I have thoroughly enjoyed this book from the very first page right to the last one and it is my humble opinion that this series will outdo all the others by this talented author.
This story is full of love, mischief, an adventure and a few mysteries to be solved. The ‘bad’ man also shows his cunning and horrid plans for the future of Sophie, our heroine, but Sebastian is determined to keep her safe. And thank goodness for that!
I particularly loved the way both Sophie and Sebastian admitted to their love for each other. That truly was a heartwarming scene.
Mary Phillips has injected an enthusiastic and merry spark into this story with her professional and capable narration.
I eagerly await the next in this series but until then am quite happy to recommend both this story and the audio version of it as totally captivating, clever and entertaining and hope you enjoy them as much as I have.
I requested and received a free copy of the audiobook and this is my voluntary and unbiased review.
great book! Good read! Plan on reading more of her books.
Interesting situations
I found the characters different than many historical romances. It was a refreshing change. I enjoyed the strong female and a male who can be strong but also willing to give in. I didn’t care for the epilogue but did like the last chapter.
Steamy and romantic, this is written by one of my favorite writers.
A must read book
It kept me interested. I couldn’t put it down.
This is an entertaining novel by Adele Clee and plan on reading the remainder in this series!
I like these strong characters. Their love story is filled with intense encounters, danger, passion, and great supporting characters. I loved the witty conversations and fierce emotions. I definitely recommend this book.
I enjoyed this book.
Not too far into the story the hint is cleverly given that the separation of the two lovers, Tristan and Isabella, 5 years earlier had some help. The reader is left to wonder who was behind their separation and why, until well into the story the H and h speak about the past. Until then, Tristan helps her investigate the strange goings-on in her home and the suspicious deaths of her husband and his brother. She is without family or fortune and has no one else to turn to, but does not expect their love to be rekindled.
All aspects of the story are masterfully woven to keep the reader’s attention throughout. I’ve read many of Adele Clee’s stories and have not been disappointed yet.
Sophie’s brother had disappeared and she must travel to London to try to figure out what is happening. She can take care of herself but Dane, her brother’s friend, doesn’t agree. Their quest to find Sophie’s brother involves a necklace, a French count and the madam of a high-class brothel. During their adventure Sophie both hates Dane and falls in love with him. Dane lusts after Sophie for most of the book and when he finally realizes that he loves her, she has run away. Ultimately there is a HEA.
I have read several books by Adele Clee and I have enjoyed them all but this was probably my least favorite so far. I enjoy heroines that are strong independent women however, Sophie is a bit much. She is too brazen for the time period during most of the book and then she runs away from Dane at the end which is totally out of character. Dane is smart and sexy but I wasn’t drawn to him at all. I enjoyed the plot but the characters were not my favorites.
Sophie Beaufort is a beautiful, independent thinking lady who, as a girl, had a “young crush” on her brother’s friend, Sebastian “Dane” Ashcroft, the 4th Marquess of Danesfield. Now, grown, she hates the way the new Dane has turned out but he is her only hope of finding her missing brother.
Dane has spent the last six years repairing the completer mess he inherited with the title and now, to top it off. his best friend’s annoying little sister has come to ask him for help. The only thing is, he has not seen her for six years and she has turned into a beauty but still a daring, headstrong lady.
Ms. Clee always provides her readers with believable plots, some twist & turns, danger and secondary characters that add to the story. I loved the sizzle and bantering between Sophie and Dane and it kept me quickly clicking to the next page.
This story was very well entertaining and exciting I enjoyed reading it very much.
Fast moving historical romance with a good plot
Did not want to put this down. Lady disguises herself as a young man to find her missing brother; her brother’s best friend chasing after her; an evil count chasing after all of them; and a ruby necklace at the middle of it all- what a nice mix of problems! Good story.
This novel has very little down-time. Ms. Clee has certainly amped up the drama and sizzling romance in the start of this new series. The story gives a look into one of the seedier sides of life and to what extent some women had to go to survive., and the relationship between the two women is pure and strong. Although Dane and Sophie were not exactly enemies, they had to nurture their relationship in order to grow love and respect.
This compelling story ticked off all my favorite plot elements; such as a believable plot, some danger, a twist or two, some angst, interesting sub-characters, passionate chemistry and a HEA.
Nice actions from the Hero – we don’t have to wait for him to realize what makes his love different, is why he loves her. She could use some growing up in spots, but overall this avoids the “classic” getting into trouble by being blind to the obvious – our Heroine can get to the point and take care of herself. I am going to continue in the series as the next story promises to be even better.
It was ok. The plot was unrealistic doe the time period. I am not able to tell you details because it will give away the story.
