Warning: This novel contains excessive humor, action, excitement, adventure, magic, romance, and bodies. Proceed with caution. Fetching a cat out of a tree should’ve been a quick, easy fifty bucks in Kanika’s pocket. Instead, following one stray thought, the devil pays her a visit and leaves her with a debt to repay. Owing the devil a favor is bad enough, but her life is turned upside down when … life is turned upside down when it’s time to pay the piper. First, she doesn’t want the world’s sexiest firefighting, kitten-rescuing Scot as an unwilling companion. Since that wasn’t bad enough, she doesn’t know who wants him dead or why, but there’s no way in hell she’s going to let someone mar his perfection.
Add in the fact the devil wants an heir, and there’s only one thing she knows for certain: she’s in for one hell of a job.

I adore this book! From the beginning you go on a ride. You have a character who can’t control what she turns into but always gets free clothes out of it. I mean that right there is worth it. Throw in Satin (I mean Satan) and hold on tight!
Long live Satin!!! Best, most unique story I’ve read in the last 6 months. Amazing character. Love the story line. Praying to Bastet and Satin if need be for another book with these characters. I’ve read this 2-3 times this past year. Just love the inanity but loving the storyline!!!
I hate to pick favorites, because I adore this entire series, but if I had to choose, ‘Whatever for Hire’ would most likely be my fave! I’ve read them all, and I can’t wait for Cheetah’s Never Win! RJ has me hooked! 5 stars all the way.
I absolutely love these books! The author writes individual stories. The characters are different in all of them but there is a common thread. References to certain elements are in all the stories. It feels like the same town, city, country but not the same characters. Very entertaining.
I like the variety of supernatural creatures. Kanika is a Sphinx. She takes a kidnapping job, and gets into trouble and funny situations. She kidnaps Malcolm and is attracted to him. She encounters many supernatural creatures, including the Devil. I give this four stars, because there are two questions Kanika should ask buy does not. She does not ask Malcolm what type of a creature he is. She knows he is something, but never asks. The one who hired her told her to do something to Malcolm. She never asked Malcolm about it. I liked the humor, characters and plot.
Whatever for Hire
(Magical Romantic Comedies #4)
by R.J. Blain
This is the first book I’ve read in the series although I have more and will be reading them soon! It is hilarious, witty, a romantic fantasy with lots of creatures of mythology and more!
A world where shifters, the undead, and the unusual is normal. It has the devil in here but not like you have ever heard of before! Totally different and giggle worthy! Even angels are not held to regular norms.
This was hilarious! This was a stand alone unless it continues with another book but it seems complete. I certainly plan to read more in the series! Lighthearted and fun read!
Whatever for Hire: A Magical Romantic Comedy (with a body count) by R.J. Blain was exactly what I needed this week.
I’ve read many of Blain’s other books, but for some reason had never picked up one in the A Magical Romantic Comedy (with a body count) Series. Yes, that’s a whole series. And now…I’m wondering why I hadn’t. Because Whatever for Hire was truly awesome.
There is Magic. There is Romance. There is Comedy. There is a body count. “Fencing. Fighting. Torture. Poison. True love…” Yes, I almost love Whatever for Hire as much as I love Princess Bride. Which is really saying something. You should probably read it. And the rest of the series. Now.
(Note: Blain is very punny. And sarcastic. And I love that.)
Blain is a hoot. I hate the title, but that didn’t stop me from reading the book at one gulp.
Thanks for the enjoyable read as we all deal with social distancing. It was a great escape.
R. J Blain writes very funny books. I have read a number of these ‘magical romantic comedies’ and they are all very good entertainment. Whatever For Hire is no exception. I highly recommend this entire series.
Enjoyed reading.
This book had interesting and funny characters. I loved the snarky humor.
I love a book full of puns. Years ago I read Robert Asprin because of the puns. This author is as full of puns as he was. Love every book by this author that I have read. I love how she comes up with names for characters ie:Satin.
Loved it!
A hodgepodge of stupid caricatures of trolls, witches and other pointless thing that go bump in the night. A waste of time read
I adore this book, as does my husband.
Only the second book I ever intended to read and could not finish. Not for me. Nonsense.
Fun book to read easy to easy to get into. Like the ending
A great distraction from the pandemic.
Loved this book!
