is such an amazing young man. I felt like I was with him as he navigates all these new experiences. If your a fan of slow build gentle love this book is for you. The way the real life issues are written make them so relatable. A truly beautiful story that I would recommend everyone reads.

A pain so raw and unbearable they had to move away. Her sisters memories were everywhere.
Now they try to settle into a new life, one without the light that glued them all together.
Shes desperately trying to live, breathe, survive and then she sees him.
He sees her, but struggles to accept that she sees the true him. Not what he is, but who he is.
Two teenagers scared and trapped in their thoughts of loneliness.
Can they be anything to each other… could it be possible that the brightest star brought them together…
Ohhh I think I need a moment or three.
This book is amazing! and something special. It touched me in a way that I dont think any other book has.
It’s so emotional and real, raw and honest.
I spent most of my time reading this trying to keep my emotions in check or I would most certainly of flooded the house out!
Beautiful and poignant whilst heartbreaking and astonishing. A real eye opener and I’m so glad I gave my Michaela viginity to it.
This is a book I will not forget! my heart broke yet my soul was full of love and hope for them both.
You need to read this to fully comprehend my words.
I cant praise it enough, I cant give it enough stars but I can do one thing.. I can promise you that it’s worth every second of your time no matter who you are, or where you are.
I’ve read almost all of this author’s books and I always look forward to a new release from her! I received an ARC of this book and started reading it straightway without reading the synopsis! After reading this book, I can say that I loved it a lot! I really connected with the plot and felt like the author did a brilliant job with it! It only took me a few sittings to read as well because I didn’t want to put it down until I had finished it! There was also some romance in the plot between the main character and her love interest and it was very sweet and I loved the way the author developed it! This book was also very emotional and it left me with tears running down my face several times! I wasn’t expecting it to be so emotional, but there were some very sad moments and then some beautiful moments! The characters were also amazing and made this book even better! Violet was the main character, and in this book she and her family were dealing with a loss in their family and they were struggling! Violet tried her best in this book and my heart did go out to her because she felt a lot of guilt! I also loved the way that Violet was with her love interest! She treated him exactly how everyone else should have and this made me have a lot of respect for her! Finn was the love interest of Violet! I loved Finn in this book! He had autism, which did make him a bit different because he found it difficult to understand sarcasm and he liked routine, but he was also such a sweet guy and just wanted to be accepted the way he was! I loved Finn in his book! He was so sweet with Violet and he did grow in confidence as his relationship with her progressed! He also grew as a character too! This book was only written from Violet’s point of view, which did surprise me a little! I was expecting this book to be written from dual point of view, especially as the synopsis (which I read after I read the book lol) does gives this impression, so I was a little disappointed that I didn’t get to go inside Finn’s head! He was such an intriguing character and I would have loved to have gotten to know what he was thinking and how he felt! I did like this reading this book though Violet’s eyes and seeing how she viewed Finn though and I was still able to connect with Finn! I can also completely understand why this book is a standalone! The plot was wrapped up and there weren’t any unanswered questions! I would love to read more on Violet and Finn, but this book was left at the perfect for them and summed up their relationship! I now can’t wait to see what this author is going to release next! I’ll definitely be reading it and can’t wait to find out more about it! The cover for this book is also absolutely stunning! You can see how well it suits the book after you read it and I loved it as soon as I saw it! The images also suits the characters of Violet and Finn too! Big thank you to Micalea for an ARC of What Happens!
“I think your my person Violet.” “ I know your my person Finn.” Oh my god this book gave me all the feels. I couldn’t help but immediately fall in love with Finn. I think part of that was he reminds me a little of my son. The way that Violet just accepted Finns different tick and loved him anyway just made me love her! This was a feel good book with little angst. The love and acceptance these characters had for each other was just heartwarming.
5 out of 5 Stars
Thanks so much Micalea for my ARC!
Whatever Happens was a wonderful book. I loved Whatever Happens. I love Violet and Finn.
This book was amazing. Everything about her writing draws you in and makes you want to read more. This story was so heartfelt and so real, you connect with each character and feel their emotions so strongly. Highly recommend!
